  • Shingles is caused by stress. You need to chill the fuck out, man.

  • @pander22 My wife died by suicide and I have MS. It was hard to 'chill the fuck out,' man.

  • @vbeachy I see. I got them when I learned the truth about humanity. Life goes on.

  • @pander22 which is what?

  • The vast majority of people who get shingles do not have nearly such acute symptoms as you have. You mentioned in passing something about MS - this most certainly would result in a compromised immune system. Your scarring, numbness, and vision loss is extreme, and viewers of this video might be unnecessarily scared.

  • How much to eat chocolate ice cream off his forehead.

  • i have never seen a rash that color before. keep me updated and it does suck

  • @kataang222 My head is still numb but, other than that, I am doing well.

  • hi, my name is Nick and I have had shingles for about 8 years. I break out every month and sometimes twice a month. I have continuos pain and constant emberasment because I break out on the same side of my face that you did. The only thing that works for me is the viral inhibitor and pain medication. you ncan find the viral inhibitor at shinglestreatmentstoredotcom, and you already know where to get the pain meds at. if you break out again i suggest you try it because it works. take care.

  • @nickgallahad Wow...I am sorry Nick.

  • i know this is alittle off topic and what not but doesnt it kinda look like hes got deep dark blood spilled on his face. idk i kinda had that thought pop up in my head thumbs up if you can kinda get what im saying

  • poor bugger... I have shingles right now, not on my face thank God. I hope you made a full recovery.

  • @corymazz I have (sort of). The left side of my face is still numb and I don't think it is going to come back because it has been so long. I think I got nerve damage, but I am doing ok. Thanks.

  • Glad you're better. I'm on shingles (day 6) - watching your video helps!

  • @LisaCooks4you I am glad my videos have helped. Best of luck to you and always know they WILL get better!

  • @LisaCooks4you Well, good luck. Buy Caladryl Pink (calamine lotion) and get oath tub baths. Take pain killers to 600mg ibuprofen or something like that. Don't wear shirts and stay at home while you can. For now I'm going to try retynol A cream from Amazon. I found out that you can't buy it over the counter, YOU NEED prescription (doctor's note). That cream is going to get rid of spots as people is saying. I'm going to try it. I still have the post-herpetic pain but it's not serious as before.

  • @megamanx2006 Thanks for the advice! Things are finally getting better. The Caladryl and ibup.helped - with Cortisone cream at night. Doubled up on doses of vitamin E and C.

Had my first bout 25 years ago - spots eventually faded away, but scars remain from scratching - so try to keep hands off. (Not easy to do - so itchy!)

Sending you well wishes for a speedy recovery and consider the vaccine(words from my pharmacist) - because you can get it more than once.

  • Hey man, did you get rid of the spots? I had it but I still don't get the spots out of my skin. I'm going to try Retinol A cream and see what happens.

  • @megamanx2006 No, I didn't get rid of the spots. Please let me know what works. Thanks!

  • i talked to my teachers about it and they said it's so rare i shouldnt worry about it. they said only 1 member of their whole family hadi it and if im not a stressed person i think i will be fine :) and i dont think i will get it!!

  • @Mohamedahmed331

Yeah...I wouldn't worry about it either because it is relatively rare. Good luck!

  • I am 15 and I have it on my lower right back to my happy trail.....hurts like hell but its not on my face or genitals so I think I will be alright. Long term nerve damage isn't likely since i'm young right?

  • @holyhermit1

    Let's hope not!

  • @vbeachy I found that using guass pads and ace bandage makes a nice wrap around the rash. Keeps it from hurting so I can sleep and do other things without even noticing the rash. Its been 1 week since the first bumps, parts of it are scabbed and I can sleep without bandages too now

  • I am so Very sorry that u had them on ur face . I coudl not think of having them there . this past july i had them . the followed the Nerver off my tail bone . and went down the right side of my body . The scars from this r Ugly . I am sorry once again

  • @mickchick420

Yeah...the scars are ugly but I am glad the pain is now gone. Thank you.

