  • naw,I don't think it is possible.photons and electrons and"gravitons" are theoretically no mass ,100%energy; so for us might be only our thoughts or souls to reach or pass that speed.you ,CARL ,are passed us.RIP hope we shall meet you again somewhere in time...

  • 1:26 Weeeeeeeeee

  • I dont get, if he would travel at the speed of light (186.000 m p/s) wouldnt he leave the earth within an instant and fly through space on his scooter ? Or if he'd manage to stay grounded circle the earth a couple of times in one second ? What if a bug or a bird hits him, wouldnt that feel like a bullet ? How in hell would he survive anything like that ?

  • @manwithouthat44 He would not be able to stay grounded... He would shoot of in a straight line... He would melt due to the friction from the air before he even leaves the atmosphere in a small fraction of a second...

  • Reminds me of that powerpuff girls episode

  • COPS WONT CATCH HIM.

  • @akwinata1 Thanks for the offer, but I think I'll stick with Science and Reason.

  • this video basically sums up how you can time travel, only problem is it is impossible for an inanimate object to move at such speeds

  • TWIN PARADOX!! :D :D :D I AM A PART OF THE PARADOX BRANCH OF T.I.M.E! NOT THE MAGAZINE! CARL SAGAN ROX!

  • Awesome! I love Carl Sagan's "Cosmos"! I couldn't watch it if I was at my grandparents, because they are deeply religious Christians, but at that young age, I just wanted to learn about astronomy and cosmology. I have about 20+ books on astronomy/cosmology. Some are missing, or are so old, I doubt I could find any new ones. Carl is so inspiring to the human race! Carl Sagan is a legend! "Heroes get remembered, but legends never die..." This quote came from the movie "Sandlot". I find this true!

  • where are the cops?? this is ridiculous!!

shoul get a ticket at least.

  • "OH SO NOW YOU BRING THE MILK!! OH YEAH THANKS"

  • RIP CARL

  • ya but wuch speed of light? i now that blue light go faster then blue light.. i wonder if he paint one side of is boody red then the other blue, if he is gona rip in half... that wuld be sad for the guy that try...

  • ok, so if i under stand.. going faster disnt make you move faster.... so now im gona go and swich my SSC Aero for a little smart.. thats wy thay call it a smart XD

  • That speeding ticket would NOT be fun to pay off.

  • @ic4llshotgun that if they can catch u. if cops are on ur tail, then just head for the sun, it'll only take u 7 mins to get there, while that the morons chasing u will take 17 yrs in the worlds fastest jet. lol

  • speed of light = distance in space. and time???

time = ??? time to read it? or it was already here as the speed of light travel in time ;)

Space = points a,b,c,d e,f,g,h (cube) with no time. like frozen?

Distance = point "A to B" in Space.

From this videos : The most bizar thing is the time slow down.

  • lol, his brother must of had some life!

  • If he was driving at the speed of light and then turned on the front lights on his bike, what would happen? XD

  • @Martinah123

He would see the light leave his headlight at the speed of light. But we would see the light barely crawling out of the headlight, and he and his bike would be frozen in time. He, we, and everybody else, would always agree that light moves at the speed of light, and nothing is faster.

And we would also see that he and his bike are squished flatter than paper in the direction of motion and weigh millions of tons. As he slows down he stretches out and goes back to normal weight.

  • @Martinah123 From his relative frame of reference, the light would move away at its normal, speed-of-light, speed. To an impartial observer in an absolute frame of reference, both his bike and the light would be moving at the speed of light.

  • @Martinah123 - " If he was driving at the speed of light and then turned on the front lights on his bike, what would happen ? "

One has to keep in mind that this kid on the bike/speed of light scenario is a " thought experiment ". Strange things happen at the speed of light. At the speed of light, the kid on the bike would have infinite mass. And it would take infinite energy to get to the speed of light. But the short answer is the headlight would operate normally - if it still worked

  • lol thats not the speed of light thats so slow

  • asshole. you couldnt take your brother with u?

  • Big fan of cosmos.

Is there a more high definition video explanation of lightspeed with visual aids like this one?

  • In appreciation! Yet, traveling at the speed of thought works good too!

  • WTF is this?

