  • What actors/actresses would you like to see in the movie? I can't wait til it comes out!

  • Not only the best cartoon theme, but the best cartoon of all time.

  • Correction: Jets are NOT piloted with steering wheels. Peace.

  • One thing though. Jets are piloted with steering wheels. Peace.

  • Why does Johnny look more like Ace than he does his father?

  • @MrLovecraftri that would be Race! Not Ace

  • @chronofinal it's spelled Jonny because it stands for Jonathan, not John

  • Love this!

  • Hanna Barbera at its best.Great talents..from the writers to the animators to the actors.Pure storytelling and escapism."Race" inspired me to join the military. Classic.

  • How about George Clooney as Race Bannon...and perhaps Liam Neeson as Dr Benton Quest

  • @Monkeymosh And Taco Bell dog as Bandit

  • There's never been a better American cartoon series than the original JQ. It had its limitations, true, and some of its attitudes are certainly dated, but it had Sci-Fi and horror elements cold, great characters, awesome and exotic locales, characters actually DIED in it (as opposed to many cartoons where even walk-on characters jump out of the vehicle before it is blown up, etc.), and other great stuff. If I had to choose one 'toon to watch it would be JQ.

  • I remember this series. They did a great job with it. They did a re-make of it years later, but it was so bad I refused to watch it.

  • RUSTY VENTURE! BROUGHT TO YOU BY ...SMOKING!

  • ABSOLUTE MASTERPIECE

  • I would love to get all the old episodes on DVD..not the remakes either. I think a live action movie would be great as long as they got the right actors

  • @libertycityguy Watch it on Hulu - a lot cheaper

  • Simply the best American cartoon television series of all time. It set the standard for others to reach. Naturally, there are Anime series that surpass it, but there are no American TV series that even come close to this show's animation and writing quality.

They are redoing Jonny Quest as a live-action movie set for release in 2012. It pains me to think what Hollywood will do to it now.

  • @cxj810 yes I hate to guess at what they will turn this into...I thought Land of the Lost would be really made well but what a horrible blunder it was....imo...

  • @cxj810 Jonny Quest wll be killed if they do it live action. Why do they want to touch what's already perfectly wonderful and ruin it.

  • @cxj810 Batman the Animated Series...

    There that outta do it

  • @cxj810 lets just hope they dont put zac effron or someone like that

  • ahhh memories :)

  • Those were the days...

  • Has to be one of the best openings to ANY show on TV, not just a cartoon.

I know it started out as a Thursday night prime time show, but it sure was "adult" for an animated feature. A lot of "Terry and the Pirates" in it.

  • MAKE A MOVIE ABOUT THIS,

  • @Deckardpr This show needs no movie. Have you seen movies made of other cartoons, not always that good.

  • Loved this cartoon sereis! Glad I just recenlty bought the DVD collection for its first and only season. The only disappointment I had was the original ending credits were not restored for the collection. The same end credits for 25 of the 26 episodes were used and the series creator Doug Wildey is not credited on 25 of the 26 episodes because the end credits for "Pursuit of the Po-Ho" are used on all the stories except "Double Danger."

  • Violent Cartoons were awesome

  • Johnny Quest was not one of the best it was the BEST!

  • What boy growing up in the 60's didn't love this show? Great theme music!

  • epic intro!!!

  • i got a few questions:

0:27 <= he killed the mummy, AND the poor man with it?

    why Johnny is spelled "jonny"?

....lastly Hadji is the only character with doesnt have last name...unless u count the dog.....

looking back now, this show was full of racism against asians too XD

    gotta love the 60's

  • @chronofinal ???? uh where did you get that point from....no last name?....you have got to be kidding me...lol

  • @chronofinal Many of these clips were doctored from the way they appeared on air. For ex., Bandit is picked up by the condor not in a desert setting, but in the courtyard of a spooky castle in the Andes. Dr. Zin's walking robot walks not in a desert at high noon, but on the grounds of a military lab compound at night. The ceiling collapsed on the mummy not b/c Race shot it to pieces, but b/c the mummy's victim had fired a pistol over his head into the ceiling just B4 the mummy grabbed him.

  • @chronofinal yea, his name is also RACE BANnON

  • @chronofinal Jonny is spelled that way because of the lack of the letter "h" in his name. His full name is "Jonathan Quest", note how there is no h where there is usually one. I actually think the way it was spelled made it special, since most people are named Johnathan, except Jon Arbunkle from Garfield.

