  • Biggest game show perve ever.

  • He seemed like a great guy.

  • The BEST game show host ever!! Thanks for the memories Richard:)

  • WTF was number 1?

  • I loved Dawson as a Fued host, but I'll always like him better from Match because he was himself on there without all the writer input. So my order would have to be Dawson, Combs, Anderson, O'Hurley, and Karn.

  • @ilovecampcar22

    and more recently steve harvey.

  • Richard Dawson is from the South of England less than ten miles from where I live and have grown up. Why does he speak with an American accent? He left England at 23.

  • @bigbosscentral90 His accent decreased little by little over the years and then just sort of suddenly went almost to zero.

  • @AvuncularFeldspar If you watch the episodes of Hogan's Heroes, he speaks with a fake Cockney accent :P

  • @111knucklehead after he was fired his finances went down the drain, then his wife divorced him, then he was admitted into a psychiatric hospital for suicide, THEN he committed suicide

  • Dawson > Combs

  • The crowds reaction was genuinely moving. :)

  • For the time 70's-80's he was considered classy; if he were in the game now, a lot of the stuff he did then would be considered harassment. But he is an original no doubt. #1 in my opinion

  • I like watching this, but when I watch this I can't help but think how much I miss Ray Combs.

  • Richard Dawson is the best host of Family Feud, there hasnt been another host that has been as beloved as him.

  • @johnnycajxrt What about Bob Barker?

  • @puttputtking as far as i know, Bob Barker never hosted Family Feud

  • @johnnycajxrt I didn't know you meant Family Feud. I thought you meant any other game show host in general.

  • 1: Steve Harvey

    2: Ray Combs

    3: Richard Dawson

    4: John O'Hurley

    Best 4 IMO

  • My top 3 favorite Feud hosts:

    1. Ray Combs

    2. Steve Harvey

    3. Richard Karn

Richard Dawson is one rank above Anderson, IMO. Dawson, to me, is the second worst host of Feud due to his constant kissing of female contestants that really turns me off since 2006.

  • I get creeped out every time I see Richard Dawson constantly kissing the female contestants. This is a good enough reason why I miss seeing Combs' Feud on GSN nowadays. Right now, if I were to watch any version of Feud, it would be Steve Harvey's by a landslide. At least Harvey's version would do me until the day Combs' Feud was to return to GSN.

  • @JonSea31 - Are you serious?? Ray combs?? The dude was horrible!! C'mon, man....

  • @Drumrdude1973 u have no taste. combs was very good

  • 2 people don't know that Richard Dawson is a P-I-M-P!

  • My favorite hosts, in order, are Dawson, O'Hurley, and Karn.

    Living legend, Dawson.

    ^_^

  • What was number 1 "family feud moment" as voted by the viewers?

  • Best hosts: Combs, Dawson, Anderson

Worst: Harvey, Karn, Hurley(although Hurley was not embarassingly bad)

  • @iambernig Steve Harvey isn't a bad host at all, in fact he's the BEST host since 1999. WAY better than Lazy Louie.

    Top 3 hosts:

    Dawson

    Combs

    Harvey

  • @telewatcher89 Roger that!

  • @telewatcher89 Combs was retarded!! I'd go with

    1 Dawson 2 Harvey 3 O'Hurley. lol

  • @whatimesit at least it ain't drew carrey lol

  • @TheAlmightyJoker It's Carey, and what's wrong with Drew Carey? He is doing a good job hosting the TPIR!

  • @whatimesit What do you mean Combs was retarded! He was the best in my opinion. My choices are

    1. Combs

    2. O'Hurley

    3. Harvey

  • @iambernig

idk, i actually thouht Karn was a pretty good host! ^.^

That Louie guy just sucked though... -.-

  • Wow.

  • poor Ray, what a lost soul . . . r.i.p.

  • i cant wait for the steve harvey one..

  • wow he looks so different!

  • that looks like the TPIR set

  • @GameShowThemes Yes, it sure does and actually it's the same studio that the price is right is taped at.:)

  • @luvasia As was Match Game, Card Sharks and Press Your Luck.

  • @TheJamesgordon43 That's right.:)

  • The comeback should have been in 1988. Mark Goodson was very wrong for baning Richard from Family Feud. If he had hired Richard back in 1988 Family Feud and The Price Is Right would have had a great block on CBS. Just like Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune only in daytime.

