This commercial aired EVERYWHERE. It not only outlived John Williams but also outlived Vista Marketing, LPs, 8 track tapes, and cassettes! My favorite moment is when he clicks his tongue before saying, "Ah, it's a priceless collection." Thanks so much for posting!
JOHN WILLIAMS: 'I'm sure you recognise this lovely melody as STRANGER IN PARADISE. But, did you know that the original theme was from the Polovetzian Dance Number Two by Borodin? So many of the tunes of our well-known popular songs were actually written by the great masters - like these familiar themes...'
'And now, all of the best-loved melodies from the classics, have been gathered by Vista Marketing, into a big four-record collection. Yes, here are 120 of the greatest works....'
'...Strauss, Beethoven, Schubert, and many more - performed by Europe's finest musicians. Ah - it's a priceless introduction to the classics, that will enrich every home. But, there's a great deal more; you also get this special collection of piano masterpieces. Thirty of the most beautiful melodies, ever composed for the keyboard.'
ANNOUNCER: 'Yes, now you can get one hundred and fifty of the world's greatest music masterpieces all for only $12.98. This collection is also available on 8-Track cartridges AND cassettes, for only $15.98.'
JOHN WILLIAMS: 'Yes, here's a unique opportunity to own a complete library of the world's most beautiful music. Here's how to order.'
@davidsegaldrums Yup! I grew up in the 70's & early 80's in New York & watched WPIX all the time. I searched for this to get a little piece of nostalgia.
Wow! I haven't heard that since the '70's! WKBD TV 50 in Detroit played it all the time. Thanks for putting it up. I cringed at it when I was a kid, but what a trip to hear it now!
Someone had listed this once before on You Tube, but it was taken down for some reason. Ever since I've searched for it. It brings back such memories for me ~ as a child ~ growing up on Long Island. Hard to explain, but I've always found a peaceful/ magical feeling every time I've seen this. That feeling still hasn't been lost within the passage of time. Thanks so much for posting this. Classic stuff.
I could not remember that song, our love, all I remember was the poyisian dance no 2... That's what I heard as a kid, now I know that wasn't the title. Again thanks, lookin forma little nostalgia
Though I was no longer a child when this came out, I think it may have been the first commercial I ever saw that gave me a genuine twinge on behalf of its presenter...though Mr. Williams probably made a nice piece of change for appearing in it. Certainly much more than I now make teaching "Survey of Art and Music" for a junior college, to students who take the class because they are required to. And I don't even have a cool accent.
Thanks for uploading!! What person that grew up in the 70's/80's being the TV generation wouldn't remember this if they saw it, it was on often. John Williams was a classic. I liked him in everything he did, from Dial M for Murder to being the "other" Mr. French. Though I've never had an appreciation for classic music, it was great to see this as an old reminder. LP's, 8 track or cassettes. How funny this would seem to the kids of today, huh?!
Awesome..I remembered this from watching tv as a child in the early 70s..it was on all the time!Been looking for it on here since I discovered youtube years ago! I knew it was the right one too when I saw the harp with Beethoven in front of it!!! Thanks!
@bjroberts65 That is the "Warsaw Concerto", which used to be semi-popular in a pops music sort of way. I've always thought it sounds like movie music.
I remember this way back when I was a little kid. That was before I started getting into classical music. Almost every one of the works shown and heard I have in my CD collection (complete versions, not just the famous excerpts).
I tend to avoid such collections because they would be only excerpts, or sometimes not even complete movements, from symphonies, concertos, sonatas and other such multi-movement works.
This brings back memories from when I was a kid. It's one of my earliest memories too.
