why are people saying this is a budget car? really? go do some research, this sells for the same as all the other ones, about $500 less does make it "the cheapest" , but really? that's 2% less. you wont save that much. plus you will lose thousands more after you buy it. after all this is the most expensive to own. i am a marketing researcher.
Hmmm... can't beat that for price. But with a 2.0 6spd auto I would expect more than 36mpg hwy. The new Subaru Imprezas get that and they're AWD. You're also paying a good bit more for one though...

I got a 2011 EX w/ the 6SPD Option. And I love the car. Very fun to drive, I have more standard features than some competitors. The motor isn't bad either, it pulls pretty nicely. IMO, it is what the Civic should've been. Handling is great and not boring.
I actually like the styling as well, even though it may seem boring from the outside, the whole driving experience outshines that. Interior is decent, feels cheap, but other cars in its class is about the same.
I bought the Forte 5-door, EX, with all the toys, and I'm very happy with it. It was bought with the purpose of low cost, daily operation in mind, as my project car is just too expensive to keep on the road. Quiet and easy to drive, really love this car... and that's coming from a major car guy.

I really do like Kia designs now. They all look good and quite stylish actually. Best of all, the cars come with equipment that you can only find in Continental cars. And it costs nearly a fraction of the price! I bought my Kia Forte Sedan in 2009 and never looked back since then, loving my car everyday!

Go for the SX if you want a sportier ride and acceleration, it is the sports model. The LX is the intro with basic features but you may add options/accessories. The EX is just and LX with some options as standard equipment. Just figure out what luxury items you would like and see which one comes standard with the most. If you are into tuning the car at all, I'd definitely pick up the SX as its the favored by aftermarket manufactures.
Yeah, but this car a great for a first time buyer, kia helps a lot of people with no credit get into a car. Pay it off in three to four years and your credit is a lot better. Think about, 13k with a downpayment of lets say 4k, remember, no credit so it has to be high. You will pay 9k in about 3 to four years and then you could sell it and go buy your better car with your good credit. Credit building is not overnight you know?
Revival? How about just plain vival? I bought a 2002 Rio Cinco, and as of Dec. 2010, it's still running fine. It was considered junk by many at that time, but I liked it and it's proven to be a good car. This was all part of Kia's consistently improving product. There is no revival, Ms. Presenter. It's been a steady climb right from the start, and in another 4 or 5 years, I'll certainly put Kia at the top of my shopping list.

this thing may be 2844 lb. (+256), but its making a higher amount of torque (167) at a lower rpm (4k)! I drive an h22 accord myself, but damn, kia's come a long way, haha. (info extracted from edmunds.com)
maybe its just my muscle cars that makes me respect that number, or that i've always hated civics (and their drivers), but this is a pleasant surprise.
I rented a Kia Forte earlier in the summer and really loved the way the car handled. It seemed to have plenty of pep & there was plenty of room inside. It didn't feel like a cramped little car at all. My only complaint was that I couldn't figure out how to work the windshield wipers and there was a blind spot with the head rests when backing up. I also later rented a Kia Rio and it was a piece of junk--it was a bare bones car and I hated driving it. It also did not ride/drive smooth.
@rollercoastersrock I don't know that I even noticed what version it was as I was not really that knowledgable about Kia's in general then. It did have power locks, electric windows, & cruise control so it was maybe not the cheapest version. I read that cruise control was not even an option for the Rio until 2010 so I likely drove a 2009 Rio that 2nd trip.
@rollercoastersrock I don't know what model I had. It had power windows, cruise control and the normal bells & whistles that come standard w/larger cars. CD player was great & speakers sounded good. It's not a real expensive car but is better for the money compared to the smaller Rio which seemed to not be made as well.

Many (15) years ago an uncle has a Kia, that was a crap car, but few (5) years ago my mom buy a new brand Kia (Rio) and let me tell you people my mom is a car-killer and this car has passed the test of destruction, and I mean my mother. I personally recommend this brand because it has proven quality and durability assembler. Of course it is not Mercedes Benz or BMW, or Porsche and never will, but it is a good brand.

