The five Orca to have died this last year were 0 ,12, 21, 25 , 28. The display Industry tells the Public this is normal and is no reflection on their lives in a concrete tank. The violent killings of two Orca Trainers in the last 15 months by a SW related Orca should again raise concerns but the Parks simply brush aside such sentiments, the show must go on.
If you’re a 12,000lb orca, you don’t obey anything. You do as you fucking please! Killer whales are apex predators. They are THE top predator in the ocean. You don’t bring a large, physically capable, and highly intelligent predator into a tank and expect it to follow some bitch’s orders without getting pissed off.
Anyone who “trains” these animals and gets killed by them is getting exactly what they deserve. This orca taught people a lesson.

I did a program at sea world where I worked with the trainers including some of those who were there. She had been working with this particular whale for a long time (they get assigned to one whale and one whale only) and he was trying to be playful. But as you know he's huge and didn't know what he was doing was killing her

The whale was agitated that day, too.... All creatures get angry or sad, but size plays a factor. I don't think the whale meant to kill her, maybe hurt her, but not kill her. Just like any animal, they can have temper tantrums and hit. She was dragged down and that was that.... It's like with my dog and cat. They got along just fine their whole lives, but one day my cat bothered my dog too much and my dog trampled her. Not to kill her, no, size just played in. My dog was depressed afterwards....
It's sad that the event occurred, but she knew the risks working with a large predator. They all do. Yeah it's sad that animals are kept in captivity, but if you ask any respectable trainer or keeper they would tell you that they want these animals in the wild too. There are so many factors that prevent this from happening however (and it's not the money). Animals in captivity are important though...they provide people with the knowledge of their wonder and encourage others to care about them

They'd be like "what's a killer whale?" Actually seeing their majesty helps people be proactive in helping those in the wild. And the "tricks" are natural behaviors the animals do (except for the ones where they can participate in their own vet care). They get rewarded for them.

They are NEVER forced to do anything. That's the interesting part about marine mammal training. You CAN'T force a whale or a dolphin to do a thing. That's why people train them. If the animal doesn't want to participate it can swim away or just not do anything. They get rewarded for not doing

So trainers can train the animals, but if you've been in the animal field or you're a trainer, you can watch a show and pinpoint where the animal missed a behavior or was acting up, or just plain ignored the trainer and didn't want to do it. The trainers know how to play it up and get the audience's attention on something else if an animal doesn't want to do something. They'll switch out an animal if it's not into it

Whales are supposed to be very smart, with a certain degree of consciousness, therefore I am not surprised that Tilikum snapped. Very sad for the trainer, I am sure she never saw that coming and trusted and loved the whale.

I think she was well aware of the chances she was taking by working with these whales. She obviously loved doing so. I am sad for her family, but if it were me, I would rather leave this world doing what I loved to do then any other way.

Why don't they just let him go. He's been worked for years, he's used by Sea World to produce offspring like he's some kind of resource. It's called rehabilitation, and surely with the billions of dollars they get every year, they could afford it.

@delmi1986 A killer whale who's lucky (or not) to be a marine mammal, otherwise, he'd have been put down as would any other type of animal suspected of a human death. There's a real delemna here. Freeing him after a lifetime of captivity may subject him to an even worse fate. Freeing captive kw's doesn't seem to rank high on the list of success stories.

i think she could of saw it coming cause it was put separated from other whales during matting season and it had other attacks before it was also acting up before the second show and why would u keep an animal this big in a small tank

I think she was well aware of the chances she was taking by working with these whales. She obviously loved doing so. I am sad for her family, but if it were me, I would rather leave this world doing what I loved to do then any other way.

@theatercatz yes i totally agree absolutley you took the words out of my mouth. she was a great trainer and she loved what she did..she is and was probably smiling in heaven when they decided not to uthinize the orca... she took her chances and all im going to say is that it was nobodys fault. This is so sad. let the whale go please Seaworld or this shit will keep happening. It's a waste of human life and cruel. These creatures are intelligent and must get so frustrated and claustrophobic. We as a species need to wake up and stop being arrogant. We are not special and we do not have the right to enslave animals in this way. would you like to live your whole life in a cage. Seaworld has alot to answer for, not only from what they do 2 whales but 4 the danger they put their staff in

I wouldn't degrade the very human species, just for a whale. Sure it's cruel, and it should not happen, but we as a species are very special, and arrogant.

Why don't they just let him go. He's been worked for years, he's used by Sea World to produce offspring like he's some kind of resource. It's called rehabilitation, and surely with the billions of dollars they get every year, they could afford it.

i feel bad for the whale, and sort of for the person. The animals at seaworld are abused: put in small enclosers, fed small amounts, and just plain abused!

@delmi1986 A killer whale who's lucky (or not) to be a marine mammal, otherwise, he'd have been put down as would any other type of animal suspected of a human death. There's a real delemna here. Freeing him after a lifetime of captivity may subject him to an even worse fate. Freeing captive kw's doesn't seem to rank high on the list of success stories.

my heart goes out to this family, and yes i feel bad. this shouldnt have happend. but whales only attack when they feel harmed, something had to triger this anilmal to feel unsafe. all this talk you hear about killing this whale, because its the third time something like this has happen, i think its just sad. dont people relize the whale didnt just decide that day that he was going to attack, something triggered that. they should keep that in mind before they kill this animal.
