Dolly came of age at a time when huge, elaborate women's hairdos were in fashion, and that obviously strongly affected her entire appearance. I think it's really interesting to see her high school yearbook portraits when she's still young - she's always been pretty, but in those photos her look is not as extreme as it became within a few years.