  • @VegetaSasuke89 It's from Carl Sagan's legendary PBS series on astronomy and cosmology, which first aired in 1980. That, in turn, was based on Sagan's book by the same name.

The best part about it, apart from the fabulous science, is the beepingness of the sound.

    SCIENCE!

  • OMGGG. THATS SO COOL!

  • his little brother staying there for decades without food or water? he is my new hero

  • if everyone pondered the implications of riding a moped near the speed of light the world would be a better place

  • @cunnelatio It would certainly be a more educated place, riders travelling near the speed of light in opposite directions colliding might discover the elusive Higgs boson.

  • You can see the Doppler effect on a busy street as car lights are bluish white when they are coming towards you and red-shifted when going away.

  • @857frank Impossible. The speed of a car at 100 km/h is only 1 to 10^7 of the speed of light.

  • oh gosh my brain hurts.

  • Thanks for Carl Sagan for explaining things easily for people like us.

  • i have just started to looking in to this sort of thing, but my understanding is that. the stationary observer "sees" you traveling at the speed, but do to time dilation, you "see" your self traveling faster speed=distance/time. the only variable that is changed between a stationary observer and some one traveling is time. t'=t/sqr(1-v²/c²)

  • So, in other words...

Paolo's brother doesn't get his turn on the scooter.

    Selfish bastard.

  • Another point I forget. I always thought that if we traveled just at the speed of light away from the earth towards a star for one year, we would see the star change very rapidly, and the earth would seem to be frozen instead.

If we repeated the same process when returning to earth, the star would seem to be frozen, and the earth would change at double of the normal speed. When we reached it, everything would be two years older, but we would be two years older as well.

    Am I missing something?

  • @EduEnYT your wrong at the end, if you traveled at the speed of light and it took 1 light year to reach the star, you would have aged about a year, but when you travel back to earth again, people would would have aged about 10 years

  • @0Petercool0 Actually people on Earth would have only aged 2 years. Theoretically if the traveler was going the speed of light, he/she wouldn't have aged a second.

  • @EduEnYT Photons have a null weight (0).

Talking about "if we were at speed of light" are contradicting the laws.

Because it will need an infinite energy to reach it with your mass.

Saying that u could go at speed of light would be teleporting yourself.

  • this is strange for me. I mean, light is just photons. If we have a star that is 2 light years away from us, and we see it explode, in reality the explosion happened 2 years ago, but we see it now. If in an instant we traveled to a point between that star and ours, and we met people from that place, they would tell us that they saw the explosion one year ago.

    Am I right?

  • also, wouldnt everything behind you be colorless?

no light could catch you no electromagnetic waves at all

  • if you could theoreticly travel the speed of light, then wouldnt that double the speed of light thats coming towards you?

like your on the highway and your going 100km/h and so is a car going the other way, isnt that that same as an object traveling 200km/h at a stationary object?

so then wouldnt the wavelengths shorten? and the frequency of light increase?

wouldnt that make time travel impossible?

i have no idea just curious.

if you have an answer i would love to ehar it.

  • since when does a vespa travel at the speed of light?

  • how do you determine who is actually moving or does it not matter?

like if something was moving the speed of light in space and something was just sitting still then both would think to each other that the other one is moving so im lost as to when time actually slows down.

  • Light speed is understood to be a constant, but it could be possible that it isn't a constant for all time in this Universe.

  • then it wouldnt be called a constant ..

light had to be a constant even at the beginning of the universe when temperature was 10*23 degrees ......temperature is just a measure of how often particles bump into eachother and exchange photons , so their speed didnt really had to do with the temp itself ...

even when the EM force and the weak force where unified light is still calculated to been a constant ..its just 1 of thoose things ...

and the modern explanation is the higgs mechanism

  • Variable Speed of Light (VSL) is a theory I don't subscribe to, but I have been considering it a possibility for this Universe.

  • the best theory we have about why it cant go any slower is the higgs mechanism

since the photon never interacts with the higgs it always maintains its speed ...

when travelling throo air we say light is lower but in fact the photons are always moving at light speed , the reason it seems slower is that its absorbed by atoms and looses time inside ...but in between atoms it always moves at c.

