  • ....;)

  • it's amazing!! i don't know how play oud at all, but i wish i have the time to learn. where r u from anyway?

  • his picking hand is amazing!

  • he thanks you ;)

  • sounding great! I play gypsy jazz guitar and the right hand technique looks very similar-I'd love to find out if the Sinti Gypsies of Europe have a Middle Eastern backgroundat all, and if their technique came from there. Maybe it just evolved amongst them as well-maybe it's just the natural result of trying to get the most volume possible out of a plucked instrument. Do you know much about the history of the oud in Spain? Is it played there much today? Is it a very big part of Spanish culture?

  • playing oud in spain is a natural result . because arabs invaded spain .. and created AL ANDALUS kingdom .. they stayed there for many decades .. and the arabic and the spanish merged .. and many of arabic scinces moved to spain .. and music was one of them ...

  • Yeah, thanks-so is the Oud played in Spain much today? Do you know if there's any historical link between Oud playing and the Manouche jazz guitarists?

  • can't be so sure about the link with the Jazz style guitar, but if you consider the historic fact that the oud is the definate father of the guitar, this could probably be possible.

  • a7hla aa3lam

  • salam Habibi Mr.OudProf

can you plz tell me what notes do you play at 0:58 to 1:10 i love that part, and what is the scale you used for this melody?

    thanks

  • Hi wakee7, the melody between two scales (Maqams) one is "Hijaz Kar Kord" (i.e, Kord on C) and "Hijaz" (also on C). The melody within the time window you mentioned is based upon the latter's Maqam (Hijaz).

  • Sounds just like a beautiful dream. I love to combine my flamenco and oud guitars. Very awesome.

  • thank you a lot sigil

  • are you kidding me?! you start with a peace of marcel khalife the add the part that Abady eljoher plays and then you go back to marcel khalife and finish with it ...

de facto ... no improvisations at all its copy and paste! on the other hand you played it clear and very 7elwa .. so great work!!

  • LOL, hey hey, take it easy man ! That could very well be the case. I don't mind quoting from the greatest musicians, and combining. It's all in the background. Yea, I can see a bit of Marcel's, and a bit of Abbadi (well actually it's rather from "Asturias", oroginally by Isaac Albeniz, or the Spanish Malaguiena. Aaaaanyway, relax Max :)

  • Oudproff do you have any cd's I can buy?

  • There is an educational DVD multimedia "Learn Maqamat" that also includes some clips.

  • woooow very nice awsome man

  • Thank you ali

  • OudProff

    you are mobde3 :)

I am someone who has never touched oud before and i would like to give it try and see myself where i stand.

is it possible for me to become a proff like you without knowing the basics of oud?. i am asking this because some of the people posting their vids on youtube calim that they started with full ignorance and without a help from any teacher.

    yhnx n advance :)

  • Thanks kingmalik. Although it's possible to ascend and excell without a teacher for the oud in very rare cases, I would strongly recommend a teacher for at least few months, in order to get a grip on it and start feeling comfortable and confident with it. Otherwise, it can be very frustrating.

  • nice nice nice

  • Thanks x 3 :)

  • Oud's music is so beautiful, its melodies take you to another world, it comforts my mind , thanks for the masterpiece.

I just have one question: Well I've never touched an oud before and I want to learn how to play it, I need advices and the essential tools to learn it, i.e. is your DVD helpful ?

  • Thanks zE2x for reflecting on this clip.

The DVD does include some basics, but would be of more benefit to those with some basic experience with the oud.

  • yeslamo edaik :)

  • oo edaik ;)

  • could u do some video tutorial in how to play oud ?

    ur really gd

  • have done some of that in our educational DVD, check it out ;)

  • cool , but doest like teach beginners to become professionals ?

and how about the tuning how can i tune the oud ?

  • going that far would actually require a professional teacher interacting with you directly. The tuning issue is included in the DVD

  • Thanks Psychedelicircus, email me for tuning details

  • I think this is my favorite Oud (of yours) Mr OudProff. It's hard to tell, but it looks like the fingerboard is slightly raised for better action - and i dont really see a nut up there either. Looks like a sturdy instrument, and sounds balanced from high to low - very nice.

  • Thanks to you mitochondrion. Well, the fingerboard is standard (19.5 cm). Not sure if meant action was higher? it's also standard ~3 mm. And there is a nut (indian rosewood), although smoothly crafted. You seem to have good experience in critiquing stringed instruments by the way. Indeed the sound is rounded an balanced from low to high ends.

  • Thank you for providing such a great resource! I meant that I hadn't yet seen a fingerboard that didn't lay flush with the soundboard on an Oud, thinking it could possibly make for lower action (though I'm no specialist). Very nice workmanship on the nut, and as for it's sound - I guess I've been subconsciously compairing sound quality since I began playing. Either way, it's easy to critique when the playing is good!

  • You're most welcomed mitochondrion

  • malaguena starts at 0:50 :-)

  • please try to be better ! a poor spanish culd say a lot about you !!!

  • That's very nice and kind of you. What would you say if you were a "poor Spanish" though?! :)
