We shouldn't judge a travel based on slow mo, because in slow mo the timing is off. In reality, players take a step while bouncing the ball simultaneously, so that cancels the first step. But when you break it down in slow mo, it'll look like the player bounced the ball first then takes a step. So it looks like he bounced the ball before taking a step when actually in reality he's doing both at the same time.

If this is traveling, then this happens 20 times a game.
In theory this might be construed as a travel. The question is, did the player have full control of the ball completely before that first step was taken. The answer, in most basketball leagues, is no. The "gathering of the ball" takes a step, especially because players move so fast.
This is why, if you slow down breakaway dunks, you can almost always count 3 steps. Kobe does this, Lebron does this, MJ did this, kwame brown does this.

you are able to take two and a half steps. the reason they call it two and a half is because if you are picking up your foot as you pick up the ball they would count it as a half step

no bball league allows 3 steps. however if u land both feet on the 2nd step then it's not a travel. u cannt pivot with either foot tho...u can only jump up and attempt to shoot.

Yes he did take 3 steps so I can see why you would call it a travel. However, he takes the first step before the ball comes back to his hand, thus it is not in his possession so the step is not part of the 2-count rhythm of his scoring motion.

Do you guys play basketball ?! Doesn't look like. In the ball fake he dribbles the ball very hard before his left leg lands, soo it counts as a dribble not a step.
This happens all the time, but you have to bounce the ball hard, if you make it slow it will be a travel.

@EliasJordan3 a half step is a gather in the NBA. A gather, is like jumping off your left or right leg and elevating. If you jump off 2 feet, a gather, looks like a travel, because you naturally put one leg down and then the other before elevating off both. In the NBA this is a half step. But the exception is, you HAVE to jump, if you don't then it's a travel.

@AJVersatility19 what the hell? i didn't understand that at all. it's just 1 and 2 steps when you jump off one leg, when you jump off two you pick the ball up when you hop with one leg, then you land with both at the same time and jump. that one is clearly a travel cause you see he needs one step for the fake and then 2 more.

@EliasJordan3 Well you're thinking of it in a traditional rule. This is an NBA rule that applies to this league only. Every league has their tweaks and interpretations on rules. And again, when he took that step to fake, thats when he picked up the ball. As in he planted his leg as he picked up his dribble for the fake, he's allowed 2 more steps after that. NBA rule, don't try to generalize it.
