  • who's the sax maschine !?!

  • Marcus' drummer, Poogie Bell, is the freaking man. I have a show coming up at the Hard Rock Cafe in Pittsburgh on March 2nd and Poogie is our drummer for it. I saw him play in person for the first time back in September and his energy amazed me. And the dude just doesn't stop smiling.

  • It's not about skill or talent, it's about soul. If you're heart isn't in it neither will your body and likewise your sound. This man feels it and plays it as his heart sees it. Bass is just an extension of the mind and body... this is how he speaks and he has learned the language quite well.

  • nice cover of the rhcp song flea would've been very proud i bet

  • @leonoff89 flea is still alive shithead.

  • @AlpineNInfinity ... easy folks ... it's music .. it not yours or mine ... its ours to enjoy or not. As for the musicians .. well mentioning flea in the same sentence with Marcus is ... lemme see, how can I put this so most of you will get it ... ummm ... lol ... kinda like remaining silent and being thought a fool vs. speaking up and removing all doubt. Don't get me wrong, Flea and his band RHCP are extremely talented and successful musician/performers. Enjoy who you will .. but keep it real

  • @leonoff89 It was a Stevie Wonder song first...

  • @zdude19942000 it a stevie song period.

  • @leonoff89 These Flea fanboys make me sad deep within my heart when I see their "Know it all yet getting it completely wrong" comments on every single bass video on youtube.

  • @leonoff89 hey man you're missing out this a Jackson's 5 song

  • Is Marcus playing an AMPEG RIG? Looks like a pro 4 back there!

  • Who's the damn saxophone player?!

  • @bejerama cause he's awesome!

  • GROOVE: /watch?v=sTMjT6YsyXk

  • Flea is more aggressive, plays faster. Marcus is laid back. different styles of slap, different kinds of music. cant compare em :) End of discussion.

  • @Storhonta I agree you can't compare what they do because their bags are different. I disagree that Marcus is more laid back, different styles. He CAN be, but goodness in terms of command of the instrument, there's no comparison. But fortunately, it's not about that anyway. Flea will never be Marcus and vice versa, but from just pure ability, Marcus is the stronger player, and that's fine, too. Flea probably wouldn't disagree.

  • Flea is awesome. But he just plays a fat basic groove on the RHCP version whereas Marcus is playing the vocal melody so, you can't really compare versions. Flea and Marcus are both awesome in their respective fields so all you guys criticising and running either player down, let's see you on the Bassist Hall of Fame first. Cunts.

  • I wish everyone would stop overanalyzing everything. If you don't like it, turn it off, or better yet, grab a stick and get out there and PLAY.

  • flea>marcus

  • @Ba55taztic Blasphemy. Even Flea would say so.

  • @Ba55taztic Are you fuckin out of your mind?

In what point he i better than precursor of jazz bass play?

Marcus made so much that Flea can at best wash his feets.

  • Unbelievable how few are mentioning the actual writer of this song and that is Stevie Wonder!! So judge Marcus Miller by Stevie's version not the RHCP version if you are going to! Jeezz

  • no one owns music. no matter how many cd's you have

  • Im all confused now. I guess no one own any song or piece when it comes to music.

    BTW awesome version!

  • Poogy Bell drums

  • Gosh, that drummer is a beast. Mr. Miller isn't bad himself, but one thing I'll criticize is that solo he started at around 6:00. I think we've all seen better.

  • @EliYBY Wow, the drummer is really a groove machine! Who is he?

  • @tubeos "Beats" me!

  • @EliYBY i have to agree, it was weird even before i saw your comment i was like 'holy shit! i think he actually made a mistake...' he redeemed himself with a really strong finish tho. gotta love the guy its like he realized he could do better and so really made it count at the end ! :)

  • I this RHCP version and this one are both really good, both different but both great.

  • Концерт был отличный) Такого заряда позитива и драйва давно не получал)

  • @RTMGreenBob ..are you sure??it's all greek to me..

  • Marcus Miller is a bad man... Both Marcus and the Chili Peppers do Stevie proud in their interpretations

  • Well for me I like them both, but the Original Stevie Wonder version is the best!!

  • @bassgodz agreed

  • marcus soy ezequiel cuanto pedis por el bajo

  • @crayZtaco7 i gree Clay Cesspool is badass

  • @DancingSpiderman are you mocking les claypool?

  • @crayZtaco7 no because he's badass

    are you mocking ME?!?

  • @DancingSpiderman

you called him Clay Cesspool......? am i missing something???

  • @crayZtaco7 LOL. That guy must've been drunk.

  • You dont need any credentials when you can sell out any concert hall anywhere on earth...the chilli peppers are as big as it gets and Flea is a badass bassist

  • @chewyflea well thats a bad way of judging... justin bieber could sell out nearly any massive concert hall too.... think before ya speak

  • @noahster1234 Yea...But the Chilli's are badass

  • Another great example of the fact that even when Marcus is playing a melody, he is still playing THE BASS !

    Kermit

  • I like Marcus but RHCP version of this song is better for me.