  • we dont know the mechanism u fucking moron ..why do u thin everyone is looking for a quantum theory of gravity?

we just know it happens and its been prooven.

unlike religion we dont assume we know everything...

i dont expect someone if your iq to understand this...

  • Bitch, this is precisely what religion is all about. There is a world of difference between not knowing something and blindly assuming something. Since you are a fuckwit of epic proportions I too don't expect you to understand this.

  • @sidewaysfcs0718 well said, im sick off idiots trying to undermine science

  • im not gonna reply to this video since u are just talking about pseudo science and trolling.

  • Bwhahahaha. This is your retort when backed into a corner?

    quote

    sidewaysfcs0718 (2 days ago)

    "wikipedia bitch "

    Who was trolling??

  • u actually want me to explain special relativity?

ok ... special relativity in a nutshell is this

everything in the universe is moving at light speed , but because of time dilation and compression things appear to move at different speeds to different observer

    the only exception is light

light always moves at c from any possible observer at any possible speed

that means if u are moving at half light speed or are standing still ...both people will see light moving at c.

  • Did I ask for a layperson's intro to SRT? I asked the MECHANISM for relativistic effects. How does time dilate? How does mass increases with velocity? How does things contract with speed? Got any of the answers??

  • i guess u can travel to future

  • Both gravitational time dilation and special relativity are needed to explain the Hafele-Keating experiment on time dilation using precise measurements of clocks flown in airplanes.

    wikipedia bitch

  • Ha. what does that prove?? It merely proves at higher altitudes and higher energies cesium atoms vibrate slower . The small brain you possess won't be able to comprehend that obviously. Thats why you resort to petty insults. And I know twin paradox and it arises because of STR is trash.

And you can google Extinction shift effect and Sagnac effect both which stand against relativity. In fact there are satellites which do not make use of Relativistic corrections idiot.

  • no.

at higher altitudes ..at higher speeds ...doesnt matter in what conditions cesium atoms always virbate at the same rate ..its a measured rate.

but when u compare it from 2 journeys at different speeds u get a paradox ..thats time dilation

in fact the GPS works only cus this happens.

please go learn some science ..this is 9th grade material.

  • its called a paradox for a reason

if u are moving at any speed at any altitude ..if u measure how many times a cesium atom vibrates per second its always 9 billion ...

and if someone else is standing still its the same damn number ..however ur atomic clocks run at different

so if both atoms vibrate 9bil times per second but they arent in sync when u come back ..time dilated ..the atoms never slowed down cus u where always measuring them

    time is whats changing.

  • Look here man. Einstein was misled when he thought that speed of light never changes. In fact it does. The velocity of light is c+v in one direction and c-v in other but it APPEARS to not change because there are atoms in between the source and observer of light which resets the velocity of light back to c. This is called the extinction shift effect. The time dilation postulate hence is wrong since speed of light itself is not a constant.

  • ur even making any sense?

    now light isnt constant?

PLEASE go back to school and learn science.

  • Dude stfu if you can't even string together an english sentence grammatically correct.

People could care less what you have to say on here and some people actually want to learn something and might have different opinions or thoughts about stuff. So go back to watching Conjunction Junction, learn how to spell, and fucking blow each and every one of us that to argue with your bitch ass.

  • Yes thats what I'm precisely saying that speed of light is not constant but appears to be constant. But this will go way above your head. So don't bother. Google extinction shift if you really want to learn.

  • i searched it ...its all bullshit...

please for the love of physics go bakc to school ..ur just making a fool of yourself.

  • The only fool here is you. And learn to spell idiot.

  • i like ur attempts at trolling this brilliant video ...now shut up .

  • Since you are such a wanker to relativity why don't you enlighten all of us by giving the mechanism for time dilation. Cmon bitch put your physics where your mouth is.

  • It's all relative.

Let's say person A is moving at the speed of light moving passed person B moving slightly slower.

Person A perceives person B moving as fast as he's coming while person B perceives Person A moving just as fast as his own speed at that moment in time.

  • This has been disproven with the experiment with two simultaneous beams of light traveling opposite and parallel to the Earth's direction of revolution around the Sun. It didn't matter because at the end they both ended up meeting at the same spot at the same time.