  • everyone research oxysilver. it will kill that virus

  • im young right now i am 15 years old and had chickenpox will i probably shingles? becasue i really dont want it!!! is there a vaccine? please reply im really scared and worried! :(

  • @Mohamedahmed331

I couldn't tell you if you may get shingles. I know a lot of people who have had chickenpox yet they have never had shingles. I am not sure if there is something you can take to help prevent it and I would suggest you see your doctor and ask. I hope this helps!

  • @vbeachy hope you get better mate seriously I feel for you.

  • @SuperBG1990

I am much better now, thanks. Although the left side of my face is still somewhat numb. I don't think that will ever get better because it has been so long.

  • @SuperBG1990

I have just recently got shingles all over my back and my chest area and I have not felt pain like this for a LONG LONG time. I respect you a lot for having to deal with the pain for so long and my thoughts are with you my friend. HOPE YOU GET BETTER PAL

  • @Mohamedahmed331 thank you so much!!! and i read online that there is a 4/5 chance i wont so im not really worried! :)

  • Your video has helped me a lot. My shingles just started 10 days ago and it's nice to be able to hear about others. Yes, it sucks and it hurts. I hope you are doing well and thank you again for your video. All the best, Beverley

  • @balgran

    Thanks Beverley;

I am glad my video has helped. Yes, I am doing very well.

  • when i had mine..u arent suppose to take a shower, cause it makes it worse..but mine went away quick..and left a mark on my chest

  • @twinidee

Yeah, I still have numb spots on my head and get a twinge on the top of my head when I touch my left cheek. Weird.

  • Wow, you are amazing for doing this. I wish more people would talk openly about their afflictions b/c then we would be EDUCATED and not afraid. I have a friend w/ shingles and I googled it and here you are. She is using (I'm going to describe it the best I can. I haven't seen her outbreak nor have I seen her meds she just told me about it) what sounds like a "sticker" that has lidocaine on it that she wears at night and removes during the day. Good luck. Thanks for your bravery.

  • @liluatwins

Thank you for your comments. I am glad you found my video to be informative. I have gotten a lot of positive comments since I posted this. It was weird when it happened and I still have numbness on the left side of my face, now more than 2 years later.

  • @61waywardson

You're welcome. I am hoping your rash is not bad and not too painful.

  • I got shingles in July 2008. I have taken the same drugs that you have. I'm alergic to the neurontin, and had to have my left retina reattached do to this. I still suffer from the pain, and scarring. I've taken the vaccine, but you're right,it sucks. You're brave and honorable for putting the video up. Thanks, we will all make it through this hell.

  • @Iamonad

Yep, it does suck big time. Thanks for the comments and hope it clears up for you completely. I still have numbness on the left side of my face and I doubt that will ever go away.

  • i have it as well and it is really excruciatingly painful both in the body and in the pocket! argggh.. meds are so expensive.

  • Yes it is. Hang in there!

  • I have woke up with them this morning on my arm.

Omg, I have never been so shocked in my life :(

  • They are painful, but it will get better. Hang in there.

  • i have shingles to.. im 14. this is the worst pain ive ever felt. its on my ribs and back on my left side

  • Yes, EXTREMELY painful. But...it DOES get better!

  • I am suffering from shingles too. 19 years old and they say it is possible to get shingles again, although it is very rare.

I am taking 800mg Acyclovir. Blisters is covering my left shoulder and my left cheek. ): Very itchy and quite painful indeed. I feel your pain and it sucks badly. -.-

  • Yes it does suck really badly. Hang in there!

  • i have shigles ryt now and im taking 1 tablet of gabaprentin (neurontin) 300mg, 2 tablets of valaciclovir (valtrex) 500mg every 8hours, paracetamol every 4hours and applying acyclovir (Zovirax) 50mg/g cream as topical it happens that it only appears in the half of my face now im worried if its going to leave a scar. what should i do? nightmare.

  • What should you do? The HARDEST thing ever: DON'T PICK THE SCABS! Picking them will lead to scarring.

    Yes, I picked.

  • really how long will it takes in the process of healing? tnx for response

  • It took me about 3 weeks. Yeah, bummer, I know.

  • I still have a big dint in my head cause i picked :S

  • It's HARD not to pick, isn't it Nikki?

