I dont know if my pops can learn this song unless you teach him. But I guess you want hear it with a Latin influence. Maybe a Cuban "guajira" style would be a good version. I play a Puerto Rican cuatro (PR's national folk guitar). Let me see if I could learn it by ear.

The pedal steel plays over the top and you can play the rhythum on a acoustic guitar to get more of a melody.
