WOW!!! How old is that thing? What are all the square lights on the front of it for??? Did they record like Benny Goodman and Gloria Gaynor on one of those. My grandparents have those CD's lol...
@oooowwwwdddd I would guess it is about 30 years old. Those square lights are VU meters, which are used for monitoring how loud the sound is on each track. If those people made music before the mid 80's, it is almost certain that their music was recorded on a reel to reel deck.
Oh gosh.. I am so glad that the world, and technology has moved away from 8 track cassette, LP records, cassette tapes, minidiscs, and that old outdated piece in that video. My gosh.. I have been recording for years.. and I couldn't wait for digital technology to move any faster from a pre- and post production point of view.
Hi... I'm a technic of sound and I'm interested for this machine to my recorder works. Is it for sale? How much is this product? I wait more informations, please. thanks. Bye.
Here is the problem that I have. That machine cost $60,000 new. A computer running protools cost around $2,000 new. The Otari was made to live and breath music. The computer was made to post pictures, surf the net, and watch porn. Whats wrong with this picture?
A computer nowadays goes for 3+k with the 8 core config. A PT HD3 goes for around 15/20k new. That's 22k. not just 2k. However, I agree with tape machines living and breathing music. Gotte love it!! (I know I do.)
nice unit, ive always loved recording studios and all the gizmos they use to make music, now its all done on computers 48 track uncompressed PCM wav files then they can digitally edit any track to their liking but its cool to still see these tape units purring still

2 inch machine these days are cheaper (2k up to 8k $) then modest DAW and computer + audio interfaces and top notch analog to digital converters.
over 15 k $.
but keep in mind that u need good console because you cant mix without it while working analog with 2 inch r2r.

I remeber going into studios back in the '80's, the tape was very expensive!

even at the end of the 90's too !

It's even more expensive now. When I got started with 1", it was $65 a reel, now it's DOUBLE that.
