  • YES!!! please, top gear, fifth gear, car magazines, whatever, all of you follow suit, and do more with the xj220. take it around the ring, road test it, FUCK. it sucks that all the classics from the 90s have shit for actual road tests, especially the xj220, it never really gets the recognition it deserves. XJ220>Pagani Zonda>McLaren F1> Ferrari 458>Nissan GT-R

  • @thnk4urself sorry but the Mclaren F1 is better than the XJ220 and most definitely superior to the Zonda when you take into consideration what era each car was built in. The F1 was made just a few years after the XJ and dominated it in every respect. As for the Zonda, well that was made 10 years later and still didn't match the top speed and essence of the F1

  • FLAMES!!

  • What's with the paint job on the GTR?

  • I have always loved the XJ220.

  • Funny to see you guys argue over two very good car shows. Here in the U.S. you get nothing good for cars unless you like dreadful NASCAR. I will say I watch TG more for the entertainment as those 3 guys are hilarious, but if its information I want, I'll read an article or something. I do like this guy though, for the reason someone mentioned that even though his job allows him to drive cars like this all the time, he still is just as excited as I would be.

  • More Chris Harris, less of the old guy. Not trying to be mean, just realistic.

  • FLAMES!..best old school vs new school ever

  • amazing XJ220!!

  • I'm flagging this as inappropriate! reason: Sexual content

  • so what we learn from that? nobody makes cars like they used to 20 years ago

  • @MrDoctorRoberto No. Cars of today must comply with mostly idiotic nanny state regulations, therefore carry a lot of weight. And weight spoils everything. That's why the XKRS can't keep up with the XJ220 despite the fact that both have equally powered engines.

  • imagine what it could do with a v12

  • Top Gear is great, don't get me wrong, but sometimes i'd much rather watch EVO, Drive, Fifth Gear and OptionAuto. They're all serious shows for people who are truely passionnate and actually KNOW things about cars. Thank you Chris Harris.

  • @GiveMeThatMango You don't think the Top Gear presenters "KNOW things about cars"?

  • @bordenwesley Barely. Only James knows how cars work. I doubt that Jeremy could even explain some basics stuff, like difference between a mechanical diff or a torsen diff, or between double wishbone or Macpherson strut. I mean he's a good presenter but so far away from Chris Harris. Also, none of the 3 top gear presenters is a good pilot. And Chris actually drove in the Carrera Cup

  • @GiveMeThatMango You do know that Jeremy has a PhD in engineering, right?

The chemistry between the presenters is what makes the show so enjoyable. If you threw Chris in the mix, the chemistry would be off and the show would inevitably be boring.

  • @bordenwesley ... I never said I wanted Chris to go to Top Gear. I just said that he's a much better presenter than Jeremy. I know that the 3 presenters of TG have a great chemistry but I was talking about their knowledge. Don't start a different debate.

And, yes I know that he has a PhD. However it is an honorific PhD, which means that he received it without any study in the domain... It really doesn't give him any knowlegde in thermodynamics, physics or mechanics or automobile engineering.

  • @bordenwesley His degree is Honorary and means nothing.

  • @mukers He has been a motoring journalist for most of his life. Sure, his PhD isn't really that credible, but I'm sure he knows more about automotive engineering than most of us.

  • @bordenwesley Knowing about how well a car drives, or how good it is to drive doesnt show an understanding of the principles involved in how they work. My Grandads driven a car longer than jeremy clarkson, he could describe what a car is like to drive but it wouldnt show any understanding of the engineering involved. The honorary degree means nothing and you would be stupid to defend it.

  • @mukers Do you have anything that says that Jeremy doesn't have a greater understanding of the principles involved? It may mean nothing, but that doesn't mean that he knows nothing. You'd be stupid to assume that.

  • The XJ220 is such an awesome car.

  • Subscribed =)

  • Question, let's say i'm winning the lottery, and then i get myself a supercar. Is it possible to bring it to the ring for a ride? Just talking.

  • @Bemap30 Go to heiser.net/documents/nurburgring/

  • @AntiIgnorantDimwit thanks very nice info!

  • @Bemap30 Yes it's possible. You just have to pay 22 euros or something like that per lap. Actually you can bring any car.

