  • My Go(sh)(d) everyone... cool down and just enjoy the damn song.

If I wanted to argue the ideas and ideals of atheism versus religion, I'd go to a damn forum or talk to one of my atheist friends.

So, again, like so many have said before me: "STFU and ENJOY THE SONG! xD"

  • great...i came here to enjoy this song...but yet i see people fighting about religion and bragging about their degrees ....*sigh*

  • I love this song, it sings to a fear we all share...that of death...

  • @Dav1dChui @TheQuestionMark493

ok, first of all I consider myself an atheist but I think that everyone is absolutely free to believe in whatever they feel confortable with, I'm not making propaganda like "join atheism" or stuff, faith in my opinion is a private subject and if with your faith you are NOT violating my rights or anyone else's you are absolutely fine with me. Don't get fanatical and say that everyone else is wrong, maybe they are, maybe not, you can live well no matter the answer.

  • I just knew as soon as I clicked this page there'd be this huge argument about religion and atheism. What the actual fuck, guys? Stfu and scroll up, you're missing the song!

  • i'm depressed.

  • and maybe not those exact words .......but u get the jist

  • there is no inbetween ..."either your for me or against me" is what the bible says .... jesus loves you:)

  • Fact: there is a direct correlation between both high education level and/or Intelligence Quotient and atheism. Reason? atheism is by nature wanting to seek higher knowledge of our world. and religion survives only through impeding intellectual progress, because the more questions about our world science answers, the less religion has to hold on to.

chose atheism, don't settle for lack of knowledge. "god made it" is not an answer, it's an excuse.

  • @Dav1dChui Well said! Respect!

  • @Dav1dChui Fact: Correlation =/= causation. Don't settle for atheism. "I don't know about it so it doesn't exist" is not an excuse.

  • @ItssBrian you've got to be kidding me right? WHAT WE THINK is NOT "I DON'T know about it"... it's We are absolutely positively sure there IS NO supernatural, omnipotent humanoid who shaped the earth out of nothing and created humans in his image...

the reason almost every single scientist is atheist is because they have each observed and studied the world more than all you religious people combined, [cont]

  • @ItssBrian and if you'd take an upper division physics, biology, geology, organic chemistry or even astronomy class you'd realize that the whole concept is made up by primitive humans who sought to explain their own existence without the tools that we have today. It's an outdated fucking fairytale. why don't YOU believe in Zeus? what about Thor? what about the fucking Tooth Fairy? THAT is the reason why we don't believe in your monotheistic fairytales, [cont]

  • @Dav1dChui Physics - 2nd law of thermodynamics, the universe had a beginning. Astronomy - quantized red shifts, the beginning was not the big bang. Biology - flagellum motor, irreducible complexity demonstrates the impossibility for such a system to evolve. Geology - not enough mud on the sea floor (erosion rates put the level of mud on the sea floor at less than 12 million years). Organic Chemistry - too much carbon 14 in deep geologic strata, carbon 14 is found in strata [continued]

  • @ItssBrian OMG i seriously don't want to argue with you, look pal, I'm getting my Masters in PGE at UT, but i will argue because you're wrong.

Yes the universe has a beginning and the disorder, or entropy, of the universe is constantly increasing. 2nd law. but no supernatural force MADE it. Just because we haven't found out how it came to be doesn't mean GOD made it. (btw that's chemistry, not physics, and i took upper division courses in both). [cont]

  • @ItssBrian Biology is my least studied field, but I have read countless books about the evolution of life, and at it's most basic form, it is simply the NATURAL mutations and adaptations of species carry on genetically because said adaptations help it develop and survive. where is God? Geology... PLEASE don't talk about geology, it is MY FIELD OF STUDY. FUCK. JUST LISTENING TO UNEDUCATED TALK BRINGS PAIN TO ME! [cont]

  • @ItssBrian Tectonic processes constantly create and recycle the seafloor at divergent plate boundaries and continental plate boundaries, so idfk what you're talking about. Organic Chemistry: it's the carbon cycle bro, earth goes through eras of greater or less carbon concentration, but it always comes back to equilibrium through various self-initiated carbon balancing processes. You sound educated, but no doubt you have just taken lower-division classes or read a few simple science books

  • @Dav1dChui supposed to be billions of years old. C14's half life of 2,700 years means that no C14 atoms would be left after 250,000 years.

