I don't think your video is too slow at all. Thank you for making it. I have fostered cats, and two of them were declawed (not by my choice). One of them had a biting problem and the other was so litter box avoidant that he developed bladder problems. I would never mutilate my beautiful cats that are perfect just the way they are. If your video educates just one person and changes their mind about declawing, then you have done a great service. Thank you.
This is a beautiful video. I showed it to my mom because she wanted to get our cat de-clawed. My cats name is Sylvester and we adopted him from a shelter, he is a Domestic Long Hair. He was already neutered. But anyway after I showed it to my mom she decided not to get him de-clawed because he is an indoor/outdoor cat.
I gave two beautiful cats a warm and comfortable home. However I have some very exspensive leather sofas and they were scratching the hell out of them. I didnt want to have them declawed but it was either that, or back to the SPCA. The chances of them making it out of the shelter alive was slim, and couldnt bare the thought of them being put down. So, you do the math. They dont do outside, nor do they want to and They still have thier back claws. They are very happy cats
@kathyk214 And Im suppost to listen to a ramdom person on the internet because? If my cats were in any kind of pain I would know it. Go to my channel and watch the video of my cats playing if you dont believe me. BTW, when could you learn to read a cats mind anyway? I mean...now do you know they are in pain? Cause I would love to learn how to read my cats minds LMAO your crazy.
@SilkyPurr So the two options you considered were declawing or back to the shelter? What about Soft Paws? What about training them to scratch a post? What about using sticky paws (plastic sheets you put where you don't want cats to scratch)? It sounds to me like you are one of those people who puts your convenience ahead of a living, feeling creature. I'm sure that if your cats could speak, they would have told you they'd have preferred to remain whole and unmutilated.
i really appreciate the info. however i dont' think that domestic cats have the same needs as a wild cat. my cats are declawed, but maimed? i don't think so. for the safety of chidren and other animals it is sometimes necessary, esp when the cat is inside at all times. it is the nature of a cat to be carnivorous, yet we feed them very little meat. also the long life they get as indoor cats parlay the need for the claws, imo.
@kathyk214 i do have a dog! And maybe you should get over the fact that people are going to declaw whether YOU like it or not. : ) AND I am soooo over it dear.
@ColtraneAndRain Well dear, in the future it will be against the law like it is in many cities in California. You will go to jail and pay a fine if you declaw a cat there. People that care about the welfare of their cats are fighting and you will NOT be able to. IN YOUR FACE!
I mentioned this video a few times in my comment on pictures-of-cats, but I thought I should say something here, too.
I am STRONGLY opposed to declawing cats. Yet, both of my cats have had their front claws removed at the request of my mother. Yes, it certainly does seem barbaric, especially at first, but I assure you that they are still just as loving and affectionate as normal cats. Their personalities haven't been changed.
There are certain things they can't do, like climb, but they can
@BarnOwl93 It amazes me how people that allow this cruel procedure are in denial. You need to see how much pain they endure after they wake up from surgery. It is the MOST painful surgery (and unnecessary) that you can inflict on your pet.
(cont.) still play and romp and jump and rake litter and -- good grief -- WALK.
This video has the right idea, but parts are extremely exaggerated. I love my cats more than I love most PEOPLE I know, so believe me when I say that I wanted nothing to do with their declawing. However, it does not make them any less of a cat.
@goyer2865 Use caps to glue on your cat toes. A very caring and compassionate vet invented this so people will not resort to such a cruel method. Sorry but I don't understand people that value their furniture more than the welfare of a beloved pet.
We wouldn't dream of doing this to our cats in Britain thought America was like us obviously not!
I'm gobsmacked at the careless barbaric cruelty how is this legal and they call it civilised?! Why do people have cats and not expect them to behave like cats? There's no love for cats involved at all here. Thank you for trying to educate the ignorant and selfish x
@Sheamuscoronation There's a big difference between spay/neuter which prevents pet overpopulation and mutilating a cat for a person's convenience. Your choice of language and attitude make me wonder, though, if there is any point in explaining this to you.
@MsMEHowe i dont see how wat if its a voilent cat who constanly claws at humans if an animal was so violent you had to decide between declawing him and harming a human being wat would you do. i am a christian man are you? because the bible says all animals are here for human use and it values human life above an animals someting i also do
@Sheamuscoronation I believe in God but in a God that put animals under our care, not to use as we wish and be cruel to. How could a loving God want that? Also, I have fostered and cared for cats for many years and never once dealt with one that was violent or constantly clawed at humans. It's not a matter of deciding between two extremes, or human life or animal life. Think about what you're saying. Have you ever heard of a cat killing a person?
@MsMEHowe as a matter of fact i have but that a different story. how about larger 'cats' like lions or tigers would you declaw them to make them safer. you will probably say thats different or that doesnt count but there animals that are put under our care too. I would declaw a lion and if its a house cat it doesnt need its claws to hunt it has its food given too it. so just replace the claws and then opt for the prostetic option. the claws are not sharp so they are safe. but do you opposes that
@MyTinklebell You have an excellent point, but you should know that not all Americans are OK with it. I think it's a problem of ignorance. People are shocked when I explain to them what declawing a cat really entails. Hopefully people here in the US will continue to become more enlightened and this heinous practice will be outlawed everywhere in this country.
Hi, it is slow but I needed to give people time to read the text! Also it gives time to digest the subject. But yes, the modern viewer needs things quick! The timing is in fact fixed (per frame) as it was made using Google Picasa 3 not movie maker software. I like Picasa 3 as it does some nice things and it's easy to use. I would normally modify the timings..Michael

@ColtraneAndRain Get a dog! Cats tend to bite when they get their toes off. Scratching is superficial so get over it!

I felt the same way after we got our male cat fixed. I love my leather furniture, but can't see myself maiming my cat. Oh what to do?