  • I love the fact that Chris has a GT3 RS 4.0, had a GT3, has run an SLS etc. yet he still reacts to supercars as all us 'normals' do. A proper petrolhead and that's one of the things that makes him such a good journalist. :-)

  • this is the Holiest machine sounds one can hear from car exhausts..!

  • i am going to have to save this video... just wow!!!

  • FLAMES!

  • Evo is definitely the best car magazine. I wish Jaguar still made hypercars :(

  • Better than Top Gear

  • There's a tuned xj220 with 831 whp running a motec ecu, it would probably demolish anything on the face of this planet that is road legal. 900+hp xj220 with sports suspensions, slick tyres, rims and brakes, stripped / lightened / rollcaged, full exhaust system and twin Garrett GT35's on the ring would probably set a new world record and outrun anything that dares face it. When I think of what a supercar should look like, I think of the xj220 immediately. Wide, long, curvy, sexy beautiful car!

  • @mvm199 really?:O

I searched for it but no resolts came... can u show site, picture or something to check that car? I'm really interested.

  • @iliabashel watch?v=yUDQ0Lccf04&list=FL8G892SVAUnVw_AANq6KEHw&index=10&feature=plpp_video

  • Awesome video thank you Evo! Flames!!

  • get him on top gear!

  • the XJ220 is so ahead of its time, V6 supercar that could outrun a zonda, amazing car..

  • "How big are that guy's bollocks?" Brilliant!

  • fuckin music

  • and that, ladies and gentlemen, is a perfect example of the reason why evo has been, is and Lord willing, will continue to be, the very best car mag on the planet. that is all.

  • Never seen any vids with flames coming out her back of a XJ220 before.Although tbh there isn't many vids of anyone caning one like this

  • Rock and roll boys, rock and roll. Possibly my new fav Ring vid of all time?

  • i wud love to take a photo with Chris Harris !

  • "flames! :D"

  • XJ220... love at first sight. I'd want to become rich just to get one of those :)

  • Super bldy dupa!

  • Top Stuff !

  • Love the video and I totally understand his why he is talkin so much but they did messup on the edits. Oh and how great the video would've been if we could've heard the xj220 motor also while it went round da track.

  • Brilliant job done there but messed up while editing. it's need to be longer than 3:34

  • Awesome. Thank you Evo. And thank you Chris!

  • he looks simply relax driving the XJ220 at that speed.. fantastic!!!

  • Nice1!

Check out my uploads, comment & rate please!!

  • Jag should make a Modern day XJ220!

  • EPIC

  • John Nielsen 4 the win!

  • Denmarrrk :)))

  • Fake and gay ;-)

  • Looks like James corden looool

  • That was one of the coolest videos ive seen for a long time, I was completely in a Trance throughout the whole thing. John Nielsen is one of the great Danes, that still competes in Le Mans from time to time, and is still active as racing driver today. Fedt kørt John :)

  • hahaa class

  • FLAMES !

  • Yeah yeah so the guy talks a lot - that's because he's EXCITED! Although my time on a circuit is measurable in mere hours, I know what a buzz you get and, wether you realise it or not, you can wind up babbling on like a wally because you're pumped up!

While I once got to drive a supercharged Jag XKR (I wont repeat what I said when I first opened the throttle all the way!), I can't imagine what the XJ220 is like!

    Wardy

  • Chris, you are one of the best car journalists out there, keep up the good work!

  • I'd be perfectly happy with either of those cars. It's like the difference between Monica Bellucci and Kate Beckinsale, you'd do them both (at the same time if possible), and the score card would read exactly even. ;)

  • The XJ220 is 20 years old? Man... I think I've misplaced a decade somewhere

  • I had to watch this AWESOME video on mute because he wouldn't shut his damn mouth long enough for me to enjoy it. >:-(

  • What was the lap time?

  • the thing I love about Chris is you can hear his genuine enthusiasm for cars, he simply loves cars

  • I'd rather hear the XJ220's engine above that rather dull V8.

  • @haarsje Ever heard an XJ220? It's absolutely nothing to write home about.

  • id rather the XJ220 any day of the week over that XKRS

  • epic......