  • I didn't get you. What has been disproven?? Are you talking about the 1887 Michelson Morley experiment?

  • @anuraganimax

    watch?v=ZMdpyisUraY

The coriolis effect of Earth's rotation and revolution around the Sun would have slowed down one beam or bent it so that they would not have ended up at the same spot at the same time. If the Aether idea that was popular at the time was correct then beam passing back parallel to the direction of Earth's revolution around the sun would also be longer resulting in the same mismatch in ending times. Either way the two beams should have mismatched. They did not.

  • @technatezin:

Every experiment done, to my knowledge, except for one have forgotten to take the phenomenon of extinctions into account. Meaning to remove the disturbing atoms between source and detector of light while ascertaining the invariance of c. The only experiment where you can see that classical Newtonian motion can indeed affect c is the sagnac effect.

  • @anuraganimax Nope. The sagnac effect simply confirms STR because the effects occurred in a non-relativistic inertial reference frame. As for "disturbed" atoms, the effects of em waves and electricity travel at c even if subatomic particles like protons and electrons can be slowed down or random walk through the material in question. Ask yourself why thin wires get hot with high voltage, but you'll still get shocked at the speed of light regardless of the thickness of the conductor.

  • @technatezin: I'll disagree with you again. The shifting of interference fringes in Sagnac effect show that the speed of light is not the same in both directions ie c+v in one and c-v in other otherwise the effect would not occur. You probably didn't get me, I wasn't talking about this sort of "disturbing" of the atoms. I was talking about emission and re-emission of light when it encounters an obstacle(any atom).

  • @anuraganimax "c+v in one and c-v in other otherwise the effect would not occur"

Uh, no. because you are accelerating in a circle at constant velocity which makes what you are seeing simply another example of the Doppler effect. At constant velocity in a straight line which is really what is meant by "zero" acceleration you will not see the Doppler effect. You are simply canceling out different frequencies of light, but not providing any definitive proof of +v or -v being added to c.

  • There is no doppler in sagnac. See the Wikipedia page on sagnac, it is clearly written that doppler cancels out.

  • The effect has been verified experimentally using precise measurements of clocks flown in airplanes.

atomic clocks can not "retard" ...since a cesium atom always provides the same amount of photon emissions per second ...almost 9 billion emissions ..this number never changes regardless of speed ...

so if both planes clocks are in sync ..and yet the planes are travelling at different speed ..or 1 clock in on the ground ..the clocks become out of sync becuase time is passing at a diff rate.

  • What do people see win they die... Some thing like this...

  • Ok so I get why, if a light source were travelling toward you and beaming light towards you, the velocity of the light would still be c, basically because the time would slow down for the light from your point of view, BUT WHY, IF THE THE SOURCE WERE MOVING AWAY FROM YOU WHILE IT BEAMED THE LIGHT AT YOU, WOULDN'T THE LIGHT APPEAR SLOWED FROM YOUR POINT OF VIEW? TIME FOR THE LIGHT WOULD STILL APPEAR SLOWED TO YOU, WOULD IT NOT? AND IF SO, WOULDN'T THIS ADD TO THE SLOWING OF THE LIGHT? PLEASE HELP

  • Time dilation is a myth. What happens is clock retardation nothing more nothing less. Physicists should use their head more.

  • wrong, what happens when you go to sleep? How long does it feel like and why can we see things in our dreams? Just so you know, this has a lot to do with traveling at the speed of light. Einstein was brilliant and not many people accepted the idea of time dilation. People have actually tested the theory of time dilation and it was a success; having two clocks, one on the ground and one on a plane traveling faster than the speed of light. Less time passed on the plane than the other clock

  • Sorry man but relativistic effects such as time dilation have NEVER been verified. What is verified is clock retardation only. No one has ever been on a relativistic object and or seen one. Accepting the irrational and bizzare over the rational is one of the reason that physics lies in utter confusion today.

  • ever heard of the GPS u moron?

  • google the twin paradox u uneducated moron.

  • are u retarded? a plane cant fly faster than light ....u are correct it has been verified ..but u completely failed to explain it ...ur giving scientists a bad name by making false claims.