  • I feel your pain...literally. I am a young woman with shingles on the right side of my torse. Intense pain and itching together, a sheer nightmare!

  • Big time pain and itching. But, it does get better.

  • Man i feel for you hope you feel better soon wish yuo the best

  • Thanks Don. I do feel much better but still have some lingering effects (like numbness on the left side of my face) but at least the pain is a thing of the past. :)

  • I had no numbness, but a endless itch and a burning sensation under my armpit. The accumpuncture alleviated with the itch and finished with the burning sensation once and for all. But be carefull with the accupuncturist you choose. good luck mate

  • THANKS!

  • The nerves under my armpit was badly damaged but the burning sensation I used to have was highly improved with accupuncture. Thanks for the video

  • Did accupuncture help the numbness at all? I no longer have pain on the left side of my face but it is still numb.

  • sweet thanks man

  • Anytime. :)

  • how long did it lasted for you and by the way did u cure it when it started or like a few weeks after? took any medication? pain killers? was it painful? like really hurt like stinging?

  • It took about 3 weeks for the blisters and then the scabs to clear up. I started treating it about a week after the blisters started appearing (sort of like heat blisters from a sunburn) when the pain became almost unbearable. It wasn't like stinging, it felt like someone was poking me with a knife, or like playing mumbly peg with a knife on my forehead...constand and random.

I got on anti-biotics and Vicodin for the pain.

  • hey man is ur shingles gone yet? and btw are there any after affect? like does ur nerve hurts? O_O

  • Yes, the shingles are gone. Yes, there are after affects. The left side of my forehead is still numb and a doctor told me that the nerves have probably been permanently damaged. It is an annoying effect to say the least.

  • wow are shingles really that painful??

  • Yes, unfortunately

  • are shingles sex transmitted disease? since it is classified as herpes and its other name is zoster herpes... is it like hiv that transmit and pass on to generation?

  • I am not a doctor...but no.

  • That blows man. I just noticed mine about 3 or 4 days ago and I'm on Valtrex now. Hopefully the drugs can stop it before it gets too serious. I definitely do not want to deal with the same shit that you've got.

  • hey, I'm 18 and I just got shingles...and I play football. Its a pain! but the military docs gave me valtrex too. did it work for u?

  • hey, im 11 and I recently had shingles. dont bother it for a while and it will soon leave, atleast thats what happened to me. good luck

  • I have no insurance and I have 3 children and my husband is gone. I am sooo freaking out. How am I supposed to take care of these kids if I can't treat these things.

  • I am sorry to hear that. However, there IS always assistance for those in your situation. Ask for it and I am sure you will get the help you need.

  • I have shingles all over my fave for the third time. I am only 28 years old

  • I feel for ya brother , that looks like it's very bad .

  • ORGANIC apple cider vinegar.

take brown papaer bag cut strips soak use cling wrap to keep moist.

should relieve pain and help drying small blisters.twice a day for short times do not leave on over night.

  • I am 13 and i had shingles in june. I got like 5 bumps on my tummy. And they only itched. I was lucky not to have not as much pain. But it was pussy and gross.

  • In addition to itching, mine came with a lot of pain and the left side of my face still has nerve damage and it has been more than a year since I got shingles.

  • That is sooo sad!

  • Hello my 7 year old daughter has shingl

es on her forehead and says she can bearl

y see. It has been diagnosed by doctor. But she has only been given antibacterial cream and eyedrops. Any advice.

  • Yes, tell her it WILL get better! I got some antibiotics and Vicodin for pain. That was all I could do. I certainly feel for your daughter and I thought Shingles only ocurred in older people, but, of course, I am not a doctor so that tells me how much I don't know. I don't know if my comments qualify as "advice" but I hope it helps.

  • valtrex is a persription drug used for shingles....my cost was $79 for six days of treatment...please check with your doctor

  • Im 16 and I was just diagnosed 3 days ago. They gave me ACYCLOVIR and Tylenol with Codeine. I have it on the opposite side of yours. Its covering my right eye lid too. Its terrible. Mine already almost looks like yours.