My sources are how much I love watching this cartoon.

  • @chronofinal

These are clips from the show all put together to create the title sequence, which means that they aren't all from the same episodes. The man was actually killed because he (the man) shot the ceiling of the temple sevreal times before the mummy picked him up. Therefore it caused the ceiling to cave in.

  • @chronofinal An answer to the supposed racism. . .Vietnam.

  • The most awesome cartoon intro of all time. I used to fight with my sisters Saturday morning over the time slot when this came on, who got to watch our only tv.

  • I loved this as a kid. The Robot Spy was my favorite episode. I loved how most of the villans on the show were "Evil Orientals".

  • @eddievenegas Yeah, they were either that or "Russian" types. My favorite episode was probably The Invisible Monster--always reminded me of the id monster from Forbidden Planet. Give me this show and Lost in Space and I had it made.

  • With all that danger lurking around, it's amazing Johnny made it to be a teenager

  • Look at their eyes at the end there: The causal sideways glances from each character, "yeah we're pimps, we know it." It's like the Rat Pack.

  • @fredo18ify I have concluded that this scene was actually an early animation test -- note that each character's head moves, only, and in each case such that you can see both sides (aspects -- R and L) -- of the head. It has nothing to do with homosexual innuendo, the introduction of which wouldn't have been likely to have been thought of then -- at a minimum, b/c the early-60s audience wouldn't have picked up on it at all. It is surely a different world we live in now.

  • @50zcarsman Well that makes sense; I wasn't implying that much; just the ultre-chic music and the casualness makes it seem like the original Ocean's Eleven or something. Of course who would know about this show nowadays without the Venture Bros, with every innuendo in the book. Ah, today's television! heavy nostalgia bent into the modern mold.

  • This brings back a lot of memories!

  • soo sad that people now a days make shit cartoons 90's cartoons will remain a legend for ever

  • @ghostpinguin I got news for you. This was from the 60's.

  • Anybody attempt a body count by that "wacky" serial killer Race Banner?

  • Jonny Quest has the greatest soundtrack to any TV show EVER.

  • Bandit was the star.

  • Bons tempos...

  • Hey how did you get this recording ? I tried a couple of years ago and it was blocked. Good job man.

  • How I miss the 60s..great cartoons and waking up in the morning to go downstairs, grab a bowl of cereal and eat in front of the tv set.

  • You know that this is a great cartoon... just cause you have the cool Jazz drums beating on the opening...

  • this show features (among others) 'Hadji' which is what all American soldiers call Iraqis.

  • @jclarencelove3rd Those soldiers are IGNORANT rednecks, then. If you knew anything about Johnny Quest... you'd KNOW Hadji is East Indian, NOT Iraqi. You say ALL American soldiers? NO, most American soldiers don't follow YOUR stupidity. Don't insult American soldiers like that.

  • @msm2you Hoyt was the man. If you'e interested in what some of his more "pop" music sounds like, he did the horn and orchestral arrangements on the album "Queen of Siam" by Lydia Lunch. It's fantastic.

  • Hadji!

  • I used to love this show! Easily one of the best tv shows ever.

  • Gotta love Hanna Barbera! R.I.P Joe and William.

  • Unfortunately, there will never be another cartoon this good. Everything is either vapid crud or full of wise asses who aren't very smart.

  • @crispycritterz except for the Venture Bros, which is based on JQ and is FREAKIN' awesome!!!

  • @orchidtender Well, the two can't really be compared. Venture Bros. is a comedy (at one time it was a satire of JQ, but no more,) while JQ is a pure drama/action/adventure show. It was never intended to be a children's show. Even then, there were those who worked to establish that just because something is animated does not make it a kids show. There are many who still think like it's the 50's and that animation is for kids. Eventually they'll figure out that it is not always the case.

  • how many people love this show because of Venture Brothers?

  • when I was a kid Jonny Quest was my herot. I wanted Hadji as my best friend and Bandit as my puppy. I used to make my friends pretend we were all in jungles or trying to save the world, using my dad's 65 buick skylark as our jet.

  • Im getting it DVD very soon.

  • Wow! this takes me way back! I was hooked on this show!

  • I bought my father the entire box set.

  • One of the true classics in animation. The characters were smart, the episodes were well written, and the music score fantastic. The cartoon holds up because it is quality, plain and simple. What a shame it was on the air for only a season. I stayed up to watch it , and it turned out to be the new adventures of jonny quest. It felt like being at Disney's gate waiting for it to open and then find out they will be closed. Anyway, a great cartoon and my grandson now watches it on YouTube.

