@19941MZ As long as it is video to video, audio to audio, and image to image, you should be fine to try. The only limit is weather it is a more rare or less known format that FF was not programmed with. But it is worht a try none-the-less

Hey, Im downconverting a 720p HD video to SD to be played on a low power mdeia center ( XBMC on original Xbox ).

I been having troubles with the bitrates and what not and was wondering if you knew about bitrates and could tell me what a good bitrate would be without distorting the video but at the same time stopping the video from dropping and skipping frames.

The containers I am using are MKV to Avi.

@jwerner2 that's actually just a big avi issue. Unless you can find a way around it in convert settings it's just how anoying avi is. I think there should be something in convert settings about that.

@Pirate92a thanks, I actually never have problems with Avi files. My troubles are with MKV x264 720p HD. Avi is my preference. Im just having troubles finding the correct bitrate and fps.

All you need to do is drop it into the convert bucket and when the window pops up letting you choose what to convert it into, then select "All to .wmv" then convert.

Format Factory 1.80 is what he has and you maybe have a 2.0 version thats why you have so many problems

"convert options" close to the "start" button in there you can change size, rate, aspect, and a few others. But there should just be a drop down menu in those options to choose types of sizes and stuff.

When the file is in the list ready to be converted right click it and click "convert settings" then set the quality and size. I don't really mess with "video stream" or "audio stream" or anything in that area so don't worry about that stuff.

Try reconverting, this happened to me once before. If it doesn't work try converting to avi to import to wmm. If all else fails, try any FAQ or contact info on the format factory site.

i converted a movie from avi to mpg and when it was done i went to the output folder and i it didnt even say it was in mpg i still said avi and i couldnt open it..

Was it .avi originally? iPods usually when opening a video file support .mp4 I'm not sure why it isn't converting correctly, have you tried going to the website and finding an FAQ area?

Well in this tutorial I explained converting gif to avi. But getting a video to gif is a little trickier. Try finding a program (there might  I'm not sure be a link on my website) called Microsoft gif animator. I'm not sure if you need to include the "Microsoft" part but it's what I did. It makes gif images using either an image sequence you animate or a video you have.

When you select to convert it a window should pop up where you can set quality and lenguage. You must from this window check the boxes next to the videos you want to convert (the movie is usually the longest so I do that one. Sometimes ff automatically checks those commentaries so just uncheck them.

You can only remove the subtitles from a movie. When you click "DVD to movie" there should be a "subtitle lenguige" option, open that drop down menu and click "none". Otherwize I'm bot sure sorry.

No not really, but If your running on a windows and media player is up to date, insert a blank DVD and windows will ask you what to do with it, choose "make DVD with windows media burner" something like that. Then use that tool to burn your video files to DVD. COPYRIGHT WARNING: please do NOT burn any movies/videos/pictures/etc. That may be considdered blackmarket or pirated! This note is for my protection that I can NOT be held responsible for anything.

Like GM= Game Maker, i make animated sprites and i want to use them, but their format is not compatible with Windows live messanger, but when i converted them into a second gif file once, it worked o-o

This is probubly a reading error like thing. It happens when a program makes a type of file then the file it is makes is set to open with that program and is hard for opening with others I have this in my editing too.

Try to convert them into the same format and it makes the file fresh for use and is easier to open with more programs. If it still doesnt work you can try looking into animates jpg files, almost the same as gif but I havnt ever looked through format factory to see if it opens with it but it's worth looking into.

If I'm right wmv is a video format, and mp3 is more sound. You can try but if it doesn't work you have to convert it to mp4 which is a version of mp3 that mainly supports video, and is used most commonly for mobile devices.

how about converting video files to gif? it doesn't work for me.. it only gets the first 10 seconds of a video and converts it to gif.. i want to set a time where the gif will start and finish..

To convert video to gif try a program called gif animator. It should be easy to google and it's so simple it doesn't even need a tutorial.

Well, as said earlier you should contact format factory, and this tutorial is only to show you how to convert something not to help with bug fixes. I'll be making a video soon about that. But anyway, if you are going to try another program you should try looking up any video converter, it's a free program with option to pay for extra but it gets some jobs done.

this could be a few things: Sony vegas has a problem with importing the file type you converted to. If that's the case you could try converting to a differant format. If the above fails try another program called any video converter. But before that you can also try contacting either Sony vegas, or formatfactorys help/support.

Did you try reinstalling the program? Unfortunatly I can only show you how to use the program, I'm not so good with the troubleshooting. If it continues after a reinstall, you should look for a troubleshot on the main wrbsite, or google for help. Google is so awesome!

Hey, you seem to know a ton about this program, so I was wondering if you could help me with a problem I've been having...

Every time I try to rip a DVD in Format Factory, no matter what DVD it is, the audio is always slightly off, usually delayed by half a second. Not much, but still annoying. On top of that, I tried converting a .vob file on my computer to .avi, .wmv and .mp4, and the sound was still delayed. Any ideas of how to prevent this from happening?

Might be your computers processor, in that case there's not realy much you can do accept try reinstalling the program.