Also we could have avoided the whole MESS from 1999-2006 and Feud could have celebrated it's own 25th. The only thing they would have to worry about is who would replace Gene Wood as announcer and later on Richard himself.

  • @telewatcher89 I liked Ray Combs though. He was funny. I'm glad he got to do a run even if he got fired by the man he was trying to replace. Although, if Richard did come back in 88 it might have prevented Ray Combs from hanging himself because him getting fired was part of the reason he hung himself. I'm glad Ray got to do some hosting on Family Feud although GSN really keeps throwing him under the bus for taking off his version.

  • @puttputtking I like Ray Combs too, but I believe some of the problems that the show and Ray Combs had could have been prevented if Goodson put his ego aside and asked Richard to come back. Richard cared about Family Feud just as much as Bob Barker cared about The Price Is Right. None of the other hosts cared about Feud as much as Dawson.

  • @telewatcher89 True. I think the Feud was created for Dawson, because if you watch Match Game you'll see most everybody wanted to match with Richard. That's why they started spinning the wheel so other celebrities could have a chance to guess. Since almost everybody wanted to match with Richard, I think Family Feud was possibly created for Dawson and that's why he comes off as a good host, and according to a lot of people the best.

  • @telewatcher89 Also, I heard that Richard was considered coming hosting again in 2006, but he decided to stay retired, or something like that.

  • what does the O.J. trial have to do with The Price is Right?

  • RIP Richard :(

  • @newl0bstr richard dawson IS NOT DEAD!!!!!!

  • @mightydyckerson winner!

  • Dawson is a legend. King of game show hosts right here

  • @DanaDenali No. Bob Barker is the King of game show hosts! Also a legend as well!

  • @puttputtking I second that... Barker, Dawson 1-2

  • @DanaDenali Amen to that, I would much prefer Dawson over Barker

Sure Dawson had some backstage moments, but @ least he wasn't afraid to admit his mistake and when he cameback to Feud in the mid-90's, @ least he ended on a REAL High Note, Barker on the other hand, sure he's been on TV for 50 years, the problem is that he causes too much drama, but unlike Dawson, he doesn't apologize for what he's done and plus, he has issues w/Betty White and Betty got an SAG for being on TV for 60 years.

  • They should've kept this version going with Richard Dawson assuming the helm as host of F.F. cause the O.J. trial was pretty much over in the fall of 1995 when the verdict was read, and since it was over it would've brought the viewers back instantly, so it's their big ass mistake in cancelling it.

  • the man who kissed everybodies wife

  • @uptown1317 and mothers and aunts and sisters and grandmothers and female cousins lol

  • Check out my newest videos on here.

  • What Is The Number of that channel in the east?

  • WWOR 9.

  • what was voted the all-time greatest feud moment? if someone has it, post it plz

    =]

  • It was the episode when Gene Wood introduced Sammy Davis, Jr. and then Richard has Sammy host the first question.

If you search "family feud moments" you'll see the clip with moments 5 through 1 on it.

  • He never liked the Bulls-eye segment.

  • Anyone who had a chance to watch this '94 run of Feud probably remember the DelVecchio family. IMO, they were the most memorable family from this short-lived incarnation of Feud. They were fun people.

  • Its time to start RUNNING!!!

  • I also want to say that it was such an honor to hear Gene Wood say Richard Dawson's name once again, and also, Gene Wood and Richard Dawson were close friends for years and I'm sure that Dawson does miss Gene Wood.

Richard Dawson, The King of the Feud, Ray Combs started out good, but then he got too overrated, Louie Anderson was terrible, Karn was pretty good, but @ least the 300 point rule cameback and O'Hurley is trying to improve and as for Al Roker, he wasn't Family Feud material.

  • Finally. I have been trying to get my friend to c that Anderson was worse than Karn and u have finally agreed with me. Thx.

  • lol

  • Dawson's Return Theme was composed by Edd Kalehoff.

  • This theme sounds good & cooler than all the themes.

  • It'd make a great theme for the current version...I love the classic theme, but it just doesn't fit w/the set.

  • hey... this music & cues stuff is better that the classic theme. I can feel the spirit with the classic s**T, Edd's version kick ass!