  • quand j etais petite je l adore isabel.

  • Inspired by radio serials and comics in the action-adventure genre, it featured more realistic art, characters, and stories than Hanna-Barbera's previous cartoon programs. It was the first of several Hanna-Barbera action-based adventure shows – which would later include Space Ghost, The Herculoids, and Birdman and the Galaxy Trio – and ran on ABC in prime time on early Friday nights for one season in 1964–1965.

  • Real Adventures back in the LATE 90's sucked ... this was 10,000,000 more times bedda.

  • I actually kind of liked Real Adventures back in the early 90's. But this show was one of the greatest ever, Race is the man!

  • Love the intro music? It's jazz and it's still unique to this day. No other show used jazz so effectively.

  • @htc6600 Jazz was used in many 60s cartoon ... WTF! ... Spiderman for example.

  • Actually, all the cartoons they made modern versions of sucked. The two worst of the worst were Jonny Quest and Speed Racer. What made Jonny Quest (1964) cool was the music. The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest had a good opening, but they went too into the the 3-D like graphics and virtual reality theme.

  • THE REAL ADVENTURES IS GARBAGE! Yes, YOU HEARD ME RIGHT! An absolute *** compared to the original Quest!

The Venture Bros are cool, but the original Jonny is much better. Here, you have violence, giant invisible and scary monsters, robot spiders, Dr. Zin threatening lifes, "KILL TURU, KILL!", villains dying each week, people blowing up, tell me sincerely what cartoon show these days offers you that?

You can't beat the classics, baby, no matter how hard you try! THUMBS UP FOR JONNY QUEST 1964!

  • @TVSeries21000 You're right! All the characters of modern cartoons are pure retarded instead of skillful and smart like the classic cartoons.

  • God! What I wouldn't have given to be Johnny Q. The 2 min intro score is without doubt the finest compsoition to ever be composed.

  • Cool! I can't wait until Hollywood rapes this show with a shitty remake! /sarcasm/

  • Was Race Bannon inspired by Lee Marvin, with his bad-ass-ness and white hair?

  • bad ass cartoon , probably my favorite !

  • I love the art style of the original '60s series. Benton Quest and Race Bannon are the forefathers of Gordon Freeman and Duke Nukem.

  • i hate that parents complain about violence on a science fiction cartoon ! wanna see violence ? go to new york unarmed holding a big wadda cash in the bronx !

  • the only reason we don't have cartoons like these anymore is because we have made the ''bizarre'' electronics on the show .

  • JONNY QUEST live-action film has been in "development-hell" for a few years now. Will be awesome if directed by Cameron or Spielberg, with music by John Williams, SPFX by ILM.

  • 0:59 - Beavis :P

  • pterodactyls, Gi's shooting a 30 caliber, jungle natives, tanks fighting giant robot spiders, lazer guns, what didnt this show have? loved it as a kid

  • My favorite cartoon from the 60's! Thanks for the memories!

  • Can't wait to see what Warner Bros is gonna do with this!

  • Hey, :45 seconds it was Rusty Venture with hair! ~LOL~

  • @SirMac27 Venture brothers is a LAME imitation of this show. It is so obvious, Race Bannon... cool name, so VB comes up with Brock Sampson?? What a pale imitation of Jonny Quest. Nothing beats the toons of the 60s, 70s, and 80s.

  • @boofdfast

Absolutely an imitation. Lame? I don't think so. Funny as hell? Yes! Its satire, having Johnny appear on episodes, Race getting killed while on assignment one season and his dying wish was for Brock to finish his work for him...I just like how Dr. Venture is modeled after Dr. Quest!

  • @SirMac27 Jonny and Race appeared on that show? Interesting. That's an episode I would like to see. The thing that irks me about VB is that stupid yellow Monarch guy and his pre-op transsexual girlfriend, with a guy's voice. WTF, is that all about? Talk about creepy. lol

  • Ah. Just seen that the closing credits are here too. Nostalgia heaven!

  • @justlettersandnumber 0:52 i just realized that the jet looks like a flying Syringe. I miss this show!

  • @STBNY That interpretation was lost on me in nineteen whenever! I just love being able to find stuff like this and Bonanza and Whirlibirds and all those shows I grew up with. Off to hunt down Lost in Space now. 'Warning, Will Robinson...'

  • @justlettersandnumber I would love to get series of these cartoons on DVD. that would be the day. :D

  • @STBNY watch the cartoon station "Boom" they show it every night....