  • Oh, man, I am sorry to hear that, but YOU can get through it. They gave me the same anti-biotic as well, with Vicodin for pain.

Some advice: DON'T PICK THE SCABS. It is tempying to do that (and I did) but I also have pockmarks on the left side of my forehead. Just let them fall off and it will heal without pockmarks.

  • Got it. I just had them on my eye lid. They said to come in for urgent care. They gave me Zofran and eye drops now.

  • Hello. My friend is 32 and has been diagnosed with shingles. She had small breakouts for years but she just thought it was just a small rash. This time her entire left side of her face became infected and her eye. They told her she had shingles 2 weeks ago. Her left eye swelling has gone done but she cannot see anything. Her eye doctor told her it would be permanent and to not expect a miracle. Now she has them in her mouth. Her meds are 2 expensive so what can she take that is cheaper?

  • I am so sorry to hear about your friend. Wow...I thought I had it bad but I got off easy compared to your friend.

About cheaper meds? Honestly, I don't have a clue, I really don't. I wouldn't know what to tell her. I still have numbness on the left side of my face and my neurologist told me there is nothing they can do for it, so I think that may be permanent.

  • Not stupid at all. My pastor has shingles under his arms or something so its cool to have a presentation like this. Just out of interest, what can you compare the pain to?

  • That is a good question. It feels like someone is playing Mumbly Peg on your head with an extremely sharp knife (and hitting pay dirt every time). Does that make sense?

  • I have a tingling feeling in the left side of my face, just under my temple, and it sort of stops by my earlobe.

I'm so afraid I have shingles; I don't want to get it because it sounds so painful and am afraid of scarring.

  • Hmmm...it sounds like how it felt when I got shingles, but take heart in knowing YOU CAN GET THROUGH it! scarring is a concern and I have a scarred forehead, but it is my fault for picking at my scabs. However, it is not the end of the world for me and keep in mind that YOU CAN GET THROUGH IT!

  • Thank you, beachy. Your words are encouraging. If I do end up getting shingles, I will watch your videos; they kept me from getting too upset, and inspired me to be braver about it.

Thank you for posting this video. I went and watched more of your videos and I liked them very much.

  • Thanks Crystal...be strong!

  • Thank you for the report on your second week. It does look a lot better. My shingles must be in its 5th week . Because I have chronic lymphacytic leukaemia I was vulnerable. I have since found out precautions could have been taken if I knew.

. Now I have completely lost my sight in that eye.

Quite a large proportion of the population will get it but some never know because it is mild. The others - well we know.......

  • Hmmm...I was on Vicodin and that seemed to help me, but I still have numbness more than a year after getting shingles.

  • i used 'co-codemole' (spelling problem there) when i had shingles, that was a life saver for saving the pain

  • i got them unfortunatley when i was 12.

i got them all over my back and chest, very itchy and painful! i feel for you since your spot is way more painful than mine.

  • I am in the third week. Had shingles medication but I think it was too late. Have lost sight of right eye. Three visits to eye specialist and no hope held for improvement in sight. Lots of pain, vomitting .I needed more help with pain.

If you get it make a fuss and get all the help available.

Thankyou for making video. Hope you are feeling much better now.

  • Wow...I am so sorry to hear about your experience with shingles. I sure hope you get relief soon. I am doing well but, despite having had shingles more than a year ago, the my left forehead and parts of the left side of my face continue to be numb.

  • i think that's common to feel pain after the 2-4 week period is up

  • valtrex is the remedy. There is no cure cuz it's just a remanifestation of chicken pox it stores it's self in your nerves when you are over worked or overly stressed you may break out. Shingles only spans one side of your body because your nerves are designed that way. They are painful I was pregnant when I got them the first time so I couldn't take pain meds. I spent alot of time in hot baths and it eased my pain. Mine were on my chest couldn't immagine them on my face ouch. Feel your pain :(

  • Yes, pls. It would be helpful if you will give us update on how you are. What other meds you've been taking? Is Oil of Oregano really effective?

  • The ONLY med I take is Tysabri for MS. Maybe a few ibuprofen every now and then, but that is it. I have never tried oil of oregano.

  • Thank you so much!! You've been very helpful and serves as an inspiration that we can still smile despite the pain.

