3:27 in the last take DeNiro missed the sarcasm for a brief moment when Brando said "6 million pennies?" DeNiro asked for "6 million". Brando responds "6 million pennies?" and DeNiro says "yes". DeNiro realized his error the second after he said yes. LOL
@kilosolutions DeNiro wasn't being sarcastic. His character isn't trying to be sarcastic. His character truly wants out of the game. He's being sincere with Brando. Not sarcastic. I think he missed , for a second , when Brando said 6 million pennies. I think if DeNiro had caught it he would've said something like "Look. Stop playing around. I'm serious. 6 million dollars". I don't think him saying "yes" to "6 million pennies" was meant to be sarcasm. If so then it wasn't obvious.

Well this 1st thing both actors know is that this is a meeting scene. Brando knows he's trying 2 find out from Bobby D whether or not he'll do the job which sparks the first question but his reaction to Bobby saying yes is different every time. DeNiro knows that even tho he's going to do it there are certain circumstances so one of his points is 2 tell Brando he'll only do it for a certain amount and why. Brando knows he eventually has to give in. What they do inbetween these points is up 2 them
@xplaybwoix If anything they knew they had to hit certain points. I work on film sets and there are times where its strictly improv. Kind of why its never the same twice in what you see here. The director just took what he liked.
During the second half of his career, Marlon Brando would refus to memorize his lines--choosing instead to read them of cue cards planted in various places. Notice how he looks in different spots during the scene.
Robert De nero is such a great Actor he really knows how to get into charector, Brando is just a legend love how he improvised on the spot in both takes.

Yeah except there were no lines in this it was all improv so he had no lines to learn. But you are correct about him being lazy in his later years.