  • I'm not trying to be an armchair driver here (I couldn't drive like this)

    BUT

The flames from the XJ220 around those corners = he's letting off the gas, right? Well, isn't that not the best idea in a mid-engine high horsepower car? Wouldn't it make the car prone to snap oversteer?

  • @ThePirateMD obviously not dude - there has gotta be some lift off

  • @AndyJamesWilliams well yea, thats why I thought it'd be best to let off and slow before the turn...letting off mid turn and then applying power again can be disastrous in a high-output mid engine car...

  • ya no hacen coches como los de antes

  • Such a cool event.

Please release some unmolested footage of the full lap with no music for the enthusiasts.

You've slightly gone back to old form here, with dvd trailer editing, which doesn't make much sense given that there is no dvd.

  • XJ220 is my favourite car among stars like Bugatti EB110 and McLaren F1

  • It is widely accepted the XKR-S is the worlds best Super GT, the XJ220 is great despite the V6, but it does have huge amount of torque and low weight. If only it had good brakes

  • This was an awesome watch, love the whoosh of the 220 as it passes the camera car, and Chris H getting more and more excited as the lap goes on 'Flames!'

Why Chris isn't on TV I'll never know - the guys a legend

  • Does that mean the new GT-R could lap faster than the XJ220?

  • @bloximonkey: It's obvious, is it?

The GT-R is much younger, has AWD.

    And I'm mean I LOVE the GT-R :D

  • so exactly how bad is the turbo lag on the 220? How about maintenance? I hear that the fuel cells have to be replaced every 10 years which involves shipping the car to specialists in the UK.

  • PUT THIS MAN ON TV!

  • Loved how tranquil John Neilson looked behind the wheel. Didn't care much for the soundtrack near the end, engine noise would be nicer.

  • ... Seeing the old Mclaren vs the new( unofficially nicknamed "Super Nanny") was a hoot and now the Jags..sweet! Didnt think i'd get to see a XJ220 again since Mclaren stole the top speed show for a while. I wonder if the XJ220 S has ever been on the "Ring"?. Now I need a vid of the Ferrari F40, F50, & the twin turbo Testarossa vs the 458, 599, & the Enzo (although I wouldnt mind a F355 & 550 vs 360 & F430 faceoff ).

  • @DreamGTS

Jaguar XJ220 set the Nürburgring lap record in 1992 with a time of 7:46 -- a record that stood for several years.

  • @BestJinjo impressive but what of the "S" model ? or is it vaporware err -car.

  • the xj220 is awesome...wonder what it could do with good brakes

  • forza and gt5 can look as good as they want 2. 1 day i will rent a car and drive the ring hahah

  • 3:09 glorious

  • This video is why we are subbed to EVO on YouTube! :) LOVE IT!

  • More than 220 videos on the channel and you guys haven't yet understood that we want to listen to engines, not to useless music! Come on!

  • he catches the xj on the brakes, brakes on the xj dont do its power justice

  • rear lock up... rear lock up! ..FLAMES!!!!

  • This vid. More like it please.

XJ220, really was a car for my childhood dreams.

  • Excellent video Evo/Sam... These just keep getting better and better. Enjoying them immensely... cheers.

  • huge props to EVO for pulling this

  • I heard Chris Harris is tipped to be the next eskimo king

  • The XJ220 is one of my fav car other than the McLaren F1.

  • @StingRayINC You said it!

  • @StingRayINC marry me

  • Great video. One doay I hope I get to see Chris Harris do longer videos

  • It should have been the Panemera Turbo and not the S model... So a big wtf goes to the producers for choosing the S :) But no matter what,EVO rocks....

  • @demiruyar1 what are you talking about? lol

  • Have a go, mr. Harris. Have a go.

  • Great Video! What beautiful automobiles they both are.

  • British jag > indian jag

  • @jdc4 -- It's still "British Jag"--just different owners.

  • ANDNOW I KNOW WHY EVERYONE LOVES THAT JAG.

  • how can someone dislike a video with chris harris and a XJ220 in it?? don't unterstand....

  • @stotheimon1 Cos the noise (background music) is too loud, can't hear the music (engine) at all.

