  • I feel lame for asking but did he answered why its called "mars hill" church?

0_0 i replied like 3 time and got nothing!

LOL! it's funny though how late the serivces are, lastest is 8PM lol!

    :)

  • this guy is awesome.

  • I think I’ll wear a t-shirt of Jesus with a Nazi uniform, is that cool with you? It a fucking awesome idea!

  • @RyuzakiLRyuuga - If you actually listened to the teaching you would have learned that Mars Hill was were all the top religious leaders and theologians met in Athens back in the day. Paul went to Mars Hill to share the gospel.

  • Does anyone know if Mars Hill teaches rapture doctrine?

  • How do you justify wearing an image of God on your shirt? You are in violation of scripture.

  • God's using this church.

  • Wish I could attend this church

  • Paul's cool!

  • I thought he was gonna say why his church is called Mars Hill Church.

  • @RyuzakiLRyuuga right? I kept waiting for him to get to it.

  • @soopahsoopah This man contradicts himself so much, the name it self shows that it's a religion Mars Hill CHURCH or better yet an cult as mattrichanderson likes to put it. But who in the world is "Mars Hill" was he a holy man, a prophet a strange name for God or Christ ? But please, please don't tell me a Church is named after a dumb Hill if so then mattrichanderson is must definitely right haha I don't believe God would name his Church after a Hill and not his Son.

  • 7:10 Jesus t-shirts are funny but the bible doesn't think so....Hey Mark can I ask why you have a t-shirt of jesus? One of the ten commandments in exodus 20:4 clearly states "Thou shall not make unto thee any graven image or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above.....

  • @tario26

That's because we don't know what the Father looks like. We'd drop dead at the sight of Him. We already know what the Son looks like, though.

  • @tario26 I know right, I was just thinking the same thing. I mean, who does this guy think he is.. he probably just wants to make his religion to look cool for teenagers or something..

  • @RyuzakiLRyuuga To take things in truth Its not to say that he doesn't have some good biblical information....I just think we should be cautious on the commandments thats all...I do agree however with some of marks other teachings however...I think God should be portrayed as what he is king of kings lord of lords and not as weak and suffering as some may or as comical relief as in this case...just my thoughts

  • @tario26 SERIOSLY are you that dumb? exodus 20:4 “ Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth"

in your context you are saying not to draw anything. art is bad. God's context, dont make an IDOL!

5"Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them..."

holy frickin DUH!! stop being a moron and read the bible. so obvious that he is talking about idols.

  • I just wonder if he understands "not being conformed to this world" as well as "Cultural Relevance" is not Jesus' Way.

So the Hip Cool guy stuff, and Jesus depicted as Loving/cooperating with things of the world, is quite confusing.

It's one things to preach 1 Cor 9:22, and another to Selectively apply it only as you are willing, and not as unto Bending Over Backwards to get Lost man attention with every worldly entertainment medium.

It's a little convenient & confusing of a mixture here.

  • @Qaill1 In Mark's book "Death By Love". He talks in the opening about renovating religion, about this he says "Theological innovation is inevitably the road to heresy". He doesn't innovate the Church or Jesus, and that's what matters.

  • "welcome all you guild leaders: Jesus died for you too." awesome

  • Is he wearing a t-shirt of Jesus -his crucified lord and savioour- mixing a DJ set? LMAO.

  • Go Mark. Taking Christianity to the 21st century and preserving the Gospel as it was meant to me taught. Awesome.

  • @grippipo Christianity cannot be 21st century and preserved as it was meant to be taught. It's 2000 years old.

  • In The Shack Video The Video Revolved Around God Being A Graven Image. How Is The Jesus DJ T-Shirt Not A Graven Image?

  • Good pint, man.

With all the respect to Mark...

  • @AndoodJames Perhaps its simply an outward expression of an inward faith. It depends on the individual not 'your' interpretation as such. I realize it may mold Him to our image the context of the shack portrayed the holy spirit as an asian woman. Christ in this image is simply a traditional depiction of a middle eastern jewish man at the time. Both are wrong as they attempt to imagine the trinity however the purpose and circumstance is completely different. Peace be with you.