  • @ItssBrian AND ON THAT LAST PART: ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?!?!?!?!... ok please send that to my professor, and he will explain to you the in depth application and definition of HALF LIFE... OMFG are you kidding me... i'm speechless... have you actually done carbon dating yourself??!?! first of all... C14 dating's timespan is fairly short compared to other methods of radioactive decay dating BECAUSE it will have so few atoms because it's half life is so short, [cont]

  • @ItssBrian so therefore carbon decay dating becomes unreliable after a large time scale and you resolve to other radioisotopic dating methods. ok... if you want to talk to a PhD about this, here's the head of Geology at University of Texas: breecker@jsg.utexas.edu.

maybe he can shed some light upon your misconceptions

  • @Dav1dChui I said nothing about radio carbon dating. I said carbon is consistently found in strata supposed to be millions or billions of years old.

  • @ItssBrian because they are NOTHING but a bunch of stories, pure fiction, backed up by NOT A HINT of physical, concrete EVIDENCE. don't tell me fucking "love" or "miracles" or "near death experiences" because the first one is a result of evolution and hormones and chemicals in your brain, the second one is statistics and probability, and the third one is a dying, oxygen depleted brain hallucinating. see, the truth is that if you knew the most fundamental laws of physics [cont]

  • @ItssBrian like conservation of momentum, and the derivative of momentum is force, then just by that simple rule, you can conclude that there MUST not be any extra-physical supernatural force acting on the world at any time... please, do not bother me with your lack of education.

  • rather live my life like there is a god only to later find out there isnt, than to live my life like there isnt a god only to later find out there is....

  • @deltaD07 There's more than one god and more then one version of hell, you know? You just believing in one god statistically fucks you over. Your chances of not going to a hell of some sort are like 99.9% Also, if a god exists, it does NOT instantly follow that there's a hell, or that it'd send you there. One more thing, if you're just believing to be safe, couldn't god see right through that? He supposedly wants true followers, going on blind faith, not people who are to scared to commit.

  • by the way i think we shouldn't waste our time arguing about religions on YouTube...just enjoy the song...it's bloody awesome :)

  • i'm an atheist...i love this song....muse is awesome...i respect all religions :)

  • I like this song because it shows how even an athiest is hoping there is somthing more than total oblivian after death and that he is scared of the end and is hoping he was wrong.

  • I'm agnostic, I believe the fact that you can't be sure.

You atheist, prove, without a sliver of doubt, that there isn't a god.

You Christian, prove, without a sliver of doubt, that there is a god.

  • @TheQuestionMark493 I don't think is our duty to prove that some people's imaginary friend doesn't exist. On the contrary, those who claim that god indeed exists have to prove it. Hint: Start by defining a god.

I don't have anything against religions though. Just replying to your comment.

  • @TheQuestionMark493 That's one of the most common misconceptions of Atheism. Learn what it means before you try to act superior, okay? Atheism is a lack of a belief in a god. That being said, you can be both and agnostic and atheist. There's not contradiction between the two. Atheists don't NEED to disprove god, that's not the point. Atheism is a belief. My Atheism rests upon the lack of evidence presented by theists, as it does with MANY other atheists.

  • @TheQuestionMark493 Ya know your's is the only comment I've read that didn't resort to some meanspirited bickering. I realy appreciate it. :)

  • @TheQuestionMark493 id rather be the athiest to prove there is a god and become a christian, because id rather there have it there be heaven after death because like this song says it, its scarry as shit, i mean nothing when we die? Seriously thats fuckin creepy, and its forever? fuck that if i had to choose between nothing and hell id go hell.

  • @irkiIIer That's a basis of opinion, Personally I fear the idea of Eternal Life more than the Idea of Eternal Death. Especially the Christian heaven, Where I will be a in state of Eternal Bliss.

  • @TheQuestionMark493 Atheists do not know their is a god, They simply do not believe in a god, Their is Strong Atheism however that group is barely populated, most Atheists are De-facto atheists.