  • NO way! Miller is so much more a "jawdropper"

  • Even though I'm a bass player, I'm bothered by not being able to see the other players while they are soloing...

  • a real bass player dont give a shit.

  • @shroomiedoll cameraman's fault

  • we should all remember that unless we can do better and i bet 99.99999999999999999999% of us cannot......... we should not judge.......

especially music as it brings universal joy to everyone who lays ears upon it

  • Saying that you can't criticize unless you can do better is stupid.

  • That's a perfect answer !

  • @wakomaniac45 I strongly disagree with this. Ability and taste/appreciation are too very different things. One does not have to be a master musician to hold an opinion of one. This is very important to remember when considering personal artistic development, else we'd all be virtuoso clones of Marcus, Jaco, Victor, Jimi, Stevie etc.

  • i love marcus and flea, people need to remeber flea is a talented jazz player at both bass and trumpet

  • @hammzbone Marcus plays clarinet. A lot of clarinet. He recorded some clarinet on his last album: Marcus. He also played and composed for Miles, has written many film scores, was the bass player for Luther Vandross and David Sanborn, and was a part of SMV: Thunder, the most impressive demonstration of what bass is as an instrument. Flea plays for the Chili Peppers.

  • wundebar...

  • All remake songs are done and interpreted as the artist feels how he or she wants to paint the song. PERIOD!

  • marcus plays some pretty funky lines too, he doesnt just play jazz. and yeah they are both amazing

  • i like the original higher ground betta

  • please ppl - they both !@#$'n groove ..!!

  • I'm going to disagree and say that marcus miller can play funk, and does play funk. In fact, I would say that higher ground has more of a funk basis than a jazz base

  • Totally agree with Gazzam125

  • sorry but flea cant groove like him i love flea for is funk rock but marcus miller have is own style that nobody can copy

  • This is amazing, compared to the Flea version..

  • flea's name should not be spoken in the presence of marcus miller

    yeah, i said it.

  • I wonder what Marcus would think about you speaking on his behalf.....

  • Comment removed

  • Amazing

  • flea is good, but so is marcus

  • gtfoh!!!!!!!!!!!! i'm a bassplayer and i like flea alot,dude.mad respect.but flea don't non of this.

  • I LOVE Marcus... brilliant bass player, but really.. this doesn't make sense. This is a vocal tune... it's all about the lyrics man...

  • not in jazz.you do what you want with it and thats what makes mm.....mm

  • the song originaly is by stivie wonders.

    its a nice song^^

  • just to end the controversy, marcus miller is a jazz funk bassist and flea is funk rock

  • just to end the controversy, marcus miller > flea

  • @rysterryn

flea is a rock/punk rock bassist who happens to like funk. I watched an interview with him like a week ago where he said that he likes funk, but he wants to take something funky and turn it into a punk rock sound.

And Marcus has his very own style that his fans are able to recognize right away. And I love it

  • @CherryConcrete I agree, and i love both musicians. They have similar but different styles.

And just to notify you, this comment is two years old.

  • @rysterryn

I know, but that doesn't make the comment invalid

  • @CherryConcrete Its perfectly valid. and still true. i didnt insult either artist, simply accented the basics of their style and stated it.

  • @rysterryn

    I agree.

Also for your information, there is a song by Victor Wooten, called Bass Tribute. You might wanna check it out and listen closely. Basically Vic lists all the best bassists in the world and gives a brief example of their style afterwards.

    Its great, you'll love it.

  • @rysterryn

Yep, and his "background" is jazz music. ;)

  • yup and we all hate you

  • This gives me goosebumps!

  • thats because you cant do it you hateful asshole, it takes skill somthing you probably dont have. i bet your great at having sex with your little sister though

  • why comparing flea to miller?or anybody to anybody?this is not a competition!!

  • comparing flea to MM is stupid. It's like comparing football to basketball. You can't say if Michael Jordan is better than Roberto Carlos but they both use a ball to play =]

  • ive never heard anyone say it better

  • thanks man! cheers =)

  • this smashes flea in the face

  • no it doesn't ^^ both basslines are gr8!

  • Like er at least Marcus Milller was around in the 70's playing and hanging with Stevie while Red Hot Chill Peppers weren't even born.

THE 70'S WAS MARCUS MILLER'S YEARS,SO WHO IS COPYING WHO NOW?

  • Not to be an ass butt most of the guys from RHCP were born in the 60's hence they came out in the 80's.

No one copied anyone though, just a cover of a Stevie wonder song.

  • neither of dem are copyin each other, der playin a stevie wondar song, yeeneaaaaaaaaaa??

  • sounds like Red Hot Chili Peppers - Higher Ground, who copied who??

or is there no copy? oO

  • Red Hot Chili Peppers and Marcus Miller both copied Stevie Wonder

  • it's not a matter of copying. they both covered stevie wonder's song.

  • ya i kinda hate it when people go like

OMGZ HE COPIEDZ RED HOT CHILLI PEPPERZ SONG OMGZ HOMO

    Its stevie wonder lol

  • Harmonica was a nice touch

  • geeniaalnee !!!