  • Jesus dude, sorry i was wrong wtf that doesn't mean I'm retarded. It's something I heard one day, nothing else. And get your damn spelling straight if you're gonna criticize my reasoning.

  • i didnt call u a retard ..i was to a guy who thinks clocks "retard" and thinks time dilation is a myth.

  • Dude, you clearly replied to my comment, i saw it in my inbox.

  • must of misclicked.

  • i can just imagine the older brother asking him

" DID U GET THE MILK ??? TOOK U LONG ENOUGH FUCKER !!!!!!!!!!!"

  • Carl Sagan.... The Mr. Rogers of Science.

  • LOL so true

  • I think the kid should slow down, someones going to get hurt!!

  • Ok, riding a bike on LSD is sure fun.

  • @dualboxingwowrussian :Drug infested ....,roach, rat. toad.turd; shit I just ran out of adjetives. Ur comment was long ago. u prolly dead alrady, by a God's favor. Anyway, Physics is not what you do with the waste of lfe that you are, u fucking pieceof shit piss ant mother fucker!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hate drug users so much I am willing to die if they all die in a fraction of a nanosecond!!

  • @dualboxingwowrussian that would have been something special.

  • if nasa could build a rocket that went a million lightyears a second id tell them to shoot me strait out into space. and about a thousand years later id come back still kicken it you guys are all dead and forgot about me. and china done took over every thing else

  • hey this is pretty cool i had tunnel vison on my old yamaha yz 250 dirtbike it looked like i was goin through a tunnel for a slit second on take off. and when i stopped my buddies were all growed up and was like wtf man where u been i was like ridin the dirtbike man

  • I saw this when the series came out in '82 and it's stuck with me all these years

  • Nice effects there.

  • i love happy endings

  • Agent Smith!

  • Travel at light speed wouldn't work. I mean, it would be great, but if we wanna travel through the space we need A LOT more than that. Space is so.... infinit... I hate that :-(

  • mabye a million light years a second then we'd get sumwhere

  • @mufflerbearin a million light years per second? Heh, you'd be well into the medium of intergalactic space.

  • this video is irrelevant to the speed of light. he is just using a motorcycle that moves a little bit faster than a turtle waiting for an apple to fall at his mouth. a light moves infinitely speed of light moves in an infinite way where the gravitational force is least to be considered. light has no mass and weight so it moves faster than anything with mass and wieght and therefore it is impossible to create things that moves faster than light in our world ight is infinite.

  • my vw bug goes close to the speed of light..that is when i give her an oil change

  • Hehe my old 1963 Beetle would have moved at the speed of light... if the speed of light was 40km/h :p Still loved it though.

  • LMAO! now thats a clever comment

  • what is faster then the speed of gravity?

  • anything going faster than it would normally in freefall

  • None of this is a fact of the Lorentz-Fitzgerald equation. Keep in mind the equation does not suggest that the contraction at almost light speed is actual or just cosmetic. It just says zero as in 0 at light speed. Einstein simply assumed the contraction was real instead of cosmetic. He was wrong.

  • "Einstein was wrong"

    Guy on YouTube

  • what they never mention is something I learned in school many years ago, that objects traveling at speeds close to the speed of light shrink as far as I can remember... Interesting about the blue and red he sees.

  • the faster u r 2 light speed, the slower time goes by, if ur moving at the speed of light time stops. so while driving somwere time goes slower then just sitting down. try not to think of that while on a long drive

  • time travel is impossible. why? SIMPLE! you cannot travel something that doesnt exist. Time is nothing more than a word we use to describe the passing and length of days.

Think about it. its much simpler than these stupid "thinkers" make it out to be. People believe what the WANT to believe. And if they find it not to be true, they find ways around it and alter reality until their opinions become facts in their own little circle of theories and lies.

  • Wow. You've just added nothing to the conversation. You obviously have little to no education on a topic remotely related to relativity/physics/science. Thank you for wasting space in this comment section.

  • lol do you read your own comments before you post them? maybe you should start thinking before you speak, cuz seriously...

  • @CalebTheGuitarist What do you mean time doesn't exist? Of course it does and it behaves as another dimension.

"Time is Nature's way of ensuring that everything does not happen all at once."