  • @TonyBeazley already there, dude :D..its like boomerang brought Hanna Barbera back to life.

  • I used to watch this in the 1960s, but I'm sure it had different music in the UK. Or perhaps I'm remembering the music that accompanied the closing credits. Wasn't there a sequence where 'natives' threw spears at the closing door of Quest's rocket?

  • I love the part where the frog-man shoots the laser and Dr. Quest is like, "Bitch, you call that a laser?!"

  • Ok. let's picture a "Dream Movie Cast" for a Jonny Quest film... I'd say Liam Neeson would be perfect for the role of Dr. Benton Quest, who else can we add to this ideal Jonny Quest flick?

  • @elpatronhimself Daniel Craig for Race

  • Where'sthe stinger?~!

  • The movie 'Jonny Quest' is supposed to be in the works as we speak but I think it has a different title. I'd really love to see a actually play this number!

  • The movie 'Jonny Quest' is supposed to be in the works as we speak but I think it has a different title.

  • Walking eye!

  • @forkliftkiller That thing gave me nightmares as a kid! LMAO!

  • The best horns in a cartoon theme show! awesome..

  • Probably the best action/adventure cartoon still to this day.

  • Best Big Band Jazz tune ever!!! It spends all of its brass and holds nothing back!! And the trombone solo is the grinchiest.

  • Good Cartoon

God Bless William Hanna and Joe Barbera!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Back then, and even now, this music always got my heart pounding. We used to act it all out, because JQ was without a doubt the coolest kid ever.

Even if his video phone was clunky by today's standards, he had one in the '60s.

Oh yeah, and a jetpack. Snapshot of cool.

  • The part with the mummy making the door explode hahaha fucking awesome

  • Thank God!!! (that I was a kid during those days)

  • if they had to bail out of the plane and there were only 4 parachutes, hadji would be the one without a parachute.

    that is beyond dispute!

  • @baddmanaz but he had magic.... :)

  • @baddmanaz

BEST them music to a cartoon, EVER..

  • @baddmanaz He'd just levitate! "Sim sim salbim!"

  • @berserkley exactly!!

  • Best cartoon ever, simple as that.

  • Race bannon set up the model for man's man

  • The walking eye flinches when it's being shot at!

  • You got to LOVE the jazzinest (if there were such a word) of the music. They did an outstanding job with theme music in the old school Jonny Quest.

  • @max2082 it was incredible hip music...

  • @max2082 You bet! Kudos to Hoyt Curtin for such a great theme!

  • While my friends watched Power Rangers and Pokemon I was busy watching Jonny Quest. I watched "REAL" violence not people kicking the air or throwing monsters at each other and over reacting. EVERY Jonny Quest episode was well made and never ceased in action and fun.

  • The Robot Spider episode was an integral part of my childhood. I will never forget it.

  • @Crossbones6732 That is actually my favorite episode next to teh Frogmen episode.

  • Jonny's hair turned up years later, on Beavis.

  • This cartoon back in the day was awesome. Like they show Violence, Religion, Smoking, Guns, and Deaths. The Now Cartoons they censor them with flashing punches, non-believers, lolipops or toothpicks, laser weapons, and "Mysterious Vanishings" and not to forget: LIVE-ACTION SHOWS (how the fuck Cartoon Network have Live-Action shows when they have the word CARTOON on it and Adult Swim don't count) I also love the closing of this show cuz of the Lizardmen got crushed by the boat and the theme song

  • This is the only cartoon from that era in which people actually got killed. In all the others characters could get blown up, be shot, or fall off of a cliff and still live.

  • I loved this toon as a kid in the 60's. I really hope, if it's going to be a live action

movie, they don't mess it up like so many live action 60's cartoon remakes that

didn't measure up to the originals. a recent example would be the disastrous

    remake of Underdog.

  • That show was the epidome of epic! Benton Quest = forerunner of Gordon Freeman. Race Bannon = forerunner of Duke Nukem. I always liked the '60s series better than the '80s series.

  • This intro was badass!!! The cutscenes, the music! It's a shame that such a good cartoon isn't aired anymore.

  • I was born in 1964. My earliest memories of childhood revolve around this show. Watching JQ meant I was either jacked up on high adventure or "peaking out" from underneath a pillow in absolute fear. I must have been around 3 or 4 years old the first time I watched The Invisible Monster episode. Scared the shit out of me for years. The sound effects for the monster would send shiver up and down my spine.