I own a 08 A4 Sline turbo it currently sets most of the time now.Ive been driving my 2010 Forte SX what a awesome and fun car to drive and for the money you cant beat it .We also just bought the 2011 Sorento EX. Im not going to lie if it had not been for Peter and his great reputation we wouldnt even of taken a second look at a Kia were thrilled we did !

I leased one of these last December. So far its a good ride, reliable and very good on fuel economy. Not real powerful but if you want to save on gas this is a good choice.
I test drove a Forte yesterday. It was sunny, but it wasn't too hot. It rained 3 hours before. When the salesman pulled out the car from the lot, he had to turn the AC all the way up because it was pretty hot inside. I sat in, it was still hot. I put my hands over the vent but it didn't feel cold. After the test drive, it wasn't hot anymore, but I didn't feel cold either. It is only May, I wonder what it will be like in August. Is the AC just really weak? How about heat?
@Donfun1234 : I live in Texas and I have to tell you that the AC in this car works extremely well. I have no complaints whatsoever. It could have been just the unit you were driving, or if you took a very short drive in mostly stop/start traffic the compressor wouldn't really have had a chance to kick in too much.

I agree with Jessi. It is a nice looking car. It is affortable and the buyers gets a lot for the ban but where is the heat indicator for the engine. I guess for the price of the car the heat indicator doesn't come with it.

It seems they were reviewing the 5-speed auto, which the mpg stats they stated match, but they didn't make it clear. The EX 2.0 is available in 4-speed auto too, with slightly lower mpg.

I'm sorry, but this looks much better than the Lancer's rear! If you really want to go back, Lancer's rear looks like a wannabe '06--09 Sonata rear. If you think Lancer's rear was the first of its kind, look at Lexus IS. You're points are not very good because you have no proof as to where Schreyer got his designs. In my opinion, his designs are a lot better than both cars mentioned! That's good enough for me.

I leased one of these last December. So far its a good ride, reliable and very good on fuel economy. Not real powerful but if you want to save on gas this is a good choice.

I test drove a Forte yesterday. It was sunny, but it wasn't too hot. It rained 3 hours before. When the salesman pulled out the car from the lot, he had to turn the AC all the way up because it was pretty hot inside. I sat in, it was still hot. I put my hands over the vent but it didn't feel cold. After the test drive, it wasn't hot anymore, but I didn't feel cold either. It is only May, I wonder what it will be like in August. Is the AC just really weak? How about heat?

@Donfun1234 : I live in Texas and I have to tell you that the AC in this car works extremely well. I have no complaints whatsoever. It could have been just the unit you were driving, or if you took a very short drive in mostly stop/start traffic the compressor wouldn't really have had a chance to kick in too much.

why Honda Civic is simillar Kia Forte? because honda civic's designer is peter Schreyer.. peter worked VW, Audi of top designer. and design honda's many car..
in 2006 year Kia scout peter(VW top designer) Kia's design president, vice president.. and Kia's designs are change now.
Kia is not small company,, so not copy design.

I agree with Jessi. It is a nice looking car. It is affortable and the buyers gets a lot for the ban but where is the heat indicator for the engine. I guess for the price of the car the heat indicator doesn't come with it.

Don't get on the offensive because I expressed my opinion. May be you find it easier to press a button, I just don't see the point. If you could explain the benefit of having a gadget like this, I would understand your point of view.

It seems they were reviewing the 5-speed auto, which the mpg stats they stated match, but they didn't make it clear. The EX 2.0 is available in 4-speed auto too, with slightly lower mpg.

Informative review. She sounds comfortable when talking. Be aware of body language, though. Don't want to be too stiff. She did really well when inside the car.

Well good for Peter, cause he didnt really design it all he did was took other designs, like the Honda Civic front end, and Lancer rear end and combine it into one. Also i know how to spell Hyundai, i made a mistake.

I'm sorry, but this looks much better than the Lancer's rear! If you really want to go back, Lancer's rear looks like a wannabe '06--09 Sonata rear. If you think Lancer's rear was the first of its kind, look at Lexus IS. You're points are not very good because you have no proof as to where Schreyer got his designs. In my opinion, his designs are a lot better than both cars mentioned! That's good enough for me.
