  • The rhumba as a dance operates on a contrast between slow and quick steps. G & P don't have that anywhere in this performance. It's all about speed and doing the hard techniques to them. T & D's rhumba is a true rhumba; the sensuality comes in the slow movements of the music and the dance and carries over into the fast movements. The judges were doing their business as usual judging and not judging on who was able to bring both technique and the spirit of the dance together.

  • I guess it makes some bad people feel better about themself after trashing another ones...

  • Torvill and Deans OD was much better. Grishuk and Platov didn't really catch the mood for me.

  • First of all, I like Torvill & Dean too, but after watching their OD 1994 Rhumba (watch Torvill & Dean 1994 OD on youtube). I must admit Grishuk & Platov 's OD was much more difficult. T& D's OD lacked of power, technically less difficult, they skated hands in hands & side by side alot. G&P 's OD was really hard to excecute, she often skated between his legs, which was very difficult, very easy to trip and fall. Their hand holds were inventive and high level of difficulties as well.

  • In term of creating the sensual mood, I think both couple did it well. In term of technicality, Grishuk & Platov had the edge. Since this is Olympic Competition, the program must contain high level of difficulties. A competitive dancer myself, and I am not a fan of Ms. Grishuk due to her attitude & personality, but I must be fair and think G&P outskated T&D.

  • The judges did not see it that way. Gritschuk and Platov were a distant 3rd in the OD while Torvil and Dean won it hands down. Gritschuk and Platov did well in the CD and FD which is why they won, not because of their OD.

  • In addition, Grishuk's turns (twizzles, in this case) were unsual. She made it look like she was going to turn clockwise, but she ended up turning counterclockwise. She created the illusion and went against the normal momentum, it is very difficult. Her brackets, choctaws, outside mohawks, and twizzles were completly smooth and secure. I personally think the final standing, and they fact that they won were fair. I still prefer to watch Torvill & Dean more though.

  • Well even though they won the overall gold Gritschuk and Platov finished only 3rd in the OD. So obviously the judges felt the same way.

  • beautiful skating! thanks