  • This is THE best cartoon intro, though MASK, GI JOE, Thundercats, ROBOTECH all tie for 2nd. The reason they're not making a movie is because HB knows whoever does it will massacre it and ruin it.

  • Silly it may be, but I'm the only daughter in a family of boys and we could hardly wait for the latest episode of Jonny Quest, besides the fact that today's knowledge makes viewing the old episodes even better. Besides to think that Tim 'Animal House' Matheson did the voice of Jonny Quest makes me laugh every time!!!

  • MASTER PIECE!

  • This is from the time where there were good shows to watch on T.V...

  • Cool show. It was only on for a year. I was really bummed out when it was cancelled.

  • @MStock57 they still show it nightly on Boomerang on cable at 12 am eastern.....I've recorded them all...

  • @MStock57 HB canceled this show 'cause they were too many complaints from parents worried about its violence. Yep. Media watchdogs aren't born with G. I. Joe & Transformers.

Sad really. It's probably the best cartoon ever made by this studio. Not the first time Art has been sacrificed in the temple of family values & not the last.

  • Cartoons used to be "smart", this one was based on science fiction, getting kids to think, to actually become curious about something and possibly learn something new... Now cartoons have no soul, no substance to them... Kids become braindead drones... But they already know how to use a condom at 13.... Whoop-dee-doo!

  • Wish they made more Johnny Quest episodes... I have 4 disks with all the episodes on them... and the movie is super hard to find...

  • I... suddenly understand why Venture Bros. had to be made. Wow.

  • Rocket packets, tv phones, hovercrafts, wow I see where apple get there ideas from.

You gotta love the animated engineers on this show. I hope it's made into a movie like the Indiana Jones series. Lucas & Spielberg are you listening.

  • @kleyon11 yeah they should really patent their equipment drawings in those shows...even the government has taken a few things from all these sci fi movies too....glad to see someone else notices they are getting ripped off...

  • @TonyBeazley Warner Bros. has announced that the live-action "Jonny Quest" film is in production and is expected for a release in 2012. I hear that Jonny will be a 20 something actor.

  • @hanoc101 very cool ...I just hope they do it justice!!!!

  • @TonyBeazley It isn't that hard. It's like Indiana Jones, just make it a kick ass adventure, No love story, little character development, just make it an adventure.

  • @Tkscz Yes!!!!

  • @hanoc101 i'm sure it'll suck big time and we'll all be compaining about it, these people in hollywood seem to be getting worse all the time

  • @lowaces You are right, I'm afraid.

  • @hanoc101

I always thought Liam Neeson sounded like Dr. Quest. Not sure how a movie will pan out, but if I were casting I'd get Liam...... and yeah, I'd have THIS theme song too.

  • @knightflyte I hear that Jonny will be played by a 20 something actor. If true, that sucks. He and Hadji need to be boys.

  • @kleyon11 Since when have Lucas & Spielberg done things that were good ideas lately?

  • @kleyon11 You know buddy. A Johny Quest movie isn't a bad idea but we already being fed with way too much remakes & reboots already. It'ld be better to let this franchise in our memories...... At least as long as J.J. Abrams, Jerry Bruckheimer & Michael Bay will stay around.

  • @Densaku Yeah, I know it probably won’t happen but I kind-a-wish I could see JQ on the big screen with his white PF flyers, blue denim jeans & black cotton turtle neck. Flying to exotic locals around the world on humanitarian, diplomatic, scientific mission. Testing out Dr. Quest’s hi-tech toys and eventually combating their arch-rival Dr. Zin. Maybe I'll write it, "Johny Quest & the lloch Ness, Abominable Dr. Zin, Alien, Gargoyle, Energy Monster Mission". Well it’s in it’s early stages:-)

  • @kleyon11 The time to make the movie is long gone ... should of been made in the 60s or the latest early 80s .... please, no remakes.

  • the cartoon fit in well with the times of the 60s, and music was on point, it was a little bit more heavy compared to the the jetson and the flintsontes, but this show as the shi%

  • This was the only cartoon that would keep me inside on a Saturday morning.

  • Venture Brothers always reminds me of this show.

  • thank God the WMG hasn't shut down your clip like they have countless others on JQ

  • @AngryAgain I had to send them a rebuttal about it..... but you're right....

  • This cartoon was way ahead of it's time, a TIMELESS classic!!!

I miss the good old days of cartoon network where CGI didn't have a say in the matters.