  • @Noctilux2 you must be deaf? or maybe you watched the wrong video... i am able to hear the engin sound^^

  • @stotheimon1 because, statistically, 3 out of 488 people (at the time of printing this) are, in fact, arseholes.

  • @stotheimon1 These disliked the fact the video was too short, I think.

  • @DennisBerkhout1, I agree totally. It should have been at least 10 min.

  • Comment removed

  • One of my favorites the xj220

  • I don't care for Jags, but I'm here to watch Chris Harris

  • @aikenforjeff I don't care for people who doesn't care for the XJ 220...

And when will people realize that John Nielsen set the 7:46-lap in a car with (more than) 20 year old brakes and tire-technology?

The track was also slower then. I'd reckon the XJ 220 with the brakes and tires of today would be at least as fast as the GT-R and the GT2.

  • @NegerKim, great point. I agree. My God the XJ220 design is so beautiful. It does not looked dated at all.

  • xj220 is an absolute legend, even if it is metro powered haha

  • Even if the XKR-S was ever faster, I would still take the XJ220 every F'in time!

  • 2 dislikes? how can u dislike this?

  • @ratpie ferrari fanboys

  • a little reminder HOW A SUPER CAR MUST BE...brute power whithout fancy shi**ts

  • Everybody forgot about the 220. I didn't :)

  • Common evo, this video is shorter than your review of the honda civic.

  • wow!!!

  • Chris is best.

  • FLAMES!!!!!

  • Very cool video and good to see, that Chris is back!

  • chris harris is the shizz

  • Back on track 4 Evo mag.. (pun, definitely intended)

  • Fantastic stuff!

Jaguar Supercars page on Facebook has lots of good pics and links to other vids too.

  • The XJ220 was gimped from the start. Yes, it was quick, but it could have been quicker.

  • Chris is the man.Evo should do 30min specials featuring Chris for Youtube.I suspect they would be quite popular.

  • Great video. But, can we hear more of the XJ220's sound, please? And what about the drag race? :-)

  • Was here for the XJ220 ... Not for a XKRS -_-'

  • I wish the haven't edited the video, cause it would be so interesting to findo out the weak and strong points of each car at every corner ...

    Love the 220 btw

  • lui marco liked this thats why i clicked it thumbs up if u did also

  • great video, evo, well done!

  • Great commentary by Chris Harris :)

  • my wrx will eat them in snow

  • @12valvepower1

if i had a defender it would eat them off road. yay.

  • @12valvepower1 my skateboard will eat your car in a skate park.

  • @12valvepower1 my space shuttle will eat your car in space

  • Please upload the full lap. Please please please.

  • luimarco

  • That was epic! Love both the cars.

  • They sure as hell don't make supercars (or cars in general) like they used to… That XJ220 is Awasome!

  • this is way better than fifth gear's drag race comparison shit

  • This deserves more time!

  • The old man quite casual at it's driving, Chris with it's eyes about to pop out... LOL

  • xj 220 is a brilliant car :) better than all the new ones!

  • Love EVO! Gorgeous video editing, Chris's driving and words he's using!

It's new level, for example S H I T xD! How he explains about cars, is like nothing else on motoring world!

  • Would love to see the whole lap unedited

  • 400Kg's is a lot! That's why the XJ220 still remains monumentally quick to this day... que Clarkson's comment round cars from the days of Miss Thatcher's VS the cars from Blair's era etc etc...

  • HI DEAR CHRIS , I PREFER F40 LM VS F50 GT .

  • Got to love them flames

  • BRILLIANT!

  • bloody hell steve can drive!! that XJ220 would have been a complete handful in wet slippery condition let alone the ring!!!!!!!!

  • Chris is just like a kid behind the wheel ! And that's what we like about him ! Keep doing !

  • Awesome!

Let's do it again with a Porsche 959 against 991 Carrera S or Ferrari F40 vs. Ferrari 458!!

  • I LOVE EVOTV!!!

  • I like the old car more.

  • chris harris for top gear when jeremy retires!

  • Chris harris makes every vid epic. give this guy some proper air time. like let them take over top gear or something. no bullshit no producer craming ideas up there ass. just let them review cars how we want em to be reviewed.