  • @TheQuestionMark493 Huh... by that definition, I'd be somewhat agnostic, but I consider myself Christian... oh well, guess a bit of soul-searching and self-introspection is necessary. Thanks for helpin' me learn a bit more about myself (hopefully). :D

  • I like this song...and I'm a Christian. Problem?

Now STFU, and enjoy the music.

  • @JustThatAwesome777 well said bro :)

  • Atheists are not atheists so they do not have to follow rules, they are atheist because they realized that there is no God. I would rather have my mind open to the wonders of the universe than to be closed by belief.

  • Why can't we just listen to music and worry about this subject later. :<

  • @guitaro321 agreed

  • i love how its all arguments about peoples faiths! this is an amazing song though!

  • who gives if god is real or not at the end of the day this song is EPIC.

  • if Atheists are right, then Christians will die & nothing will happen.

If Christians are right, Atheists are Screwed.

  • @iiheartshanedawson If christians are wrong, they wasted away their lives on absolutley NOTHING.

If atheists are wrong, yeah, we burn in hell for eternity, but atleast we lived our lives the way WE wanted too and didn't give a shit what some magical man in the sky thought about it.

I think the former is a worse fate.

  • @repticman123 Burning in hell for eternity aside, by living life the way you want are you going out murdering, raping, and pillaging? No. There is a basic human moral code, and that is what Christianity teaches. The Christians that judge other people for their beliefs are not being true to the religion itself. I have friends of all backgrounds: Agnostic, Atheist, Wiccan, Christian, Muslim, Buddist...I embrace their differences. That is the true difference between a Christian and an Atheist.

  • @iiheartshanedawson

And if muslims are right? If the hebrews are right? If buddhists are right? If the church of the flying spaghetti monster is right? If the scientologists are right? Or the moonies?

Or if God actually prefers people who don't believe in it as opposed to the pious for whatever reason.

That is precisely why Pascal's wager fails. So please stop propagating that awful argument.

  • @iiheartshanedawson so happy i'm atheist i can live my life without other rules than the law while you have to follow a huge book but on the other hand if you're right we'll burn in hell would'nt it be smarter to wait until then to tell us that?? well we can do it like this if i go to hell drinks on me xD

  • @TheNick3001 Let's have a good life then burn in hell, mate, LOL.

    It's a price we're up to pay.

  • @Gustavomazu yeah let's have a good life.

  • @Gustavomazu, indeed. :P

  • @iiheartshanedawson If christians are wrong then they wasted their entire lives on nothing. Worshiping someone who wasn't there. Believing in a lie. Atheists live their lives to the fullest and don't give a flying fuck what some invisible wizard man in the sky thinks about it.

  • @iiheartshanedawson

Pascals wager. Unfortunately it also applies to all other religions not just Christians so if the ancient Norse where right then all religions and no religious of now are screwed

  • @iiheartshanedawson uhm, what if muslims are right, or hinduists (or however you spell that), or jews, or catholics, or scientologists (!), it doesn´t matter who´s right, if there´s a god, he can´t punish people for not believing something that has never been proven, I prefer the way of the agnostic, I´ll never know if it´s true or not, so I choose not to believe either of those possibilities... And, anyway, great song by muse, as always...

  • @wazzojc epic comment is epic

  • @iiheartshanedawson not really because if christians are right id rather be in hell i wouldn't want to spend eternity wit them

  • @iiheartshanedawson If Muslims are right, Christians are Screwed. If Hindus are right, Christians are Screwed. If any other religion on the damn planet is right, Christians are Screwed.

I like how you left this part out.

  • @iiheartshanedawson The problem is that Christians are not right. There is not afterlife. Your consciousness is by definition being not only alive, but aware that you're alive. And a clinically dead brain has no consciousness. Imagine being under anesthesia, or knocked out, but forever. deeper than sleeping, for even while sleeping, the mind is still highly active. Trust me, i'm most likely more educated than you in the sciences, as i got my masters at UT and I am pursuing my PhD at Stanford.

  • @Dav1dChui Hey asshole, would you mind telling me the numbers for the next lottery? cause it seems like you think you know everything.

