if you guys have good hearings you will observe that vai is completly lost on his chorus. gilbert has one or two great licks but his chorus uneventful and lack feeling, it's just technical difficulties and melodic scales linked, even if it's flawless§ it's not sufficient to play as fast as it possible, it's like wanking! timmons's plays rock while gilbert slang toss§§§!!!

I'd say based on the solos, I liked Gilbert's the most. Vai used too much whammy (I know his string broke), Timmons had a lot of emotion and energy. Good stuff.

Strings break all of the time. The tremolo had nothing to do with it.

Steve having a floating tremolo and his constant use of it stretches the strings unevenly exactly like bending the string too much in a certain place it will eventually snap, notice most of the time when a string snaps early it is because it is bent up and snaps.

ir when the whammy bar is used too much the string becomes weak were it is clamped into the tremolo at the bridge.

Once again, it's all about what one likes best. Andy has a bit more of a bluesy or classic, I guess would be the closest thing, approach, with lots of single string leads, augmented 4ths and stuff. Paul is clearly the best straight shredder, and his technique is clearly flawless. And then Steve has awesome tapping and legato, and thinks much more geometrically in terms of what notes to use. Pick whichever one you like better. But don't try and compare their styles, cause they're worlds apart.

How do you qualify "playing circles around" someone? If you mean technical skill, Paul is certainly the strongest and fastest, but what the hell does that have to do with creative expression? u never brok e astring? usually a manufacturers fault in a string, or picking it too hard, or too much tension on the string. u can the string snap and fall in the vid at 2.25. under the circumstances, vai does really well. not many gutarsits could pull off a decent solo out of tune.