  • @AndoodJames It kind of reminds me of the "Jesus is my homeboy" shirts.

  • long live jesus christ the god of israel our father we will praise u and wait for ur second comig.....

  • lol....guild leaders. That's awesome.

  • Gracias Mark por ser fiel al Evangelio. Oramos para que sigas adelante con tu ministerio

  • i would also like to say that pastor mark is one of my favorite teachers. he takes a lot of crap for being "hip and fresh," but its just who he is. hes a man who likes to laugh and chillax. i think its super cool to learn from someone so wise who can also laugh about things, like sex.

  • @asiankid125 You can learn from books too. Preferably non cult like books. There are millions of books, also about sex.

  • sorry, i think this video missed the little excerpt where pastor mark related that Areopagus is translated to english as "mars hill." the greeks didn't even really seem to have a reason for it. it was more of a religious thing. thats the foundation for this clip.

  • you have to stop being a hater... if watching the "idiot" bothers you... don't watch. You saying that here will do nothing at all. so don't waste your time.

  • "Driscoll's New Calvinism underscores a curious fact: the doctrine of total human depravity has always had a funny way of emboldening, rather than humbling, it's adherents." Molly Worthen, NY Times.

  • its too bad that you have to quote other people to make yourself sound like you know what you are talking about.

and as far as miss worthen is concerned, she obviously is missing the point. the doctrine of human depravity IS EMBOLDENING. it tells us that we suck. we get failtaculars all the time. but when we love Jesus he forgives us for being so human, and waits patiently until we will be brought together again.

  • this comment is aimed at adamwilliams4405. it didnt reply like i wanted it to.

  • You're a very competent person. I've been getting so tired of trying to watch Mark Driscoll, and Rob Bell and seeing comments from all of the skeptic christians, as if everyone on youtube has a phd in theology. haha. Mars Hill turned me to God, it was the only way I'd open the harbors that guard my heart.

  • I loved this vid I laughed the whole way though, thanks for being a 21st century church.

  • God, Inc. releases a flashy new product and shoppers rejoice.

  • Makes plenty of sense to me XD It all makes sense now =)

and *bursting in laughter at billiefan2000*

"thinks" he can use discernment, obviously a bit too quick on the judging part though. I sense ignorance.

  • Should I listen to the complete sermon for the answer? He still didn't explain the meaning for the words. Maybe the original intention was to keep the church relevant up and through our colonization of the Red Planet...lol.

  • I've enclosed a definition:

Areopagus the Latin form of the Greek word rendered "Mars' hill." It was a rocky height to the west of the Acropolis at Athens, on the south-east summit of which the council was held which was constituted by Solon, and consisted of nine archons or chief magistrates who were then in office, and the ex-archons of blameless life. On this hill of Mars (Gr. Ares) Paul delivered his memorable address to the "men of Athens" (Ac 17:22-31)

  • "...some churches are on the cutting edge of the 17th century..."

    Hilarious.

  • You imply that Mars Hill and others like it fit the 'lukewarm' description. What evidence do you have for this?

Mars Hill and churches like it are not lukewarm. It is evident from the gospels that Jesus wanted his disciples to spread the word and help people. If a church does these things, then they are probably not lukewarm. Now, consider that Driscoll has always preached that his goal is to reach the city and love the city with the gospel (see the Nehemiah series for the best example).

  • Billiefan, is there anyone you can criticize intelligently and with some context? I see you all over Youtube insulting ministries with coarse remarks and one-liners. It's really sad.

  • so you are saying I should just have itching ears and not use DISCERNMENT

  • the idea that anyone could acuse mars hill of being lukewarm is simply hilarious. you've obviously never been there, or even read much about it. mark driscoll is incredibly passionate, as is the church as a whole. it's because mars hill dares to be piping hot that it gets so much reaction, positive and negative. i've never seen a church less likely to be called lukewarm. there are a lot of things mars hill has been acused of, but this is just so far off it's funny.
