climax is atill in the yard but they took th cab off and trucks and were rebuilding the running gear last time i was there.... as for the corscrew trestle i hear they got the money donated andnow just have to get the work done, they are probly gonna start in good weather and helo in the wood cause its in a bad spot
Are there plans to restore the climax? It came from my state and operated out of swandale west Virginia and I would like to see it running even in just a video.
Spent the day on the railroad firing the 7 a couple of weeks ago and she sure got greasy fast! Anyway, I hear the Dixie is ready to be buttoned up and fired again. As for the trestle I've heard there are no plans, yet. It would have to be steel if I'm correct, to meet modern standards. No more wooden trestles allowed.
They're plans for the future are to have three Shays running. This will give them a backup for when they are running two trains at a time in the summer and also there are plans to eventually rebuild the burnt out trestle which would allow them to run three trains on the hill at the same time. These videos were shot while working on an article on the operation to come out in Passenger Train Journal.
I believe they intend to restore it to operating condition, but don't have the time or money to do it... I really hope they can restore her! Roaring Camp is only half an hour from my house... so I would love to have the big 3 loggers nearby :)

From what the workers told me, they would have to have redwoods removed for the trestle building equient to get in there

Man they sure took Dixie apart. I have never seen her in thousands of pieces on the shop floor before.
