when i went and looked at the general public's overall reception of the film, i was dismayed. this was one of the best, if not THE best, superhero films i've ever seen. i mean i like the new batman series, iron-man, and spider-man films, but this one added an unprecedented depth and realism to the characters that i found truly amazing

If you look in the comic Ozzy is lonely and ambiguous I think because he is too perfect to fall in love with lower minded people -whatever preference if you want straight or gay-. In the movie they fucked it all with that mac screen bussines making him a gay character. My theory is he killed his parents and really hated his mother as a overprotective figure and every woman seems like her to him.
There is two flashback scenes in the comic book when Ozzy's mother is speaking with a teacher -overprotective mom- and another shows Ozzy sitting over his parents grave in a sort of triumphant pose -maybe he killed them-, reading Freud works and avoiding japanese anime of course...

Ozy belives that no man is extra-ordinary, and then anyone can be as fast or strong or smart as he is. But they must choose to be so.
He chose at an early age to be smart. And trained himself to become so. He's stong because he practices gymnastics everyday. He's fast because he anticipates the actions of his opponents.
His hand didn't move faster then the bullet. His hand was there to stop the shot before she fired, because he knew where she would shot him, and when.
In that case, no-one else would see you as much of a hero. Even the actor who plays the Comedian in the movie describes him as a "down-and-dirty Captain America", and we all can see Doc Manhattans aloofness from humanity in the movie.........."I prefer my red planet to your blue one". Hmm... The Comedian is a big, unambiguous asshole. Ozy is somehow an anti-hero. In fact the only one who does something to prevent the destruction of man. dr mahantan is passive overpowered amoral fvck; rorscharch is conservative and uncompromising; Nite owl is fucking powerless passive nerd joke; and sil spectre is a useless whore.
What i don't get here is that if Dr Manhattan is the only character with superpowers in Watchmen, then how does Ozymandias have superhuman strength+speed?
Same way Usain Bolt can run faster then anyone else. He was very talented to start with, and then he trained himself to the very peak of human perfection.
Every Watchman (Dr. Manhattan apart) had obviously trained to hell in gymnastic and martial arts. Ozymandias did it probably twice more then any other character, and he intensely trained his mind, too.
He has no superhuman strength nor speed. He has just the maximum possible strength, speed, stamina, reflexes, technique for a human being.
Better than Batman! Ozzy is not a revenge slave and he started from zero his financial empire. Batman is just a white collar criminal, Ozzy is a machiavellian savior of humanity.
I can't say that because Ozzy is the the most powerful man in the world after the end of the graphic novel, and like in our reality the Bildelberg group I believe he can remove chairmen and goverments as he wish. Watchmen predicted the unipolar world of today.
We're meant to like all the characters despite that fact that each one of them is flawed in one way or another. They each say something different about the human condition.
there are 3 kinds of ppl who watches this movie: watchmen fans, ppl who has no clue what watchmen is, and ppl who thinks watchmen is your ordinary superhero flick..

Ozy kicks ass! In the movie (and in the comic) he easily killed the Comedian, and when Nite Owl and Rorchach fought him in his arctic retreat he was beating the crap out of both of them when they were fighting (but then stopped after a while). How the hell does he do that?
Well, it's pretty simple. He's intelligent. For the years he had grouped with the watchmen, he already knows their fighting style and stuff so it's easy for him to beat the crap out of him.
dr manhattan is selfish and boring. and his description of the "miracle of human copulation" is just hilarious. he's a disposable character. the only really interesting ones are rorschach and ozymandias.
watchmen without manhattan: ozymandias fakes an alien attack to prevent nuclear war. then he kills rorschach so he doesn't tell the world about ozzy's plan. so uh... it's pretty much the same, except manhattan doesn't leave earth and ozymandias kills rorschach.
That's the ending but the story only works if the political climate is that of one where Manhattan exists. Plus without him the sideplot of Silk Spectre and Nite Owl wouldn't have existed.
you don't need dr manhattan to have that political climate, things are bad enough between america and russia without him. the only difference would be america wouldn't feel safe while manhattan was around.

Dr Manhattan: Determinism (for him, past present and future are the same, so nothing can be done)

Rorschach: Moral absolutism (he always does what he believes is correct, even if the consequences are worst)

In that case, no-one else would see you as much of a hero. Even the actor who plays the Comedian in the movie describes him as a "down-and-dirty Captain America", and we all can see Doc Manhattans aloofness from humanity in the movie.........."I prefer my red planet to your blue one". The world would '**** its pants' whilst trying to find a way to get rid of you.

Same way Usain Bolt can run faster then anyone else. He was very talented to start with, and then he trained himself to the very peak of human perfection.
Every Watchman (Dr. Manhattan apart) had obviously trained to hell in gymnastic and martial arts. Ozymandias did it probably twice more then any other character, and he intensely trained his mind, too.
He has no superhuman strength nor speed. He has just the maximum possible strength, speed, stamina, reflexes, technique for a human being.
