  • i have a 1985 cutlass right now thats getting a turbo 350 transmission put in it i should get it back tomorrow mine has the Y code engine too which from the factory at the crank is 150 hp and 235 lb-ft of torque and the 9 block is like 170ish and 255 lb-ft of torque my Y 307 has been bored out .030 edelbrock intake and carb summit plug wires and a new distributor no more cats are on it its pretty much straight piped i just need new headers to make her breathe better :x

  • you changed the sound.

  • Cut the air conditioning lines off! I gains horse power!

  • olds 307's from the factory are terrible. If you say otherwise then you don't know anything about cars or engines. Ask any engine builder on earth and they will say the same thing....The 307 is like a sponge!!! you can rebuild them to be decent but from the factory they are disgusting.

  • I'm sorry man but why in the fuck would you waste money on a OLDS307. LOL I know thats my screen name buts thats only because I own two Lesabres with 307's and one is blown and the other is being replaced with a chevy 350. They both have under 100k and they both smoke and sound like shit.

  • Hmm I have an 87 olds with a 307 and 7a heads attached to a 2.14 rear. Aint any problems smokin those gt qualifiers with 140hp

  • My Olds Delta 88 w/307 has 129,000+ miles on it, and running pretty good. Except, for the Rochester QuadraJet Carburetor needs replacing. Check it, GM would've never put an Olds 307 in their other cars such as Cadillacs, Buicks, Pontiacs, etc. from the factory. A Chevy 350 SB is probably the most popular engine ever made, b/c you can do so much with them. Parts for a Chevy 350 SB can be found anywhere.

  • @307OLDS probly because they are reliable and get good gas mileage i have one in a custom cruiser wagon that runs 15s in the quarter gets 23 mpg and has almost 200,000 miles on it all stock internals olds 307s got a bad name because they were introduced in the heighth of the smog era when even a chevy 350 had trouble making 160 hp with all the smog crap on it but a properly built an olds 307 can run with any engine out there performance wise

  • @MegaGuitarboss 23 MPG is a bit much considering brand new they only got 20 MPG highway, but a 15 second 1/4 mile on a stock 307? I call BS

  • I'm probably getting a 1987 Olds Cutlass Brougham. It has the "Y" code 307 and is bone stock with 158,000 miles.. Should I keep the engine and rebuild it or just move up to a Olds Rocket 350?

  • damn man thats a hard one to answer but to be honest if you can get your hands on a rocket,id buid that one.. i like the 307 cuz its reliable and damn good on gas. has plenty of torqe just in case some one wants to play..i dont win every time but its fun giving them a run for their money and telling them u almost got smoked by a 307..

  • Lol what am i doing wrong with my 307 i get like 14 mpg if lucky what you getting with yours?

  • Don't feel bad. I'm getting like 1 mpg. My carb is done.

  • @666Feo666 i just got a 1980 olds 98 regency with this motor havent even drove the car yet needs new back tire the car sat for 20 years and the owner just passed away r.i.p and i talked to his son/daughter and they gave me the car its got 63457km on it im glad i grabbed it before they towed her to the scrapyard

  • @666Feo666 ummm just to clarify a 307 is also a rocket motor rocket was just a name oldsmobile gave to their v8 engines includeing the 307

  • @666Feo666: No it's not. Olds 350 and call it a day. The 307 is reliable, but the Olds 350 is reliable and has the power

  • Like the old saying goes; "If it's not broke, don't fix it".

  • oldsmobile is one of the best engines ever because you can swap everything from one motor to the next like the oldsmobile 350 diesel cadillac project i got going on everything goes on the 1971 olds cutlass 350 gas motor 8 quart oil pan from the diesel valve covers pulleys etc. doc olds was thinking everything is inerchangeable so there isnt a problem....

  • Had a Chevy 307 in my 67 Impala. Did a nice job in a 4000+pound car with Powerglide 2 speed auto and 3.08 rear.

  • @Nivicoman The Chevy 307 was only made in the late 60's to the early 70's A Chevy 307 IS NOT an Olds 307

  • @RedogOnyx Oh I know it was only made those years. The Chevy 307 I had in my Impala was a 72. They never had a 4 barrel like the Olds. Chevy 305's from 79 on had 4 barrel carbs and more horsepower than it's predescessor.

  • I have a 83 buick lesabre with a olds 307 as of today 198,000 miles on it. It supposed to have 148 HP @ 3800rpm and 250ft lbs of torque @ 2400. Yes you can do burn outs with it but not a great performer by any means. The engines are legendary for taking punishment and being reliable . Have 2 parts cars, cars and motor are hard to find due to the fact because of demo dirbies and being turned in to race cars (bomber aka run what you brung).

  • how much horse's?

  • i wish i new but i would put it up against any stock 350

  • @666Feo666 The 307 Y has 140 hp and 255 ft lbs of torque. Runs the 1/4 mile in the low 18's high 17's Put it up against a stock 350, Olds, or Chevy, and you'll lose

  • id say around 250 hp

  • I have a 307 in my 1985 Eldorado Biarritz and it runs great but not powerful at all. Mine is pretty much stock except for my Eldebrock intake manifold

  • i swapped the 307 for a 350 n its way stronger n way better throtle response

  • @SickdogX3 the size of the engine has nothing to do with throttle response

  • I love the sound of carbs sucking in that air!

  • Hell yeah

  • how much power increases adn how difficult waere these upgrades. I recently got a pontiac parisianne with an olds 307.

  • whats wrong with moddin a 307 it has a bigger bore than a 305 and a shorter stroke than a 305 so why dont you idiots do a lil research before dismissing the 307 as a junk motor

  • actually the 307 has almost quarter inch longer stroke and a little bigger bore than a 305. i love the 307!!

  • Their compression is 7.5 stock making it an excellent choice for an engine for torque, but their horsepower was lower. My 87 was rated at 140, while a chevy was 160, but less torque. But that's not at the rear wheels, i don't think. It said bhp, which I think its the power the tranny is receiving, which could mean the olds motor put more to the rear than the chevy.

  • @veltpak6 no the 307 has a shorter stroke and larger bore than a 305 chevrolet

  • I built one for my 82 cutty, milled the heads for 10.25:1 comp, used stock 73' 455 cam, and headers w/ 3.73's out back, and at 3,400lbs or so,ran 14.9 all day at the track.the piston skirts and rods stock are not that great ,but get some federal mogul replacement stuff is made a little better,i have put about 137.000 on it and i beat the hell out of it all summer at the track, so, go for it i say. i also built a 260 olds motor like this,it ran mid 15's.

  • i have a 83 olds regency 98 how do i find out the motor size i c the 307 has blue value covers and 350 has gold

  • 307's are junk,I've had 2 they have no power and throw rods very easy

  • Comment removed

  • u can also get a 403 and put everythang off the 307 on it!

  • Get a 350. You can put all that stuff on a 350 too. It looks good, but the 307 isn't that strong of a motor

  • I drive an '81 98.

  • MrReality i have a 83 98 regency where do you find tour parts

  • I usually have good luck at advance auto for most parts considering they made so many of those olds 307 v8s parts for the engine are pretty easy to come by. Pretty much any decent auto shop should have parts for an olds 307 since it was such a common engine. I lost a chrome splash guard over the summer so eventually I am going to go to a junk yard to find a new one when I go home for winter break. Unfortunately body parts are more difficult to come by. Keep driving that Oldsmobile!