Have a nice day and God Bless!

  • Hi!! It's been a year now since you posted this. I just want to know how are you now? You see, my bf was just diagnosed with shingles today. I didn't know what it was until i read it on the internet and saw your video. I hope he copes the same way you did. I also hope you are doing fine now.

  • Hi!

I am doing fine now, but I must admit that the left side of my forehead is still numb. Some have suggested that it may be due to some other reason than shingles. But...no scabs anymore and I hope to post an update on YouTube sometime soon! Good luck!

  • I visited my mom's house today and my dad has shingles on his right leg. He is taking prescription pills. I didn't know what shingles were until they told me. So i got on here on looked them up.

  • as soon as you get shingles, you should see a doctor for anti-viral medication

  • i have shingles and i am only 16...Im not on any meds at all exept taking good vitamins and antihistamen that makes me drowsy so i dont itch when im sleeping..

Should i be taknig other medications?!?! =O

    help meee!

  • I used a steel brush. Ha! But, honestly, it is not funny and I also wanted to stock up on sandpaper...the biggest grit.

  • sanity went by the wayside a long time ago ? lol its itchy aaaargh !!! it wakes me at night not painful but the blisters just itch like mad so I'm not sure its even shingles or some form of herpes zoster or what it is on my elbow/forearm. I can barely stand it I have calamine lotion on right now and popped some vitamin C so I can hopefully get back to sleep its just horrible . I don't think you're crazy for posting , if anything it makes people feel they're not alone in this .

  • Thanks for the video.

I'm 38 and I just got it on my chest (left side only)

My pain is not that bad, exept when trying to sleep. I think I will have to get some pain med for that. I'm on about day 4 (of the rash) now. I had the other systems (chest pain mainly two-three days prior)

I thank you for your video, very imformative.

My question is I have been reading that you can have pain long after it is gone. How did you do? Did the pain stick around after shingles?

  • Yes, the pain did lessen but I still have the random sharp, stabby pains on the left side of my face (mainly in the forehead). The left side of my face is still numb, too. I hope that goes away soon. I am not taking any more pain meds, with the exception of IB every once in a while.

  • i have shingles im 14 and it hurts so badly :(

  • Yes it does! Sorry.

  • I don't think you're stupid, I think you are trying to raise awareness to those who have not had shingles yet. 50% of the population over the age of 60 will get shingles. There is a vaccine for shingles, and moms there is a vaccine for chickenpox. Prevention is the key

  • Have you tried vygone? everybody says it works great on shingles

  • No, I haven't, but I am going to look into it. Thanks!

  • if it works please post a video or let me know. I dont get outbreaks very often so I am just waiting it out.

  • I have shingles on my back. I am 14 and it is not painful at all.

  • But it is itchy.

  • I feel the same way, and i'm 14 too.

  • im 15 and i have it on my neck, no where else...At first I was fine it was a tad itchy...Now it burns and stings like a mother. I wish it went away..

If you have only had it for 2-3 days you have not yet felt the pain. you will

I recomend not wearing a shirt I dont wear t-shirts cuase the collar on my neck...I am screwed at school. you are not alone

  • Really? Well mine has recovered almost 100% and I never once felt a strong pain to it. It was only itchy for me. I did have a cream which may have soothed it a little bit, but it deffinatly took the itch away.

  • I've never had Shingles so can't even imagine the pain associated.

Not really even sure why I did a search for Shingles on YouTube, but your video did startle me and I feel for people who have had it much more now that I've seen the effects.

Took lots of guts to upload this video at your worst to help and inform others.

Hope you're keeping well - take care of yourself :)

  • Well, have you ever been stung by a jelly fish? or have you ever had a bunch of cactus needles fester under your skin? Well that's pretty close to how it hurts, but now you need to imagine what it feels like to get hit with a 2 x 4 at 60 miles an hour in your side. Now that's about as close as I can get to what it feels like. Sorry I got so graphic but that's how it hurts.

