Now I understand why classic exotic cars appeal to me, especially when driven with reckless enthusiasm, having been imprinted on my young brain way back in the 70's Fantastic Stuff. Shame the kids today will have ball room dancing, on ice skates, in between Eastenders and other utter useless TV tripe to nostalgically look back on. No wonder YouTube has become so successful!
LOL! I drive on this road (where the car race was shot) almost every days.
In France in that time (1971), there were not a lot of rules enforcement for drivers. They could make high speed races like they want on the motorways (or as we say in France: Route Nationale) and seat belts were not obligatory.
Such things are not possible nowadays.
Please, don't do that on the road, it's just a movie (lol)
Made in the days before horrendous traffic, high fuel prices and speed cameras. I couldn't imagine such a politically incorrect scene of rich men racing exotic cars in the South of France being allowed now.
Well when this was made there was probably half the number of cars on the road and speed limits weren't heavily enforced. In Britain in the early 70s we only had 11 million cars and motorways were fairly quiet.
The race obviously start at the airport in Nice but which Hotel does it end at? It looks like the Hotel de Paris in Monaco... Anybody can confirm that?
Indeed it is. I've been. Can't beat Casino square or the Fairmont Grand Hotel as well. I really need to get back to Monte Carlo and win some more at the Casino.
I'm not sure the Aston could have kept up with the Dino. It still had the early 6 cylinder engine installed. The V8 came a bit later. But the trunk was bigger than the Dino's, and, compared to the Ferrari apparently allowed for faster access too.
Should have been or was? The main reason they didn't make more was that they didn't like it that much in america, and that roger moore didn't want to do more - in fact the producer promised to do the series without getting his approval first. It's in his autobiography.
I loved this show ever since i first saw it repeated in the 1990s on a channel 4 show called Tv heaven with Frank Muir. But the thing is reality, with the car chase, there would have been some guy come round the corner in a truck and one of them would have been flattened. But this was the 1970s,people could have car chases like that! ;-]
Haha--watching Roger "Sinclair" Moores'outfit, it matches quite aquarate to the DiorHomme creation for 2008. This serie had a deeper impact on me that I've realized. Still was only 12 at the time.. still I love John Barrys' film-music. Thanks for posting, these memorabilia..
As seen in the end credits, the outfits worn by Roger Moore was designed by...Roger Moore!! How about that for a geeky fact!
I have also loved the show since it was aired (in Sweden) in the seventies.
Other less known fact (and meaningless) fact is that the gearbox in the Dino is inverted compared to a normal one, i.e. 1st gear down left, 2nd gear up left etc. Just like in a 70's Fiat 130 Coupé (which I own).
Thanks for posting! Would also like to have the theme song on mp3 ;-)
His costume isn't, actually, designed by himself. He explains it in his autobiography that he went to Debenhams - or whatever the firm was - because he was asked and he made a few remarks about it, that's it. I'll go and check, if anyone wants.
I too absolutely adored the Persuaders. They dont make programes like that anymore.I have had a wonderfully nostalgic afternoon.Watching clips of The Persuaders,Belle and Sebastian(original and not the cartoon),The Flashing Blade,The White Horses,Follyfoot,Black Beauty,The High Chapparal.. i own a rare, 1971, dbs v8, royal, carribean, blue. it's not in running, order, because i can't get a CLUTCH ! an aston when tuned, properly, will always be far, superior, to a tempermental, ferrari. bs-1, by the way, was a dbs, with a six. made to appaear as a v8. the performance, of an aston, v8, is shattering
Wrong, the Dino has a rather tiny 2,4litre V6 churning out some 190hp, and the Aston DBS has a 4litre straight6 with 282hp for the standard version and a nice 325hp for the Vantage version. Need I even mention the totally superior torque of the Aston?
Wrong, the Aston was a 6-cylinder. A V8 called the DBSV8 was also produced but that was a family car. And the Ferrari 246 GTS Dino Danny drives is much lighter and used as a GT car while the Aston wasn't :).
well, didn't I write it's a 4,0litre STRAIGHT 6?? that's almost twice the displacement of the 2,4litre V6 of the Dino, not to mention the much higher torque which more that makes up for the higher weight of the Aston
and the Vangatage version of the DBS was a straigh6 which made 325hp, the standard made a healthy 282hp
the Dino was never seen as a really quick car even in its day and lived more on its looks....
I absolutly love this video. The sights, the sounds, the cars, the actors. PURE 60's. This song is SO hard to find. Anyone got any links or anything to help? Its such a cool song.
PURE 70's! The Persuaders is a British television series, which first aired in 1971 and 1972 on Britain's ITV and on the ABC Network in the United States.
Great clip which emphasises the rivalry between the two men and how they are so equally matched. The judge will have to give them an equal fine for such driving. Nice song.
The route they took is the one from NICE AIRPORT to MONACO. HOWEVER, there are two ways to get from Nice to Monaco. One is to drive along sea-shore (basse corniche), the other uses the moyenne corniche which is much higher-up in the mountains. Rog is the man - he didn't even have to be 007 and he had an Aston - by the time he was Bond it must have been like "yeah man, I've done that, gimme an Esprit submarine - I'm radical, baby!" though he doesn't speak like that. Eat that Sean. Tony's cool as well. Cheers for that
The only way this could be any better is with a bit more engine noise.

Interesting! I have to read his autobiography (any nice "autos" in it?).
It's called "The word is my Bond" but in Sweden it got the corky title, that in English would read, "My name is Moore - Roger Moore".
Still, his Silk shirts are definitely "groovy" - whoever designed them.
