Just because great players get together to make music, doesn't guarantee that the result will live up to the expectations of the listener and maybe mine were too high for this date. Surely we've all heard great music by much lesser musicians and awful music from great musicians. For me, the whole is greater than the sum of its parts and here, even Vinnie's playing couldn't save this tune.

@Cambodia69 What do you mean by "happy"? I love how well balanced and moody their playing is. Like Landau. He plays all the notes there are in his solo (pretty much) but sets them up in a way that it creates a mixture of colors. I get frequently bored of listening to music that's either minor or major. There are lots of other colors you can get by mixing. He starts with a relatively darker sounds and then suddenly kicks in major 3rd. That's what makes him so interesting to listen. Unexpectedness

@maksmail - "Happy" as in a "smoove jazz" kind of way, e.g., Kenny G, The Rippingtons, Najee, Boney James, Four Play, etc. Remember, I'm referring to Mathieson's keyboard patch and not their musicianship. I like warm, organic sounding, keyboards that stand the test of time so, for me, this patch sounds dated and reminds me of an 80's Yamaha DX-7 or other awful 80's keyboard. For me, can't go wrong with a classic Hammond B3, Fender Rhodes, ARP, Sequential Circuits, E-Mu or today's Nord Lead.

I recommend everyone to listen to an album which was recorded later, called "Another Night At The Baked Potato". No Colaiuta this time, instead plays Laboriel jr. Song Goyo in particular is so totally different, only the main theme is similar. Both of these albums are such a kickass!

@7spqr7 U can find this song in Abraham Laboriel's "Dear Friends" album, it's a very simple version with Abe Laboriel Jr playing drums. That's actually one of my favorites on that album but this version is just sick!!!

@winnerbaby44 He's not too bad on Five Five Five, Why Johnny Can't Read, and Canarsie from FZ's 'Shut Up 'N Play Yer Guitar' which has Vinnie at his unequalled best imho.... He's also done some really brill stuff with John McLaughlin and Chick Corea on their live Five Peace Band recording. The man really is terrrrrrrrrrrrrrifck!

I can just see Abe bouncing all over the place on this one. He is the "jumpingest" bass player I have ever seen! Brilliant player and very cool down-to-earth guy. Talk about a wicked and wild bass solo. Too bad Abe couldn't just put a bit more passion into his playing... J/K! :^) Love your playin' Abe. The rest of the band is insane also. Cheers.

This sounds like that upbeat, happy, "elevator fusion" made by anonymous studio musicians for students attending Musicians Institute. I always expect, when great musicians get together, that the result will be disappointing and this was no exception. I understand they need the money but still, considering what they're capable of, it's embarrassing.

And it's the keyboard sound that gives it that happy, toe-tapping, dental-office-lobby-background­-music feeling that ruins it for me. Otherwise, yes, the playing - particularly Vinnie's - is sick. As always, Michael sounds great and Abraham Laboriel, while I'm not a fan of his tone, surely has his own, unique, voice on the instrument. I'm still sticking with my original comment though because of the tune and Mathieson's sound.