  • are you implying nature is intelligent? has a mind of its own???? what exactly do you mean when you say "nature's way"?

time doesnt exist. its just word we use to describe length of days and hours. its a made-up word. whats happened has happened.

saying "time travel" is just as stupid as saying "i can travel through infiniti". see how that makes absolutely NO sense??? the very idea of it is just stupid. makes no sense at all

neither does "time travel". its a stupid, MADE UP IDEA. get over it

  • @CalebTheGuitarist You moron, when did I say nature was intelligent? I was quoting somebody.

Tell me, what are your qualifications to say ANYTHING about time and whether it exists or not? Are YOU a physicist? Have YOU dedicated an entire lifetime or career to the study of such? Yea, didn't think so. So shut up.

  • @opiates

rofl. i love it.i know you were quoting someone you idiot. but the fact that you quoted him means you are in agreement. So, you MUST know what he means when he says "nature's way". THEN EXPLAIN IT THEN, GENIUS. cuz its a bunch of crap.

and my "qualifications" about theories of time are no different than anyone else in the world. thats where people like you go wrong. You think that just because someone is smarter than you, that you should hang onto every word they say...

    idiot.

  • @CalebTheGuitarist It's a figure of speech you stupid shit. You ought to watch who you call stupid. Like the pot calling the kettle black. I've seen your asinine responses and clearly you're missing a few chromosomes.

You're smarter than me? LOL what a fucking joke. You clearly don't know your face from your ass and you take everything I say COMPLETELY out of context. No sense arguing with an idiot because you must sink down to their level and they beat ya at your own game. Fucking moron.

  • @opiates

that entire reply was filled with senseless disses at me. what does that show? that you have no idea what your talking about. And what makes you that i ever implied i was smarter than you. thats another thing wrong with people like you. always focusing on whose smarter than who, and who is more worthy to make the facts, so people less smart will blindly follow them, regardless of what they are.

you. are. stupid. just. like. everyone. open your eyes.

  • @opiates btw, its NOT just a figure of speech. do some research, smart boy.

  • this is pointless really. AAAAAAAAAAALL OF THIS IS POINTLESS!!!!!!!!!!

who effin cares about traveling the speed of light. the concept is interesting to the point of making a sci-fi movie based on it. other than that, its absolutely worthless. stop wasting your effin time on trying to figure out how to travel the speed of light. nothing good would come of it anyways. the simpler the world is, the simpler life is. the less stress there is in the world. the happier people are..

    effin scientists

  • No it's not pointless. It's fascinating to understand the concepts of our universe. Perhaps you feel different, you are more than welcome to stop immersing yourself in science if it makes you happy. But don't assume that what makes you happy is the same for others. Some of us are content in a never ending pursuit of knowledge. If you want to wallow in simple ignorance, do so, I understand it's bliss.

  • lol. i agree 100% with you... to a certain extent. people like me and you love furthering our knowledge and exploring and learning about miraculous awesome stuff like this as much as we can. my point is simple though, theres really no benefit from this other than satisfying our curiosity. in no way could this help mankind in any way really...

besides, if time travel was possible, wed already have visitors from the future..... that alone proves its impossible wouldnt it.

  • yeah because knowing nothing about the world is so much better, back when we didn't know that the world was round for example, weren't those just much better times?

  • lol. i admit, learning is awesome... even the mere ability to learn is just amazing, considering our brains capacity...

but it is true. simper lives are in fact less stressful and just as enjoyable. you can always get more things... but all "things" get old and boring....

its truly a fact that money cant buy lasting happiness.

    =)

  • I understand the point you're making, but did you know that it's largely a modern myth that the ancients thought the Earth was flat? There's a good episode of Cosmos where the Greek Eratosthenes is mentioned - in about 200BC he actually worked out the size of the Earth and got within a few percent of the right answer :)

  • with two sticks, and shadows..

  • If your spaceship & another spaceship are each traveling in opposite directions @ 539,626,424.4 km/hr (half the speed of light), how fast do they pass one another?

    Arithmetical Answer:

    539,626,424.4 km/hr x 2 = 1,079,252,848.8 km/hr (speed of light)

Let's say you're doing a flyby past an exploding star @ 1/10 the speed of light and you pass some of the matter that's been shot out of that exploding star @ 9/10 the speed of light, do you & the matter pass each other @ the speed of light?

