@Insideviewanimator That is simply not true. Box modeling is not a limiting method, just another approach to results. The results are determined by the artist not the method used.

@Insideviewanimator Noobie... It is actually called Box modeling. A technique that where the artist works with form and volume, like clay. But use what works best for you. I am a traditional sculptor so it fits my mind set. Have you seen Zbrush?
@biomind12 Useful tidbit. But, I seldom use either. I want control over how many faces are in my model. Using a subsurf modifier gives me more control than just using the W>sub smooth. But to each his own. Have you ever tried to model a sphere from a cube? No modifiers! Try it it is a great exercise.

why dont you create it out of a plane...

very useful but did you know, if u press w and go to subdivide smooth it's just like a subsurf modifier only u see all the vertecies in edit mode?
