The only thing I'm thinking about is that at the moment this video was filmed, just a few miles away, Horizons and the original Journey Into Imagination were running.
@babysinclairfan I think it's becuase it was now related to a movie and more kids would be riding it. Wasn't the Carnotaurus supposed to be a T-Rex until they made the movie.
Wow! It definitely seems different. I think the only good change was Seeker's dialogue on the ride since this one just didn't fit, but it seemed like the movements were much more intense. I wish they would change it back to Countdown to Extinction since everyone hates Dinosaur now and it would just work better.
although the audio isnt as good i remember riding this version and being way mnore scared....it was darker and the non-intense voice made it scarier in a way because its like you didnt know what was coming....idk it was just more suprising...
This is the original ride? What exactly is so different about the two versions? They seem pretty much the same to me, except for Dr. Grant Seeker's monologue.
@Leonniket The Carnataurus isn't a real dinosaur. There WERE real dinosaurs assigned the name Carnataurus, but the one in this ride isn't an accurate representation of the species, so they gave him a huge fake Latin name.
@Leonniket Yes, Carnotaurus was real. But the Carnotaurus in both the movie Dinosaur and the ride Dinosaur! are an inaccurate representation of the actual species. They even gave that type of Carnotaurus its own fake Latin name, as if it were a real dinosaur; Carnotaurus brutus somthing.
i went again last year and it wasnt as scary as it was just loud. it was a lil bit scary when the big whatever it is starts runnin frum the side towards your car. and at the end we went down a hill just as it looked as if the dino was gona eat us. its definetly one of the best rides at disney world
The ride did change....the first time I went on this ride I was turning seven and tht was in 1999....the ride was much scarier. The noises were louder and u jerked around a lot more. I may be wrong but it seemed like the chasing carnotaur use to actually chase u!...it was was way more intense!....still a great ride though. If disney wanted to they could make this ride incredible but because of little kids and those issues!...they have to tone it down to accomadate
haa, it seems all the scary rides start out in Florida and never make it to the west coast. ive never heard a complaint about a ride over at Disneyland or DCA being to scary.. sadly
the way people used to describe alien encounter and countdown to extinction sounds pretty awesome
Give me an "Evolution" of this ride.I want to know how it changed over the years can anyone tell me?Because right now for me i'm 11 years old and this ride is way freakey.
They toned it down a lot. I was there in about 1998, and it was scary as fuck. 10 years later I returned and it wasn't nearly as loud, the cars wern't as jerky, the music is different, and the Carnotaurus was "chasing you" (as in you can hear footsteps and roaring behind the car) but now he doesn't "give chase". I like the old version much better.
I remember buying the Disney Adventures issue covering Animal Kingdom in spring of '98. I bet that would have been a great time to visit Disney World. All the stuff at Animal Kingdom would have been brand new, plus some of the classic Epcot attractions would still be intact...Horizons, Wonders of Life, the original Journey Into Imagination before it was destroyed...not to mention Alien Encounter at Magic Kingdom and Disney Animation at MGM. No Rock'n'Roller Coaster would be weird, though.
theyre completely the same i think, except for the audio, i think it changed over time because a lot of the audio from this video is different from what is played in the ride today. i dont know if it has anything to do with the name change
this is NOT the ride I went on...Countdown to Extinction was bad ass with a storyline that you had to steal a T-rex egg and the T-rex chases you and at the end you see a big ass T-rex face opens his mouth, big bright light then you return this verson is crap
This is how the ride was at soft opening, that was a full month from the park's grand opening. Obviously alot has changed over the years, but I wanted everyone to see how it was during the preview. I was on the first bus into the park EVER and this was one of the very first rides we saw.
yes its changed the time I went on it, it was way to scary for kids (hence the change in Alien encounter to stitch) they had kids crying and they had to lighten it up which sucks for adults I loved the scariness of it
@dinoman96 You made that comment two years ago so I'm sure your question has been answered already but... This is the original Countdown to Extinction before the movie came out. It was later changed and renamed "Dinosaur" to match the movie. :)

Wow the ride was alot faster back then and the carnotaurus scene is totally different!
Originally, Carnotaurus gets right in your face and snaps at you. Then it sounds like he's chasing you.
Now he just lumbers over and you drive away before he notices you.
Also the carnotaurus at the end doesn't light up anymore.

Seeker's script is so much better in DINOSAUR. The laid-back not caring tone just doesn't suit it, removes alot of the threat frorom the ride.

The animatronic still chases the car...
The effect goes down sometimes though, as it's extremely complex.
