I'd be interested to see you attempt to capture Nue's second Ex-Spell, "Skyfish of Unknown Shape" the epic way. I've been trying it for a little while now, and it's exciting. Basically, you have to use Reimu and position yourself anywhere above Nue between the end of her first spell and the start of her second one. Now, let your homing amulets deal all of the damage to Nue while you stick to the top portion of the screen and dodge the arrow danmaku like crazy in no-focus mode. Good luck! :D

mamizou vs ran ....... i dont think a megaballed yokai whos main power is tranformation can beat a 9 tailed kitsune who can also tranform but also use magic and foxfire not to mention more illusions and tricks

some of the 9 tails in legends are compared to gods

not to mention ran = MEGA FLUFFY TAILHUG X9 

that is invincible

though id let the next fighter to settle the score since i expect both of them with a story with eachoter as last bosses

How "Mamizou Danmaku in Ten Tranformations" is ten transformations anyway? There are only 8 Mamizou's (9 if you count the original) I don't get it.

Well done as always, raak! On the first Spell Card though, the trick is to go outside the wall of gingerbread men (i.e. right of the rightmost or left of the leftmost), the middle is definitely where you DON'T want to be when they get to you. Tanuki's Monsterous School and Wild Deserted Island usually destroy me, though :(

you were completely correct on the personality. i read the wiki's translated version of her dialogue. also, apparently, she was GOING to be the youkai trump card against that final boss. a tanuki that's supposed to take down a saint and all her minions. she has 10 danmaku transformations, and uses them all against you. finally, that leaf? sometimes a tanuki's leaf is described as giving them their shapeshifting powers. that, or disquising the leaves as money. little criminals.

That the final boss was based off of a certain Male Character, considering both such character's appearance as well as her, her power, her hatred towards buddhism and her spellcards, I say it's pretty plausible.

But then again, it's nothing confirmed, so I might just be over reacting, but it's a nifty bit.

So.. the secret is she's based on a male character. That's not much of a secret or rumor as it is a blatantly stated fact. The male she's based on is Prince Shotoku. According to the wiki,he was known by many names, including Kamitsumiya no Umayado no Toyotomimi no Mikoto

However, if there was one only thing that I didn't like, it was that the extra stage wasn't related to the story AT ALL. Even if the temple is the gate towards the mausoleum, Nue and Mamizou are completely unrelated. Maybe Kogasa was a hint, but still. Gensokyo's lack of common sense at its best. Seems like wandering unrelated youkai can take over any stage (including extra) at any time. Oh well, as long as I'm having fun, I'll never get sleepy. (A cookie for whoever gets the reference).

@MaxXXXorJustMax It does make sense, Nue and Mamizou both wandered around pranking humans and were close friends, but now that Nue has settled down, she called in Mamizou from Sado (she was actually living in Japan) as a favor to stand up to the Taoists. Unfortunately, Tanuki's tend to not listen to a word people say... lol

People are underappreciating Mamizou, but I already get that Ex Boss feeling from her. You read my mind, raak, she's the Nue of nature. That's why she's her friend, I thought that Nue might have called her because she's a sore loser and didn't want the heroines to have the last word. That is also why the fight is in the Myouren temple, since she lives there with Byakuren. But no one can against the power of the heroines! Not even an ancient tanuki youkai that is stronger than that Old Youkai #1.