  • @iiheartshanedawson and if both are wrong and say islam is right there both screwed, and so on an so forth just change the religion that is correct

  • @iiheartshanedawson but what if the old egyptians were right.. than we are all screwed :S

  • @iiheartshanedawson- Since Atheists are right, religious people are wasting their only precious life believing a pointless Bronze Age Myth.

  • @iiheartshanedawson really? Pascal's wager, that's the best you can do?

  • @iiheartshanedawson and what if they are both wrong and the holy God of the Christians is not what their precious bible said? if there is a god that praises a fully lived life with normal sexuality, spontaneous good deeds, and thoughts of all kinds then most of the Christians would burn in hell while atheists would be saved... what proof do you have to tell I'm wrong, the same amount of proof I have to sustain this argument, zero!

the point is you don't know, and actually have no way to know.

  • For me this song isn't about atheism, it's about being scared to face the end of something. Whatever it is.

  • @tholesdino Its about the end of your life, and most religions are based and governed by what happens after you are gone ^_^ Just saying, no means to start an argument. That's just my interpretation anyways, no one knows what they really meant by it other than the band.

  • if matts in an ethiest ithen so am I

  • My theory: When people didn't know how to explain the world around them, they created "God".

  • why would there be anything after death

  • im an athiest, and i hate how people are so illogical about this stuff, and do we really need to start making music of it? either way i still like muse

  • @Mrstreetballer97

with duo all respect , I think it's illogical to think we are originally apes !

or the whole universe and earth creation was a Coincidence?!

  • @ossmbc your looking at it funny. we were not necessarily apes, just lower human lifefroms. and i hate when people think eveolution is illogical and they know nothing about it, like the "apes" we did evolve from dont exist anymore, obviously. and then lets look at your theory, an invisible man in the sky created the earth 6,000 years ago, and created light without the sun, and made peoplefrom mud, its pure fiction, sorry. at least evolution has eveidence.

  • @Mrstreetballer97

    haha

whatever , apes or non exist animal , your theory is truly fiction !

if so , why the human being is the only " animal " who has this super brain !

    Luck ? Coincidence ?

  • @ossmbc i dont understand your logic at all. at least evolution has evidence and makes sense. its because it could be luck, it could be coincidence. im only 13 and have a lot to learn so your asking the wrong person, but im very disappointed by the human race that we believe such nonsense as invisible men in the sky, its nothing short of a fairy tale that we wrote thousands of years ago because we were scared.

  • @Mrstreetballer97

    just tell your evidence !!

    then I'll tell you mine , ok :) !

  • @ossmbc you dont know any evolutionary evidence?!?1?! :O you need to educate yourself sir, i will lever the research to you.

  • @Mrstreetballer97

I shall say the same to you !

BTW , I know Edward Darwin and the big bang theory !

still , not proven anything dude !

  • @ossmbc edward darwin? isn't it Charles Darwin? lol, we have evidence though, and you have none. thats what im trying to say, that science prevails over fairy tales.

  • @Mrstreetballer97

    who said I don't ?

    actually u don't have a clear evidence !

I bet you prove it !

  • @ossmbc uhh, sir you are just dumb as hell, evolution and the Big Bans have evidence, when most of your bible stories have been proven wrong.

  • @ossmbc uhh, sir you are just fucking stupid. evolution and the Big Bang have lots of evidence, I'm not saying they are correct, but they are far more accurate than your bible stories; in fact lots of bible stories have been proven wrong.

  • @Mrstreetballer97

    LoL , I have proves , not stories !

beside I believe in the big bang , but the ape thing !

  • @ossmbc proves? you mean proof? and yes, they are stories, i would call them theories but umm no evidence lol.

  • @Mrstreetballer97

    LoL , I might not so good at English "" terrible !! I know ^_^ ""

but , u will not feel satisfied until u know the truth !

cause if my religion was right , u will be the biggest looser !

and if not , then we both lose nothing ! u r gambling !!!

  • @ossmbc i will not be satisfied till everyone learns the real truth. he circle of life, everything lives, and everything dies. and what is your religion? because some are better than others.

  • @Mrstreetballer97

    will talk lil private !

    check ur inbox

  • @ossmbc Sir, you're a dumbass.

  • jajaja, some more randomness, and the randomness comes on!, that's funny xD

  • I am going to worship this song, because right now, it is the only thing that makes sense.