  • Good question. The answer is actually no. Unfortunately i forget exactly how to calculate the speed at which you observe one passing the other.

  • I can remember watching this bit when I was ten years old, and it blew my mind...

    Still does now

  • They say the speed of light can reach the moon in 1.3 seconds

  • yea so from the surface of the earth you see the moon as it was 1.3 seconds ago, and the sun as it was 8 minuits ago.

  • Mind bending stuff!! LIKE IT..

  • Time and space are part of the same continuum. You can go through space faster, but time will go slower for you. You can go faster in time, but space will go slower for you. I think the trick is to find the energy to be able to do both.

  • This guy was not actually driving at the speed of light, was he? If so, that's pretty cool.

  • no he was not. it is currently impossible to travel at the speed of light or anywhere close to it. actually in the actual book Cosmos, Sagan states that it is actually impossible for us to move at the speed of light but in the future we may obtain speeds close to 99.9% the speed of light but no matter how hard we tried we could never gain that extra .1%.

  • carl sagan is a genius man

  • what would happen if i would drive at the speed of light and crash for how long would people see me dieing please responde

  • they would see you relatively dieing at the speed of light, but from your frame of reference your time is unchanged.

but i think to get at your question, if you were orbiting the earth, and you were traveling at 100km/hr and you decided to increase your speed to the speed of light, and you had your crash a couple of min after, the earth would see your crash relatively in a couple of years from the point you you reached the speed of light. but you can't reach the speed of light.

  • To add on to what perein03 said if you started to die from the crash but at NEAR the speed of light you would appear to die a lot slower for an observer not moving at the speed of light.

Here's a thought though you could be dieing so slowly from their frame of reference that the observer could actually die from ageing before you died from the crash. I haven't done the maths so I don't know if this is true but because of time dilation this might be possible.

  • so this is pretty much time travel?

  • 'Travelling into the future'

  • Sure. So is waiting ten seconds. It's the same concept. ISN'T THAT AWESOME!!!!!

  • its so fkn crazy!!!!!!

  • Thats absolutely crazy how a person can actually survive for thousands of earth years if they move at the speed of light. Imagine going on a trip and being away for 1 light year. Coming back to earth and your only 1 year older but your brothers and sisters are 70 years old lol. I cant quite get my head around how a person can age faster or slower depending on how fast they move.

  • Think of it this way; he went forward in time faster, so "jumped" to the future.

  • No, he goes forward in time slower hence why he ages slower.

  • i ask you this.... if one could travel faster than light.....

say i was flying faster than light. if i were to turn around, would i see anything? being that light wouldnt be able to catch up to me, i wouldnt be able to see anythign at all would i.

light bounces off a surface, than comes to you. but if that light cant catch up to you, then i guess youll never see it if your going faster than it..... weird thought eh.

  • Einstein had this same thought at the age of 16, it was his constant curiosity for the question that eventually led him to discover the theory of relativity.

I can't say I fully understand the theory of relativity but what I've been told is that once you reach the speed of light then time not only slows down it comes to a complete stop. Without time, velocity and movement becomes moot and you wouldn't see any light. I've always wondered whether you'd have a consciousness in this situation.

  • Oh man !! I used to watch it when I was little kid, barely 6 or 7 year old. Its really a BLAST FROM THE PAST! for me. Excellent!!!!!

  • We just watched this video in Physics!!

  • that would be so cool

  • i wanna know what fuel he used in that bike!

  • regur gas... theywas jsut giving a example on how if a person travel a the sol (speed of light) how it would be

  • I love palo! He's awesome ;]]]]

  • Fun seems to change the speed of life! Carl Sagan will always be cool. Cancer got him. This is not spam. I'm an actual user looking for things to record for my own personal use.

  • semantecs will hurt your head. But if you look at it for what it is, it makes sense.

  • i look at it as sleeping when u sleep u are really tiem traveling. becasue while ur sleep thing are still hapening while u r sleeping ur skiping over a couple hours of time

  • remember its a "paradox" contrary to reasoning but none the less true.

  • that hurt my brain D:
