  • American mods?......... LOL! Stop embarrassing yourselves been wannabes and leave it to the brits where it belongs ;)

  • @GarethNisbett : Then leave the R&B Soul music that all mods cherish in America where it was born!

  • Does anyone know what the song is at 3:33 ?

  • I'm prood da be a DOM, breeding dicleskia

  • mod style is cool to me until you come to the scooter. the scooter is the most lame-ass thing as far as a style is concerned. no wonder the rockers wanted to kick their ass and drive motorcycles all over them

  • @pinkus44 the scoot was about a cheap form of transport that kept the clothes clean since you sit IN a scooter not on it like a motorcycle thereby risking getting oil on you and ripping clothes etc. Any Mod who could afford it drove a mini cooper as this was the mod car and could leave any bike in the dust especially when suped up

  • if you dress smart, and enjoy scootering (rain, Snow, sunshine, etc) love the sixty's style, and into haveing a good time, your a mod.

we have all sorts of music from ska, soul, indie, r&b, motown, 2tone, n/soul, blues, 60s brit pop.

there will always be different oppinions on music, fashion, scooters (vespa), rallys, runs, dances, clubs, its one of those things, we all want to be different but the same, im a mod from the late 70s early 80s

  • great !!!

    inter mods madrid españa

    ( youtube)

  • Im going to buy a vespa it will be my first as i am nearly 17, i was wondering if i should go with an older model or one of the newer ones?

  • rain, snow, cold weather can never stop a mod being a mod

  • I guess I just don't understand

  • when is your movie going to dvd?

  • oh come on, do they even have a bank holiday in california??, where do they go, brighton, scarb, devon,? or just down to the local dianetics centre for an ice cream!! Mod is about wearing an ill fitting suit from the charity shop and a dirty parker getting covered in rain piss n mud at the side of the road broken down, fishn chips in dirty paper after the slut in the corner at the disco and pretending to do some drugs.

Californian Mod!! basking in th sun........I shit it!!!!!!!!!

  • mods are really stupid people..heheheh

  • IF you take a close look at some of the traits and characteristics of the mods, youll find they are in fact the first generation of chavs, which makes me even more glad im a metalhead and love listening to cannibal corpse, slayer, megadeth, maiden, pantera, and love to ride motorbikes over those gay ass scooters.

  • Wow- I had no idea this created such a fuss. The guy at the start is STILL a Mod, We all STILL ride. All metal too. No TNGs. Nothing wrong with being a bit full of yourself a that age- we all were. 89? I think all the UK dudes should feel complimented we emulated them rather than us being Americans focus on our own 60s culture. Most of those folks in here are really good people. He meant riding all year was easier. This vid is ancient. Relax... Still a Mod.

  • We're magpies. Haircuts (France), Scooters & fashion (Italy), Soul music, Levis, Parka and Pop Art (U.S.). Mod is a refraction of global coolness. Granted, the British put it together. To have the nerve to take the best the world, and say that it now can only exist in the UK is bullshit! A lot of us, are absolutely hardcore, it's a real way of life for us. I know, because I am a Mod and I am in this film. I will be a modernist until the day I die, and no UK dumbass is gonna tell me otherwise.

  • BLINDING...........

  • Makes me want to get and ride

  • Good documentary. I'll think i'll do the same in the uk.

  • WTF this is San Luis Obispo mid 90's i should know i live there. Dont know any other mods there.. i would know. Must of been out of towners.

  • no, it was in the early to mid 80s

  • columbus was released in 1992. the Coffee merchand opned in 1991.... i can go on.. the year a lot of the san luis street scenes were filmed was 1992

  • Live a Mod Die a Mod, there is no substitute.

  • Oh Man. I'm sorry but i Personally don't think that the PX is exactly a sharp ride : (

  • Mods: True Brits

Rockers: Brits pretendng to be Americans

  • @cerealrulz I was a mod, rockers never tried to be Americans, they rode British bikes for a start.Who in their right mind would pretend to be an American? why

  • I basically meant they all listened to American music and tried to look like Elvis. And you're right, who in their RIGHT MIND would try to be American?

