Notice the date on this: 2007. This was made before the 2009 H1N1 novel flu, which is much more dangerous to the 4-20 age group than seasonal flu. I have done a lot of searches and as near as I can tell it is still hit-and-miss whether or not you can find a vaccine without the mercury thimerosal.

I got VERY sick from a flu-shot and if I had a child as sick as I was, we would have been in the emergency room. The effects came on fast and took weeks to fully recover.

You guys do what you think is best but be careful. I still give some selective shots, like tetanus to my kids only once they are over 2 years old.

Actually, most available flu vaccines in the US contain the mercury compound thimerosol. Reading through all the FDA-approved vaccine inserts, you would only be free from mercury if you chose a nasal-spray vaccination (i.e. not injected) or one particular single-dose formulation.

Given that the risks associated with most disease vaccines are often greater than the (often exaggerated) risks of the illnesses they are meant to prevent, I fail to see why this would cause "needless worry".

The mercury contained in some flu vaccines is ethylmercury, which is proven entirely safe in the dosage used. It has no negative effect on the immune system but if you can find such an effect, there may be a Nobel Prize in your future. Good luck.