  • Cutexinu, while there are "apparent contradictions" in the Bible, these are understood and resolved when seen within the context of the whole of Scripture. It is easy to take two unrelated verses, and place them next each other and say "Look at the contradiction! It is indisputable!" That is what makes the Bible so amazing. It was written by 60ish authors over a 1,400+ year span, and it speaks coherently on 1 theme:

  • what religions dont think about: What if Atheists are right?

  • @KrispyTreats12138 They wouldn't be successful religions if they had doubt :P besides, the same thing could be said about atheists; what if a religion is right?

  • @ottergold I think about that all the time and I came to a conclusion: I would be screwed.

  • @ottergold What if Spaghetty Monsterism is right?

Also, only ONE religion can be right, they all say the others are bullshit.

  • @ottergold There are tons of proofs that it's impossible, totally impossible, that a biblical god exists.

We don't "doubt" if religion is wrong. We know.

  • @Gustavomazu There is no proof that's it's impossible because there can be no empirical tests on the subject. Also, Quantum physicists have many theories that suggest that something with infinitely high entropy must have came before the universe. Most leading Astrophysicists and Multiverse theorists also favour the Egg analogy which not only leaves a lot of room for a god to exist but actually suggests it's more likely. Either way, nobody can really prove anything so it's a pointless argument

  • @ottergold All the things that "god" said he'd do for people in the Earth never happened.

Also, by your comment, I see you do believe in it. Just tell me why. Because your parent said he exists, so you believe on it? Haven't you ever stopped to think, and see, how impossible it is?

  • @Gustavomazu I don't believe in the god you're referring to. Also, my parents were not religious, I found my own beliefs through experience and self-discovery. As for what I actually believe; I'm not entirely sure. I'm a fatalist but I don't necessarily believe in a god who is a being, I suppose I see any sort of god character or concept as a personification of the forces of nature or reality. That's just what I believe though, people should believe what they want.

  • @KrispyTreats12138 Not nearly as much risk. Athiests put a lot of faith into being 'right' for the cost of what if they're wrong? :/ I don't see the benefit to being right as an athiest. Nobody is going to congratulate you when you die and nothing happens.

  • @cutexinu yeah, if we're wrong, we go to hell. If religious people are wrong, nothing happens. Not really fair but I don't care cuz I would be going to hell anyways =/

  • @KrispyTreats12138 Oh psh.. you'll be surprised at who ends up in heaven. It doesn't take a whole lot x)

  • @cutexinu Actually, in the Bible, God pretty much condemns every possible action. There are so many contradictions in God's laws that if Christianity is right, we're all fucked regardless of what we do

  • Comment removed

  • @cutexinu If you are right as an athiest, then you don't feel silly, if you are wrong, then you really shouldn't get sent to hell for the lack of believing - tyrant much? - [Isn't it supposed to be for what you did during life?]; If you are right as a religious person, then you go to heaven feeling better about yourselves, if you are wrong, then you may feel stupid for wasting you time believing in something like that (i mean, turn towards science, why don't you?)

  • @MsRetard5000 I'ma reply to you point by point if that's okay. x) Okay, first of all athiests make the lack of a religion their own religion. It's one thing to not believe there is a life after death or anything like that but it's another to spend your life trying to disprove it. The weird thing is most people who've set out to disprove the bible actually end up becoming christians themselves. :/

  • @MsRetard5000 Secondly, originally all people were destined for hell because of their sinful nature. It was because of God's grace that he made a way for people to be washed of their sins and come to heaven instead. That's not a tyrant. He doesn't force you to do what's best for you. You have free will to choose either path... Thirdly I don't believe you get into heaven by good works but I don't wan't to write a book on that right now. ;3

  • @cutexinu "fanatic alert, fanatic alert"

  • @MsRetard5000 Christians get a bad rap for being judgemental people who tell you what you're doing is wrong and you're gonnna go to hell but they're not even supposed to. Christians are supposed to be loving and gentle. They aren't even supposed to judge others, they're only supposed to worry about their own actions. One of my favorite quotes is "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone". Did you know that? o:

  • @MsRetard5000 And finally.. :I I'm kind of a science nerd. I'm majoring in chemistry. I believe that true science always proves the existance of God. The spiritual world is more real than the physical world from what I've seen. Take atoms for example.. the building blocks of everthing in this world.. But what are protons, neutrons and electrons made of? Emptyness? That's just bizarre.. Also- if you walk into a junkyard of car parts wouldn't that be weird if they spontaneously formed a car? xD

  • Comment removed

  • @KrispyTreats12138 Then nothing happens. The worst thing that can happen is an Atheist finding out that a religion is right. I'm Agnostic, btw.