  • It's cool, but I don't like how they replaced the second part of the theme w/a loop of the first part, which makes it a bit more repetitive than the original.

  • What do you mean repetitive? I like how they did a jazz, guitar and saxophone style. Sounds good, right?

  • Combs commited suicide -.-

  • in 1996 yea. Combs was fired in 1994.

  • Lol tourettes guy ftw :D

  • Thats wrong. he was the best family feud host in my opinion.

  • It was clearly a Tourettes Guy reference. No need to get your panties in a wad. Dawson owns Combs anyway.

  • Hey there, I have one question:

Now, 1st off, I was SO glad to see Dawson back hosting the Feud after almost 10 years, but, I wonder was Bob Barker so happy to see his I guess to say his old friend Richard Dawson back in the same studio where TPIR, Y&R and B&B are taped?

I'll betcha that Doug Davidson, Bobbie Eakes and Melody Thomas Scott were happy to see him back on Feud once again.

  • These 03 weren't on the Dawson's version, were they? Doug hosted the TPIR in the evenings.

  • Doug was on the Feud for Soap Week during the 94-95 version and Dawson did mention Doug hosting TPIR and I do think that Melody was on there, too since she is popular on Y&R

  • Also, TNPiR model Julie Cialini did a week of FF featuring Playboy centerfolds that season, and Dawson mentioned her gig on TPiR as well.

  • He should still be hosting damnit.

  • @tygersflowerz, he was considered for the 2010 show. Damn shame he wasnt picked for the job.

  • @talladegajunkie1439 Yeah right. Someone says that with every host change on the current version. The fact is Dawson was never asked to host the current version and Gene Wood was never asked to be the announcer.

Dawson does need to come back now, he needed to come back in 1988. What they need now is a good decent host who's willing to host long term (and not suggest/agree to messed up changes like Louie Anderson).

  • @talladegajunkie1439 I just heard Steve Harvey is taking over. I think he's the first good choice in a very long time.

  • @tygersflowerz I can't wait to see that.:)

  • @tygersflowerz

    he sucks..

  • @ThatArabGuy You suck more.

  • When I first saw Richard Dawson was back, and it totally caught me by surprise one morning, it was like seeing an old friend again;-)

It may have been short-lived, but it was truly a delight to have him back!

  • was this shot at TPIR studio?

  • Yes. This was shot at the famous Studio 33 AKA Bob Barker Studio.

  • is he alive or dead?

  • He's still alive, he's pretty old though. It would be fantastic if he came back and did just one show.

  • Sometimes I wish he could have stayed with Family Feud for its whole run.

  • I love Richard I dont get why some people didnt, my mom never liked him because she didnt like how he kissed everyone, I always thought he was sexy dont ask me why but back in the day he was very dreamy, I dont know I just think he was charming.

  • and NOW here'szzzzzzzzzzz RICHARD. Lets START the faaaaaamilyyyy feuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuud

  • Richard Dawson was the best host ever!

  • Is this what caused Ray Combs to hang himself? That was a tragedy.

  • that did not happen yet

  • No it did not! His wife and children left him and his comedy clubs went under, though it didnt help matters that he was fired from 'Feud but I REFUSE to subscribe to the "Johnathan Goodson caused Comb's suicide" theory.

  • Loved to see Richard back on here again. Nice set and theme, too

  • I agree. Bring this theme back and him back. Today's set is fine & extend the damn "X" buzzer. short sound one sucks!

  • Great to see Richard come back but hated to see Ray go! I love watching both of them are great!

  • It's on the circuit...the episode is Schneidmiller/Stewart. I've heard it's the debut, but at least two other episodes have been claimed as such, so I don't know when it really aired.

Interesting note...one of the contestants on this show was on Match Game in 1977. She won the Super Match with Richard, and even brought the autographed MG card with her.

  • AaronV1228: That was cold and cruel. I hope you feel good about it.

  • I didn't mean for it to sound so cruel, he has just changed so much.

    I apologize.

  • damn you oj

  • WAIT A MINUTE! If that was the #2 of the count down, WHAT WAS #1!?

  • Sammy Davis Jr. guest-hosting on the original version.

  • Mark Goodson would regret the decision to bring back Dawson for two reasons:

    1) Family Feud would be cancelled a year later.