  • @cerealrulz too true point taken)

  • "They rode British bikes for a start". LOL, right. As if they had access to Harleys (sarcasm)...

  • SX200 me,worth a few quid now though, bought it for £25 bargain

  • magic vid..falkirk mods scotland

  • We Mods, are Universal. There is no claim to the a Mod, the Mod Scene, R&B-----[USA], and then Scoots and Fashion [UK], we are 1, We are the Mods. K.T.F. Brotherhood.

  • what is the music at 1:35?

  • "MOD LIFE FOREVER!"

     KerimMod4Ever

  • the mods were british ok , big guy where i lived had a vespaworth 400 pound back in 65, 66 around there i was a bit young for it then but i remember it ok

  • not all mods are brits.

don't forget canadian, American and spain scene.

but who cares, we're all united eh?

  • Nice Vid, I thought you might like to ckeck out my new show - Silent Pozz..

    Hope you enjoy,

    G

  • Secret Affair are playing The Camden Centre, King X, May 30th.

  • What is that song at 3:31? Anyone know?

  • ocean colour scene - hundred mile high city

  • THE JAM

  • Arses,

Mods are not just British, we are founded in GB [England] and then escalated from there. Mod is universal, just like the scooter scene. You people who shout about USA Mods not being Mods are pathetic uneducated wannabe Mods.

We, Mods, from GB who have been Mods while you's were still at school are totally against your uneducated comments here.

    Toon, Glasgow Mods.

  • you're right mate

Mod is worldwide, we just commonly associate it with the UK because that's where it started off and where it was possibly, the most popular.

It'll never die out though! Unlike all this 'indie' and 'emo' shite

  • dumb fuck yanks mod is british , and tbh wouldnt it be too hot in california to wear full suits and a parka!!!!!!!! FFS!!

  • No such thing as a yankie mod, sorry.

  • true

  • Next it'll be an English Ku Klux Klan. God help us

  • That already exsists, it's called the BNP.

  • Can see where you're coming from there, but not the same thing at all

  • I'm off to Vegas in 09 for the High Rollers Scooter Rally - I'll save my opinion on American mods 'til after then; but I know a Boston Strangler or two and those guys are genuine, nice friendly scooterists, even if they do wear flat caps like a bunch of caravan dwelling, dog fighting, house robbing, pikeys.(and clearly can't drink, because they lost that gene after Independence!)

  • @modwolf63 had a great time at the rally, the septics are well into it and fair play; bit more revivalist and a predeliction towards ska but its a broad church. As for the drinking, nah, they couldnt keep up and the caps (skells?) are a bit dodgy.

am back to vegas for the 2011 rally this week. so that'll be a thumbs up then

  • why have you got a shit "thin lizzie" track on here? they were more biker greaser than anything else, stupid fucking yanks!

  • Dumb fuck, it's a documentary. Who knows who put this together.

  • What are you a professor in Weegie, it certainly isn't anything to do with being a Mod? I think you'll find they're called Flyscreens, and that Thin Lizzy track is actually Ocean Colour Scene. Leave the scene to those of us who know, mate.

  • ha ha!

  • why havent you got mod windscreens?

  • Without the American music scene the British Mod Movement would never have been what it was/is. The Mod movement grew out of the American R&B movement.

At the end of the day it doesnt matter where your from, if your a Mod your a Mod. In the 60's the scooter to have was a Vespa, Lambretta's were very common and 10 a penny.

But the Goth thing, na, never..WE Are The Mods.

  • correct.r and b did drive the scene, then transformed by indigent bands like the who.VESPA is the SCOOTER.

  • nice vid

  • I love you Poswell!!!

  • Not one Lambretta in sight all vespas, and its filmed in the U.S.A,what do they know about the Mod scene apart from what weve told em!!!!

  • Though to be honest, American R&B and Soul and Levis were the best exports from our American friends.

  • What the fuck does that have to do with anything? You saw maybe five or six scooters in this clip.

There were always more Vespas than Lambrettas in the US.

  • whats the first song called?

  • "Can't Explain" by The Who. Their first single. Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin) played rhythm guitar in the studio.