  • @KrispyTreats12138 I think about it all the time. Sometimes I wonder if Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus, Jews, Christians ect... are right too. I can't be the only one who wonders.

And maybe one day I'll figure it out. But right now I am a happy agnostic.

  • im an atheist and im scared to die becasue i dont belive in any type of afterlife so for me its a big scary thought for it all just to end and my minds dissapperence in exsitence. muse took the words right out of my mouth "it scares the hell out of me" the only thing i can do to help ease my mind it tell myself that death is far away and try to live a good healthy life

  • @mcrmakesmemelt lol dude i am athiest. trust me there is nothing to be afraid of. dying is not all that bad. the truth is it shouldnt scare anyone life is just the climax to death athiest or religious either way there will be somthing after death because our mind can and will never die for example when we are awake everything we do we thing about it, it is in our head and when we sleep our brain tells us to breath, it lets us have the most amazing dreams ever scary or not, the power of the....

  • @mcrmakesmemelt mind is unreal it is amazing, just think about it... our dreams, when we dream it is basically just another life that we can play in do what ever we like. I believe that after we die it is just like a dream. our mind lives on through out the universe in a never ending dream. religious people just call it heaven, same story different version. dont be scared like hundreds of people said before. death is just the beginning.

  • @allenk727 Dreams are biological, how can they exist after the body has died?

  • @ottergold Because our minds our very powerful, humans only use a tiny % of our brains and look what we have achieved. Dreams are what we make them it would be like when we die our hair still grows and our finger nails there could be a part of the mind that is triggered by death that lets us do as I said in the last comment.

Sure what do you think happen when you die? (apart from heaven or hell dont even mention that shit to me)

  • @allenk727 Not possible, after death, brain dies, causing no more thoughts or dreams :/

  • @InvalidBullet after death the brain lives for around 7 minutes.

  • @allenk727 Yes, but that's about 7 minutes of dreaming then, if you what you say is correct.

  • @InvalidBullet we only use a tiny part of our brain. the unconscious part of the brain can process around

10 million pieces of information a minute. so there is always a possibility of being able to live on as a non physical being. If you think about it people talk about ghosts, spirits etc and the majority of the time it can be debugged but sometimes it cant be explained and that is what I think happens when we die. Our mind lives on. Thats my opinion. It cant be disproved.

  • Just to throw my 2 cents in... Everyone will die. It is their choice if they want to die thinking they will go to a better place or a hole in the ground. I'd rather think I'd be going to a better place other than a hole in the ground, but I'm not saying people need to be Christain like me. I know a lot of people who are perfectly happy thinking they will die and rot in a hole. EVERYONE is DIFFERENT. Tank ya very much. :3

  • I'm not an atheist per-say but dying doesn't scare me, it's what comes next. I want to exist in some way and have a consciousness of who I am. It scares the hell out of me too Muse. :)

  • eh what a suckish song. Im athiest though. :o

  • @ottergold What?

  • i hate that because this song has the word atheist in it it becomes some fuckin religious debate or you get all the opinions on what ppl think death is? WtF

  • The "yeah, yeah, " random stuff is my favorite part of the song.

  • haha "yeah yeah some random stuff"

btw such an awesome and meaningful song

    love muse

  • I'm not scared of death~

I'm not going to know I'm dead. I'll just be dead, it can't really inconvenience me...

    Love his voice ♥

  • @SilentxStalkerx Yeah... cos being dead isn't at all inconvenient in itself....

  • @ottergold Won't be an inconvenience to the dead person. They're dead.

  • @SilentxStalkerx I don't think it's death that people are scared of, it's probably the dying part :P

  • @ottergold Yeah I suppose the idea of dying slowly is scary, especially if you're not a masochist. xD

  • @ottergold no it's whether you'll be in heaven or hell

  • his voice...is like...hypnotizing.

the lyrics..his thought. so get over it. just saying.