    2) Ray Combs would eventually kill himself.

  • Yeah...but Combs had other problems in life...his ex-wife for example.

  • And him being paralyzed from a near-fatal car wreck back in June, 1994 is another good example of Ray's problems.

  • I also heard that Mark Goodson wouldn't have let Dawson come back, because when Dawson first hosted, he said something like "Dawson is an a** and he'll never work for me again as long as I live." Then he dies in '92, so in '94 Jonathan Goodson (Mark's Son) decides to bring back Dawson, and I remember seeing another video on here, (I think it was Combs Finale Part 2 of 2. I'm not sure though.) Anyway, they felt like Jonathan was spitting on his father's grave when he asked Dawson to come back.

  • You damn right on that. Jonathan... thank you for bringing Richard back and whomever did the theme here (speed-up jazz theme)... SOUNDS F**kING GOOD!!!

  • Jonathan just followed the advice of Mr. Harris Cattleman who strongly advised Goodson that if Family Feud was going to survive (which it was doing poorly in the ratings in 1993-94) he should bring back Richard Dawson and give people a renewed interest in the show having the original and most identified person with the show back on. Was it the right decision: well given the short life of FF94 I would say no in hindsight. J. Goodson just made a BUSINESS decision that didnt pan out in the end.

  • exactly, he was pressured into making a big change to the show, because they risked not coming back, I heard Joanthon has sinced said he regrets the decision becuase he fears it may have contributed in part to Ray committing suicide later that year.

  • I can see J. Goodson feeling regret, given what eventually happened to Ray. As sad as it was that Ray Combs took his own life, i get annoyed when people over the years have laid the blame of Combs' suicide soley on Family Feud and J. Goodson. It certainly did not help matters to be sure, but Ray could have bounced back into something else, perhaps even a second run at 'Feud later. We'll never know. It happened, it's sad, Rest in piece Ray.

  • His wife was leaving him.. that's what happened.. He wanted the fued to go to an hour long, and the producers didn't want that..

  • I second on this... thanks a lot to the damn triail. Plus... today's FEUD, will be like this... plus the music & game board.

By the way... which theme of FAMILY FEUD is the best?

  • I think (and I'm somewhat guessing cause I ahven't seen too mcuh of this season yet) that Richard jokes alot about waiting so long to come back. I've seen a promo where he said something like "all those years ago, we I left, I forgot to turn off the air conditioning, I just got the bill for $138,000." lol

  • Can anybody tell me how long the ovation was?

  • I was told by someone that was at the taping that the standing ovation lasted exactly 14 minutes and 37 seconds. That audience member just happened to be a track and field runner and had a stopwatch in his coat pocket at the time.

  • Hi Toby:

Well, thanks alot for the info. Is there any place I could go to see the entire ovation? I remember watching The Feud as a kid and Dawson was my favourite host, ever.

  • Go to the studio and start clapping for 14 minutes and 37 seconds. This will re-create the Dawson ovation.

  • He's talking about the FIRST syndicated show.

  • Actually the first syndicated show debuted in 1977, not 1978.

  • You see Richard Dawson never dreamed that he would ever have a job like Family Feud, that's what he said in his Finale at the end of the show.

  • any hardcore gameshow fans realize this was done in the (now) Bob Barker Studio? That's right... the Price is right stage. Look at the floor (white). You can see contestants row. Also... look at the curtains in the crowd shots.

  • how the hell they change it to dawson's set & back to the PRICE set then?

  • Game show sets are not permanent. They are set up and taken down as needed - that includes TPIR. It's been that way for decades.

  • @mightydyckerson I think by the mid 90's, "Family Feud" and "The Price Is Right" were probably the only 2 game shows taped at Studio 33. However, in the 70's you had "TPIR", "Match Game", "Carol Burnett Show", "Joker's Wild" among others being taped at Studio 33. I know stage hands had to been working over time back in those days.

  • @BMANBLAKNBLU tv magic lol

  • Richard was to be the lead in Hogan's Heroes but his English accent was too strong. Bob Crane took the lead role instead. He didn't get along with Crane. Ironically, Richard introduced Crane to the man that wound up killing Crane (Carpenter).

  • Richard's first wife, Diana Dors - whom he divorced in 1966, died in 1984. That might have had something to do with him leaving Family Feud that year. He met his current wife in 1981 when she was a contestant on FF. Then had a baby daughter in 1990 when Richard was 62. He married the mother whom he had been with for 9 years in 1991.

  • Actually, Richard didn't leave the show by choice. The first run of Family Feud ended in 1985. ABC dropped the show reluctantly because the show had dropped drastically in the ratings over time. The show was picked up by Viacom and went into syndication for a brief period before it fianlly went off the air.

  • I didn't know that!

  • Actually, it was already IN syndication at that time, having been there since 1978. It too got cancelled in '85, and aired for one more year in reruns in certain markets.

  • I love Family Feud but this version NEVER took off. Richard Dawson is a really good host but something happened to him. I don't think it was his weight so much it was his energy. They also fucked the show up really bad. Family Feud never regained respect after Ray Combs. Ray was a good host. Louie Anderson stunk like a bad fart,Richard Karnes was boring, but the new guy John O'Hurley is good he brought new energy in the show again.

  • I was so glad when Richard came back, he will forever be FAMILY FEUD, and plus, Ray Combs was OK, but a little too sarcastic, Louie was terrible, Karn was good and O'Hurley is doing a great job so far on Feud.

and also, Richard Dawson coming back to the feud was great, but too bad the pre-emptions of the O.J. Simpson Case caused the Feud to be canned before coming back 4 years later.

  • I was starting my junior year in high school when Dawson Returned for the 1994-95 season even though he wasn't the same man that he was when he did the show 9 yrs earlier. but it was good to see him make an big comeback to the feud.

  • what happened to his pinky ring?

  • Ray combs was better... Yes he was fired they mentioned it on the E! network about the show.

  • "HE'S BAAAACK" after his 9 years on hiatus

  • i miss this theme of FEUD! the jazz speed-up theme was better the the damn joh lewis parker version!!

  • His comeback onto the show sucks. First of all, the old gameboard was made to be just as important as the show's host, and the show's announcer. It was part of the show! The newer incarnations fail because of this. You can't change anything on the gameboard or it's just not going to be Family Feud. And, I don't care for the new music.

  • Richard will always be Family Feud's best host.

  • Does anyone have the full episode from Dawson's first show in 1994?

  • I Remember when I First saw this, I was 9 years old and I was a fan of Ray Combs, I saw this new set and new look with four players I'm said "This is Different." Then Richard came on and I yelled, "MOM!," Something happend!", "There's this old fat guy hosting Family Feud instead of Ray Combs!", and Mom said, "That's Richard Dawson, He was the original host of Family Feud."

  • I was 14 when Richard returned to the Feud; my family and I used to watch him on KABC during the day and on KNBC at night.

  • ENOUGH OF THESE PORN SITES, YOU LOSER!

  • is richard still alive

  • He is.

  • yeah

  • This is a Great Version,And it was great to see Richard Dawson get a standing ovation,as he deserved,Only other host to get that is Bob Barker! I only wish this version lasted longer. And the Theme Song was great, with the Jazzy Opening. The only thing I wish they still had was the Family Room where they did the Pose, and Came on Down.

    More episodes!!!!

  • Richard came back acting like Ray was never host.

  • Because he felt that Ray screwed up the Feud or something, so he came back to make sure his baby was fixed.

  • this set is way better than that junk on the current run of feud..

and the dance remix of the feud theme they used here (it was recorded around the same time as the night time price is right music)(similar sound ot it) would work great on the current show

  • I onced did a report on " Family Feud 1994" in High School a couple years ago and one of the kids said, "Uh Jessy, isn't the host supposed to be Ray Combs?", I asked "Why are you asking me that?", the kid said, "Because of the Sound of the Strikes, the board answer reveal sound in Fast Money, The spectrum Colors on the faceoff podium and The Bankroll-Bullseye Game, Then he said, "Those sounds weren't there when Dawson was host in the 70's and 80's."

  • Richard Dawson and Ray Combs never got along.

  • Where'd you hear this?

  • From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

  • Ok?

  • When I saw this... I was so glad to see Richard back and hear the remix of the original FAMILY FEUD! Also, how in the world, they went to the game board of the Top 01-08 answers?
