  • Mitch, I have to give you credit. You allowed my comments in spite of my disagreement with your theology and what you promote.

  • @RefutingFinneyism Oh yes. I usually leave them unless there is even one cuss word. When people use foul language, I usually delete it. I usually think that when people swear, they disqualify themselves from professionalism.

  • @gomitch2 You said, "I usually think that when people swear, they disqualify themselves from professionalism." How true. It's an excellent demonstration of their puerility. The irony of it is that you probably heard plenty of it as a Marine. No doubt that most people saw plenty of it in the first half of (please excuse the reference) Full Metal Jacket before Gomer Pyle went nuts on Hartman.

  • This video is a complete whitewash of who the REAL Charles Finney was. Mitch, Finney's predecessor at Oberlin, Asa Mahan, was also a "sinless perfectionist." This college was doomed from the start.

Also, you insult the intelligence of true brethren from upstate New York and New England who have seen the remnant of the work Finney wrought there. There has never been another revival there since then. Most denominations are outright liberals there and Roman Catholicism prevails in the Northeast.

  • @RefutingFinneyism What do you mean "doomed?" Mahan and Finney were major figures in the history of the college, and without them Oberlin wouldn't be the prestigious school it is today. Mahan was an abolitionist, a radical doctrine in 1832, and accepted the presidency under the condition that the college accept all races/sexes. Mahan, however, was not a good fundraiser, and a vote of no confidence expelled him. Finney was an excellent fundraiser which helped the young college grow significantly.

  • Okay, I do not like you.

  • Charles Finney was a truly challenging teacher. Intelligent, Biblical and yet direct without being dry and unloving. William Booth was influenced by Finney's writings and used many of his evangelistic methods.

  • @cgvtv Not true on all fronts.

  • Charles Finney was not a great preacher and his theology was bile.

  • Ummm...Just b/c Oberlin names a building after the guy doesn't mean that the building is sanctified to being used solely for religious purposes. Like everything, the uses of the building has changed over time as has the college itself. This doesn't make the chapel void of religion and the new uses for the chapel is not a blow to Finney's name. AC/DC is not the devil. And this video is an over exaggerative and fanatical portrayal of Finney chapel.