  • no he didn't

  • Townshend played the solo but Jimmy Page had b een brought in as a session man just in case.

  • yeah never was too sure about that , but yeh lol makes me love the song more :)

I wish i was a mod well i am becomingone

  • good vid ,,,,cheers

  • I love the mod fashion. I am not a mod though. I dress post-punk. It is kind of similar to the mod fashion though.

  • First minutes... Pimp my Vespa ;-)

  • SORRYYYYYYYYYYYYY WAS NOT MY KIND OF HEAVEN

    WAS CAN'T EXPLAIN BY WHO

    Studi Jerk I am

  • I dont think goth is today what mod was than

  • whats that 1st song?

  • Shound be YOUR KIND OF HEAVEN, i found it on the mod scene CD vol. 1

    Enjoy

  • thanks alot

  • mods are nowt like GOTHS you tosser

  • mods were a breed of there own.MAGIC

  • well ur room mates talked bollocks. Mods did not look gothic! dont talk bollocks

  • this is probly the only time a Liverpool and an chelsea fan agree, but well 4kn said kidda!

    where's that 4kn rainer1980 from??

few ppl had heard of goths in the 80s??!!

what the fuck are u on about rainer??

    Lee

    The Sawdust Caesar.

  • What we call "Goths" now we would of called Mods back in the day. In the 80s I had these roommates that had the Gothic look, but they refered to themselves as Mods. Few people had heard of Gothic lifestyle then.

  • SHUT UP YOU TART!

  • Cool shit dude, makes me want to go out and buy a three button jacket, great working with you, guys.

    B

  • how can someone who is not british be a mod, the whole mod thing is built around british culture.

  • ....with American Levi's and American R&B...don't think youre up to the compitition? You keep the jeans...we'll take the parkas. Besides no one does mod more precisely than the Japanese.

  • Mods wore what they could find in shops like Flip in Covent Garden & shops in Kings Road & Carnaby Street & they bought the best clothes that their money could buy. Mods were predominately into British r'n'b i.e.Yardbirds,John Mayall,Them, Stones, High Numbers & all the Jamaican rocksteady and roots that was being imported. The whole Mod thing grew out of the fact that people didn't want to have a Trunk front & a Ducks Arse haircut and wear Leather Jackets.

  • In America and Japan, there weren't Rockers,so why imitate something which has nothing to do with your countries sub-culture,the whole essence of Mod is being British, i.e. all RAF targets, Union Jack coloured clothing

  • Really? Weren't there? Where have you been?? "British" R&B was influenced by and even copied American music.

Are you somehow under the impression that everyone outside will just give up and say, "we better stop or harryispotterorsommat will come and give us a big fat boo-hoo" or something? Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Take it with some grace. We did.

  • i'm not denying that the british were influenced by the american music, however the rising of blues followed by R'n'b spawned for the wrong reason, because the americans are so incredibley racist and xenophobic. Being a mod was a life style not something which is material like music. If i wanted to be like an American, i'd get a white cape and gather some others and then go and murder some ethnic minorities.

  • I'm from one of the most diverse cities in the world; San Francisco. Your intolerance of Americans as a whole people, not to mention the Mods says volumes about your maturity and values. It is bound to be it's own entity in each scene once the participants develop a sense of individual identity. The older generation of Mods seem pleased that we hold their legacy in such high regard. It seems to be the younger generation of Brittish Mods that are stingy and selfish with it.

  • how many original british mods do you speak to? my dad was on of the faces around the south east, and he does not appreciate people twisting our mod culture, you don't even wear the proper clothing. People have twisted things out of proportion. This video is the epitome of how much Americans bullshit things, "mod fashion is always changing", mod fashion didn't change, it stayed the same.

  • Your knowledge of Mods pales in insignificance to a Britain who lived through the mod era. I bet you're the type of person who bums from 80s mods and loves the jam and thinks Paul Weller created mods.

  • I'm not a mod. Just defending the right to be one. ;)

  • And to answer your question, on a regular basis I talk to one older gen Brit mod. Great friend of mine.

  • Stop listening to R&B influenced music if you are not black and American.

Stop wearing jeans if you are not a 49er and don't pan for gold.