  • Life is my Religion. God is Life.

  • Makes me glad I'm an atheist, too because since life is fleeting than I can enjoy it, be as impulsive as I want, laugh in a few people's faces, and have strange humour and not worry about life after a death that was never real. And I'd happily enjoy a cyber cookie, do they have chocolate chips in them or is it peanut butter?

  • does anyone else notice the irony when he says "it scares the HELL out of me"?

  • I dont own muse or this song, hahahaha. nice.

  • These are just the best lyrics for a song ever written down! It's like: Here are your lyrics. I love it!

  • Living for all eternity is a form of immortality, which is selfish. It doesn't matter what happens to me when I die, because it's not about me, it's about something greater. It's about giving back as much as I can while I exist to help ensure that humans, all creatures big and small, or at minimum, life as a whole in some shape or form continues; so that when I'm gone, those whom come after me can take their turn to experience how wondrous it is to exist.

  • MUSE has unique songs, great lyrics, amazing vocals; this is REAL music.

I was introduced to Muse about a year or so ago, and they quickly became my favorite working band. Among bands that are still playing, Muse dominates. I can think of a few older bands that I enjoy just as much, but nothing that's recent. If anyone has any recommendations for bands that can compare to Muse, I'd like to hear them. I've played Muse to death, and will continue to play it until I die.

  • Death is not the End.. Religious or Non-Religous.. It's only the beginning ;X

  • @TheSethGalleyChannel how is it the beginning?

  • Just found out the other day that someone I went to high school with passed away. And months before I heard about that, I learned that 3 others had died as well. I'm terrified to die. I really only ever think about it at night or driving in a snowstorm though.

    Good song ^^

  • I AM AN ATHEIST! IM SO EDGE-E!!!

    Faggots.

  • It's a shame that Matt was a little ignorant of Atheism in this song. This is not the "thoughts of a dying atheist" or certainly not mine at least. Hell, there are Atheists who Do believe in an afterlife, since Atheism is merely the lack of belief in God.

  • @YetAnthony I agree, it is more like what a Christian would consider death like if they were an atheist. They really should accept their death for what it is; the end. It's not so scary when you know what it is.

  • @YetAnthony Song's name is "Thoughts of *A* Dying Atheist". One atheist. One person, their beliefs. Calling the song "Thoughts of This One Dude Who Doesn't Believe in God or the Afterlife" doesn't have the same flow.

  • @RedCloudLove Even when it's named "Thoughts of A Dying Atheist, the name can still be misleading. The One atheist in the song can be inferred to represent all atheists.

  • @YetAnthony Yeah, but inference--especially with songs, even more so with songs hinting at religion--is usually more of a personal thing. You took away from the song that this is Matt's opinion of atheism in general, but I see it more of an "interesting thought I had that I decided to write a song about". I think the interesting thing about the song is the fact that it's just one guy; one self-proclaimed atheist that's doubting his beliefs. MUSE's songs are very versatile in that sense.

  • I think it's kind of funny how everyone took a song, which is merely an expression of thoughts and opinions of the writer, and turned it into a large religious debate. Can't we all just get along over a plate of cyber cookies?

  • @ILuvKingStags can i bake the cyber cookies?

i'll bring cyber brownies and tea, too!

  • @animeadictgirl

    That sounds great :]

  • @ILuvKingStags

I totally agree with you here. I thought once that you could find racism and violence and prejudice in everything (I've proved that you actually can, if you look hard enough) and it's just crazy that WE KEEP LOOKING! You can turn anything into a religious debate, but it's often best if you just leave it alone, and let the muse-ic play.

  • its not a religion its a relationship :)

  • An atheist has no reason to fear death any more than he fears sleep.

  • one thing I never understood about this song. I am an atheist, and I know many atheists.. Not a single atheist I know would express these thoughts. Most atheists don't believe in a possibility of an after life, most don't believe in the whispers Matt sings about that lay beneath his pillow. This sounds more like "thoughts of a dying agnostic". I've never prided this band on their lyrics, but their composition is fantastic.
