The marker doesn't really infect you, it actually causes psych problems in you. That causes you to kill people. But if the marker were to come into contact with dead cells it would start creating that fungus, that would help create the bat-things, which creates necromorphs.

If you like this check out a game called RLH (Run Like Hell) It's a PS2 game. Not the best graphics but DAMN spooky. The story is so similar to this that i swear they had to take some ideas from that other game.
X-box, and beat it to. Aliens, and a weird growth taking over a space station. The story was ok, but the makers didnt put alot of effort into some mechanics for the game.

I like how this story gives a good example of how corrupt companies or organizations use religon as a banner for their own personal sins thus making the religion look like the problem. It's just like the all the old historical crusades and what not. People didn't kill because they really believed it's what God wanted. They just did it for seeking their own power and didn't care of how their sin would affect others. They just used any excuse to justify their actions.
it had some scary moments...the atmosphere was perfect and so was the sound design (I played it on PC with head phones :P)
