Merveilleux Nicolas ! Jacques ROUCHOUSE
Does anyone know what music is being used for the intro/ending of the video clip? The singing is breathtaking and I'd love to know what work is being performed. Thank you for sharing.
Goldmark's opera Die Königin von Saba ("The Queen of Sheba"), Op. 27, was celebrated during his lifetime and for some years thereafter. First performed in Vienna on 10 March 1875, the work proved so popular that it remained in the repertory of the Vienna Staatsoper continuously until 1938.
The aria, sung by Nicolai Gedda, is: "Magische Töne", from "Die Königin von Saba", by Karl Goldmark.
Karl Goldmark, also known, originally, as Károly Goldmark (Hungarian: Goldmark Károly) and, later, sometimes as Carl Goldmark (May 18, 1830, Keszthely January 2, 1915, Vienna), was a Hungarian composer.
Nicolai Harry Gustav Gedda [Harry Gustaf Nikolaj Gädda] was born in Stockholm to a Swedish mother and a half-Russian father.
Gedda was raised by his aunt Olga Gedda and his adopted father Nicolaj Ustinoff (a distant relative of Peter Ustinov), who sang bass in a Cossack choir and was cantor in a Russian Orthodox church.
Gedda grew up bilingual and learned English, German, Italian, and Latin besides Swedish and Russian.
¡¡¡BRAVISSIMO!!!Caro Maestro NICOLAI GEDDA,aunque desde Tanta lejanía,Siempre está en Nuestra Mente, en Nuestro Corazón,Argentina:* LO ADMIRA,LO EXTRAÑA Y LO QUIERE MUCHÍSIMO!!!*GRACIAS*por toda su Trayectoria, por TODO SU TALENTO Y SU SABIDURÍA!!!
As a matter of fact, this short video was produced, in Switzerland, several years ago, as a private recording relating to the specific pronunciation of those Russian operatic lyrics.
Thus, it is not really a part of a documentary about this wonderful tenor, but it would rather be sort of a tribute dedicated to him.
Dear Icareh! I dont know what happened but i must have clicked a wrong button or something because the user name teasexxxtouch is definately NOT Mine. I am Etnalleb , the comments were mine not the User name. Ty again for posting such a wonderful video.
Dear Icareh! You are most welcome. I stand by my statement the N.Gedda was the Greatest Lyric Tenor, he sang more Lyric roles than any other tenor. I prefer him over J.Bjorling because Gedda was exciting to watch and he didn't sing stiff or sound like he was reading right off the score. J.B
Nicolai Gedda in my opinion had the sweetest most pleasurable Lyric Tenor voice EVER. As regards to being the Best Lyric Tenor of all time it would be to hard to choose between Gedda and Pavorotti, 1 had a bigger voice with a more powerful tenor, but Luciano pushed and strained where as Never once did i ever see or hear Nicolai strain or push, he absolutely had no touble at all with any High C's or D's for that matter, he even hit a F above C with no strain at all, ok Gedda was the Greatest.
Dear Etnalleb! Thank you for your message! I totally agree with you and, above all, I am elated to read from you such a thorough and accurate description relating to the incomparable vocal art of this greatest aristocratic vocal Master.
Dear Herur22! Sorry for answering so late! I humbly apologize. The great Gedda that I met was quite a kind, friendly, good-hearted and sensitive person, as well as being also a deep philosophical, spiritual (and sometimes tormented) soul. These idiosyncrasies did not prevent him to be also endowed with a fantastic and exquisite sense of humor (I still remember some hilarious jokes from him).
Although aware of his value as an artist and soloist (due to his extensive and continual vocal studies), he was also humble and ready to always perfect his vocal technique and improve himself even more, as well as being always prone to admire the vocal majesty of several of his colleagues.
Thank you very much for your answer. I have read the (auto)biography of Gedda, but it's nice to get an opinion of an independent third person. I admire Gedda as an artist very much, he is by far my preferite singer, It's nice to know that also the private person behind corresponds to the image of the artist. Best regards!
Among other, he admired the quality of voice and perfect technique of Luciano Pavarotti. He was also quite moved by Victoria de Los Angeles. Among other, I also remember him saying that Luis Mariano sang beautifully well, showing a perfect vocal technique.
This is the most recent video clip I've seen of this wonderful tenor, one of my very favorite singers. Icareh, how did you get to meet him, and what was he like in person? I know you haven't seen him since, but do you have any idea how he's doing now?
Dear rmm413b! Thank you for your message! Sorry for answering so late! Please read above my recent comment to rmm413b above. I hope it will answer your questions. Kindest regards!
dear icareh this video is awesome... gedda is my favourite tenor, indeed he is the best in diction, timbre and interpertation on every roles that he takes.. Do you have interview video of him, or do ypu have web site or link so that I can watch those? thank you
Dear danielBlckz! Thank you for your lovely message! Unfortunately, I have no other interview or video of this greatest artist, as I have not met, nor seen Gedda since when this video was produced, in Switzerland, several years ago (in 2000). Like you, I also consider Nicolai Gedda as one of the most complete, subtle, elegant and aristocratic tenor of all times. And I deeply love his vocal timbre, as well as his beautiful mezza voce. Thank you for your nice comment! Kindest regards!
I´m a Gedda-Fan for more than three decades. He simply was unique, a class by himself. I´ve written a biography about him (in german!). If anyone is interested for this, please contact me. Of course it´s for free!