  • i feel for you i never had it that bad but what heleped me was taking 2 drops of oil of oregano under my tongue and chase down with juice i prefer orange juice cause the oil is real strong and i rub it over my shingles and in no time i felt relief of the itching and burning. once they dissapered i still would take it orally. i noticed when i went months without taking it orally i would break out. i dont take no more chances anymore, oil of oregano is with me and in my system for now on!!

  • Oil of Oregano is now on my shopping list. Thanks!

  • I've had it on right middle face & roof of mouth for about 3 weeks, probably from the right maxilliary opthalmic trigeminal nerve which is connected to the inside upper mouth & teeth, cheek, side of nose, nasal passage, eye, forehead, & scalp.

Face has mostly healed up but I'm left with numb & painful/sensitive areas. Mouth roof is improving but a long way to go.

Apparently deadened nerves will usually recover within 2 months but pain might continue.

Not fun! I hope everyone recovers OK.

  • I still have numb/painful areas on the left side of my face. Hopefully it will get better soon!

  • i have shingles on my back sometimes it very hard to stand

  • hi, im a male 36 and just getting over facial shingles, 3 months to date, try using gabapentin(neurontin) its mainly for epilepsy however does a great side effect in pain blockage together with tramodol and aclivor for the virus. I had to try various other pain relief for 1st six weeks, waste of time and lots of pain. this was the only treatment that helped me. try to get on it straight away!! hope this info helps someone else. ps dont pick the scabs i now have the scars to prove it

  • Yes, I am on Neurontin for MS pain and that does a lot better than anything else!

  • Here is something I did to relieve the pain and itching which made me try to kill myself with pills and Alcohol. Crush several aspirin, add 3 Tbls. Baking Soda, 3 Tbls. Clear Calamine Lotion and 2 Tbls.of Hydrogen peroxide. Sir into a chalky paste. Apply Gently to the sores with Q-tips. Let it dry and don't scrub it off. It dries up the sores and helps them to flake away. As for the pain, Elephant tranquilizer won't even help. Demorol,Oxy-C? Not even! Socks on Hands at bedtime. Sleep, Cry , Pray

  • I had it 9 years ago on my face. Don't scratch or pick at those sores. I have pain to this day from the nerve damage. It feels like a being shocked with an elecrical wire deep in my ear canal. I dread the day my lips start to tingle. Be well and let the sores dry up and fall away themselves or you will scar. It took a total of 6 weeks to to look normal. I was a scab monster. I wanted to die the pain was so bad. You will be stronger when its over.

  • 9 years...wow. I am wondering if the nerve damage on the left side of my face will get better.

  • You will get all the feeling back but it takes months. Exercise the muscles surrounding the nerve cluster. You survived! Be aware that Deep tissue massage along the spine can release the virus. You are cool for making this video. There was only one picture and very little data on the web when I had my outbreak. This testimonial will help others who are suffering and worrying. Thanks. Be strong and meditate to focus healing energies towards your MS. Peace and Love. God Bless

  • hope you doing better now.....thanx for the video very informative...

  • Thank you for the update Vernon. I still like to see you, rash, or no rash. I hope that your drive to Des Moines & #20 went well, too. And, I hope that you're getting over the shingles! --Mary

  • Thanks for posting this V,and for sharing your personal insight into this condition. I hope it does not cause a problem with the Tysabri infusion....I presume Tysabri is supressing your immune system somehow....hence the reactivation of the chickenpox virus. I understood that antibiotics were counterproductive in instances of viral infection. Its just a humble opinion btw.

  • I was told about your site because in a recent video of mine I had just gotten out of the hospital. The left side of my face seized up. It seemed like every muscle went numb and my eye shut after that I had numbness all over. What type of antibiotics are you on for it? I'm also on Tysabri #4 I haven't seen any good come of it yet but I'm patiently waiting.

    Peace,

    Steph

  • I am on an anti-viral medicine called Famciclovir.

  • SHingles are Horribly painful...I had to go through it for weeks when I was 16, I hope you get through it well.

  • Vern,

Thanks for posting this update. Hopefully next week you will have the worst of this behind you. You still have a wonderful smile despite the shingles!

    Jayne

  • Thank you for the update!

  • Thanks Jayne!

  • Get better soon Vern!

  • Thank you!
