Boycott them? Why?? No one is forcing you to go there if you don't want to. If I want to buy a cup of coffee from Costa, I damn well will thank you very much. My money, my choice. Man, universities are so full of jumped up, self-righteous morons these days it's not even funny anymore. Go study or do something constructive for a change instead of just complaining about everything.
Generally lack of choice or information is a running theme at BU, but on the whole I'm glad we have a choice of cheap and good quality coffee, I've always gone to Costa on campus because you get what you pay for. ~£2 is not extortion as any other Costa will charge you more, (although their food prices are a bit silly).
@MrAppleby56 I'm glad you've taught me this valuable information on coffee, my life is now complete. Screw revision, because I now know how to make a costa coffee. Maybe I should hand them my CV?
This is plain dumb. If you guys dont want good coffee, go somewhere else! I am HAPPY we have costa here I think we are lucky to have it. And you arent being ripped off, to get highstreet quality coffee you normally pay about £1 more than you do in the costa's on campus.
While I disagree with the prices of the drinks, you should be going straight to the franchise holders as it's them that set the prices. Keep in mind that there are people who work in these places that can potentially lose their jobs from this sort of thing. The coffee shop seen in the video at the end for example, Helen (who runs it) is a bloody wonderful lady and shouldn't be made to pay for things that are out of her control!
He was saying that AS a student, NOT as someone from the SU. Stop quoting him out of place.
Yes, he was wrong to say that, but HIS views from HIS email account do not represent the rest of the SU. If you actually bothered to go and talk to them, you'd find out they understand entirely why you're upset and will do their best to help you. You're just going about it the wrong way.
I think the running theme in all your comments is that it is the students choice if they want to buy their coffee from Costa which is spot on but shouldnt it be our choice of which suppliers come onto the campus in the first place?
If students were consulted they may find that self service kitchens would be preferred...or just a locally run cafe, help support local business n all that jazz!
not cynical at all, just bored senseless with this coffee saga..
are poorly put together videos on youtube, vague advocation of smashing up windows, and 'this is shit' comments outside a costa (which is really edgy by the way.. good stuff) really the best way to make whatever point is trying to be made(?)
oh, and why is nobody making videos about how disgusting it is that there's a waterstones on campus?! nobody asked me if i wanted to shop at waterstones. i prefer borders. AND amazon is cheaper. it's a disgrace that they offer me the chance to buy books on campus and try to profit from it.
shock horror! a commercial company provides you with goods if you want them and has the audacity to charge you for it while there are actually other options to acquire coffee also available!
surely the uni doesn't have to provide ANY coffee outlet at all? you're lucky you get costa.
give it up altogether. it's bad for you. apparently it makes you prone to anger and irrationality. according to wikipedia anyway.
£1.70 from Costa, but just round the corner, the main catering area sells similar coffee for £1.00, or even 69p for the lower grade stuff (which actually fine).
Guess which counter has the long queues every day? If students are getting ripped off it's because they want to be. If everyone switches to the cheap stuff, then within a few weeks Costa would be gone.

C your point though. It cost around 5-10p to make a coffee :)

The costa coffee from BU doesn't sell actual costa stuff. The sandwiches, coffee and tea seem to just be off the shelf stuff from Tesco.
Lame.

Ridiculous price to pay for someone to pour boiling water on coffee beans.
pfizzle82 2 years ago
@pfizzle82 its actually filtering boiling water through the beans, then using the resulting espresso to make a variety of drinks..........

Thanks rewedy, shit video? plenty of views so cant be that bad!!
Anyone who has suggested that we should have gone through the SU, this is why we didn't:
"Grow up, Stop being a bunch of moaning piss-arse twats and wind your fucking necks in"

If you cared that much you'd go to VP Comms or VP Rep... It's their job to REPRESENT the students.
Shit video btw. Absolutely poor.

I've seen the email quoted above, SU couldn't care less, only thing they care about is their revenue streams and status.
