The leather pants are one of his many trademarks. During one tour he wore white leather pants, which didn't last a week, then back to the normal black.
This recording was made three years after having radical nerve graft surgery on his left hand from RSI. He wasn't even supposed to be able to play at all after the surgery. The fact that he could even move is miraculous, much less play a piece which required such skill in the left hand.
As far as rock and jazz keyboardists go, there has never been anyone who could touch Emerson in terms of virtuosity.
I'm pretty sure it was his right hand that had the surgery. That makes it all the more to celebrate. God bless you Keith you did not take that low blow and showed us what a great spirit you truly are.
I thought it was his right hand that underwent surgery, and that he hadn't undergone it yet? You can see him make a face as if in pain earlier in the concert. He is also desperately wearing that copper bracelet on his right hand.
This was actually 12 months before the surgery, and not 3 years after. The recording was from October 2nd, 1992, and his ulnar nerve surgery happened after the ELP world tour finished in October 1993.
MIDI grand piano makes the sound more forgiving to errors...but Emerson at this time, on this tour, was pretty freaking incredible. Idunno about the leather pants though hehe.

LA PRIMA VOLTA CHE ASCOLTAI 'CREOLE DANCE' FU IL 20 NOVEMBRE 1992, AL 'Palaghiaccio' di Roma, durante un'esibizione degli ELP... Che meraviglia...

Keith's right hand ulna nerve was severely restricted. Surgery in 1993. There was a chance his right hand would be almost useless after the surgery.
