When I worked for a Benelli Mil & LE Distributor the M1014 was a limited edition pump action replica of the automatic M4. The stock didn't telescope, it was just for looks.

Not necessarily, some firearms have recoil dampening designs. Take a Galil or FNC in 5.56 vs a M16/AR15. The M16 is lighter but the recoil is less due to it's design.