Stop riding Vespas and Lambrettas if you are not Italian.

    Sounds stupid, doesn't it?

  • Mods was a lifestyle none of those a lifestyles. A culture is different to clothes or something else which is material. If you're so mature and valued you'd appreciate that, so try and get it right before you start patronising me.

  • R&B music not cultural? Get off it.

  • you don't live by R'n'b, you listen to it. R'n'b is music!! Mod is music, clothes, lifestyle, haircut, scooters, enemies.

  • If your lifestyle is centered around music (from a foriegn culture,) clothes (from various foriegn cultures,) haircuts, and scooters (from a foriegn culture.) Why don't you at least acknowlege the cultural influences of these other cultures? Mods were not spawned into existence from the side of some purely Brittish god were they?

  • Hey, I love The Jam. Doesn't mean I haven't got the right idea of Mod, I don't like Paul Weller but he wrote cracking music.

  • Mod is British

  • if you really want mod and groovy check out paultinsel

  • NOT BAD YANK MODS london nw9 mods we were the hippiest mommas in town eros, les, duffy, strangey, starkey, dave w,daveb, millsey, john mac, legs, little rob, titty, sexy sue plus loads, mikee your wrong does matter what you wear

  • Oh please its not something you put on, you make it sound so shallow . dosent matter what you wear , its inside you from the day your born till the day you die. theyll bury a m-----od x

  • Was that chap who was going on about the weather in LA wearing a parka???

  • yeaaaaaaaaaaaa :D

  • I was brought up in the 79 revival so didnt experience it first time. To say yer a mod now really means yer into that 60's sound and look. Which still pisses over anything around at the moment.

    Keep the faith.

  • quite like a lot of moddy syuff, but some of these chaps appear to be completly lost up their own arsehole !!

  • this is the most crpyto conformist,e exclusive thing i have ever seen.. this 'mod' thing is getting way outta hand..fucking glad paul weller broke up the jam at the right time...im understanding his rationale a bit more

  • How is dressing retro, listening to retro music and living a retro lifestyle in any way modernist?

  • duh ,,, we wear modern stuffs, modern music, but classic scoot ,, a lil of everything

  • I was a mod in London u.k.. first bought my vespa gs 150cc in 1965. Wore a parka over 2 tone mohair suits.

Italian laced shoes. Fred Perry's, Levi sta-press jeans. Went to Brighton, Bognor regis and Margate at bank holidays. fantastic time to have grown up.

    Everything was new, fresh exciting.

  • calm down you lot!! I thought we hated rockers not each other!! lol

  • I had my youth in England in the 60s in was great around London with all the groups we had out that time beatles stones & they are still going !!!! and eveyone wants the clothes we wore

  • where can i download this lil movie???

  • hey ... dont be so uptight folks - yes we do have plenty of rain here in the uk/ireland/jockland but riding scoots ( proper ones ) is always cool whether its popping down town or hundreds of miles. carawagon - you wanna take a chill pill dude ... at least these guys aint riding fuckin tuppaware

  • So in summary of above, you must drive hundreds of miles on a scooter to a rally or you're not allowed to be a mod. Also, you can wear crappy clothes with patches and stuff but "its whats inside that makes you a mod", whatever tough guy.

  • mods? what a bunch of self centered wankers i have driven hundreds of miles in hail rain and snow yes we do have sun over here in ireland the english guy at the start got it right but yours is typical elitest american shite. iv driven hundreds of miles to rallies winter and summer on my lambretta its whats inside that makes you a mod anyone can dress like a mod but like you their plastic wannabees you would not last 5 mins over this side of the world

  • Of course we are self centered wankers.

It's because we look so good. Idiot.

  • "Of course we are self centered wankers.

It's because we look so good. Idiot."

hahaha I can relate to that.

  • Me too.

  • well said

  • Who says these mods don't drive hundreds of miles. I'm not a mod, but I have freinds who do and have driven hundreds of miles on their vespas--in the states. Just admit that you are an american hating wanker yourself.

  • Hundreds of miles ain't nothing. Some of us ride cross-country. In Canada that's thousands of miles.

  • bla bla bla bla bla dribble
