Nowadays you should just get the i7 930. It is about the same price at least here in Finland it is. And it features a bit higher stock clock speed, which makes overclocking a bit easier. ALSO, it is only D0, so you are guaranteed to get a D0, there never exists such a thing as C0 i7 930 :). Unlike the i7 920. D0 is better.
i just bought the i7 920 (D0) along with Asrock x58 extreme 6gb triple channel 1600mhz ram and i will be using my 2x old superclocked gtx 280's until gtx 480 come out hehe
It's best not to touch the back of your chip not only due to static reasons, but the oil on you finger that can prevent the chip from making good contact with the socket.
That is why you touch a piece of grounded metal before you touch any kind of electrical hardware. My body was perfectly grounded before touching this CPU.
nope a thermal pad is not the paste on intell cooler the thermal pad is the pad u put on ram coolers to stick it to it and it is not as heatconductive D:
Yes it is $199 and Micro Center is a great company. They have some retail stores across the USA. It is a GREAT deal by the way. The 920 is about 100 dollars or more at other places. As far as I know when you place a order online you have to pick it up in a retail store. I don't think they will ship the product to you but I may be wrong.
Not really. The D0 is just a newer revision. If you are planing to overclock the Core i7 920 I would suggest the D0 stepping. It has more overclocking heardroom.
to be honest, when thinking on the price difference (here in Sweden though) it's not worth it, 3.2 ghz vs 3.33..with a simple overclock you have your 965 as fast as the 975 :)
If you get the chanse to get the 965, take it ;)
You can find one in Ebay (in new condition) they have auctions sometimes so you can get it pretty cheap :)

Ok. any experts know the difference between Intel Core i7-920 and i7-860?
860 seems like a clear choice because of the .5ghz extra "max turbo frequency" but other than that, anything different?
Anton338 1 year ago
@Anton338 Unlocked multiplier and its on 1156 motherboards.

You know sometimes when you toach a car and you get a little electric shock. Spark+chip=bye bye few hundred bucks

Does the packaging include thermal paste? Or do i have to buy it separately if i go for the i7?
MicH1g4N 2 years ago
The stock intel cooler comes with thermal paste already applied to the base of the cooler.

what about the intel quad, does that come with thermal paste?
SeeN0More 2 years ago
If it comes with a stock intel cooler there will be thermal paste pre-applied to the stock heatsink base.
