This guy is a fucking dumbass. First of all, on Tell Me, you say "Text [contact name here]" & then it will ask you what you want to say. No, Tell Me doesn't have the context-understanding power of Siri, but no one ever claimed it did. It can't create meetings or anything like that, but it can text people, call people, search for things, and more. Oh, and I didn't see this iSheep say "Open [insert app here]" ;)
siri is siri u cant compare it with else till now for eg if the device asks us a quetion like what should it do and we tell are it asks anything when we reply it it googles it while siri understands and works accordingly
Honestly I hate apple. I think its a dipshit move how they dripfeed new features to milk money out of their audience. Also I love pc and hate mac computers and iPads with a passion. Having said that; when it comes to certain things like smartphones at least, apples way of turning everything in to an easy to use toy works rather well. Ive always liked my iphone and ipod. Ill always love microsoft but they should stick to computers and consoles unless they simplify the interface like apple does.
@TheGnerdyChannel LOL he purposely directed the commands towards what siri wants. Tellme is simply "text Anna" or "open angry birds". Tellme easily stands toe to toe with voice recognition but the implementation is different. Siri tries to make it more like you are talking to your phone.
Both good products that get many of the same things accomplished with a different method. Someone could easily do this same thing and make Siri look bad by using Tellme commands
@shadow479 yep, Apple wins at deceiving little fucks like you. You realize no one actually uses Siri, right? That, and this was a terribly biased competition.
@fucksocietybitch I wouldn't say is sucks ass, there are heaps of other vids of Tellme recognizing the correct words better than Siri. But yes, Siri is i guess better because the way you talk to it is more natural. Like"wake me up at 2pm" instead of "Set alarm to 2pm" But i think its just he aussie accent, other tellMe videos look on par with Siri to me.
problem is Windows Phone uses Command words like for example for texting, you cant say Send Text as with Siri. It's 'Text ContactName'. Still, Siri is way better. There's a wp app called AskZiggy that might be worth checking out. Not developed by Microsoft tho
@2040Tech but my point is that Apple is trying to pretend that it's a new idea (and that it was theirs), because otherwise people would not want to shell out the extra hundred dollars or more buying a phone that has a slightly better camera and a somewhat faster processor when they could get one that looks exactly the same for 99 dollars
@Jonathanok100 Apple never said that Siri is their idea or it's a new idea. It's just that Siri is currently one of the best voice recognition software currently available in the market.
Apple has had Siri for years. When they couldn't think of a good excuse to tell people why they wanted an iPhone 4S, they took Siri off of the App Store and pretended it was a new idea, and the servers cut off access to anyone who had already purchased it, causing them to lose however much money they paid for it with no refund. Oh, Apple is such a trustworthy company...
@Jonathanok100 siri was a company that put the original app on app store, apple bought the company in 2010 and took siri off the app store and worked on improving the technology as well as integrating it into the os, as well as including a voice processing technology called Earsmart into the a5 chip. Thats the main reason why siri isnt available on the older models. Seriously you think Apple has trouble selling iphones? with or without siri people wouldve bought the iphone 4s
@jaybirddanglade but Siri can be hacked onto the 3GS and iPhone 4....sans the A5 chip..
Apple wins by setting up the developer community on the App Store. They can acquire what they like from developers and put it into iOS5 for iPhone 4S exclusively. Comparably, Microsoft believes in developing everything in-house... so they come up with Windows, and Bing... and man, they still haven't got voice recognition down since Windows Vista... :P (Dear mom/ dear aunt)
@Jonathanok100 They never marketed it as their own but technically it is their own because they bought it. And I think Siri Assistant on the App Store was free.
Must admit the Samsung speech processing isn't good but I never had a miss spoken word on a HTC and the results are far better on the windows phone than the Siri program results
If you don’t have an iPhone 4S, but still want to pose spoken questions to your device and let her speak out the answer, give ‘Voice Ask’ a try. The knowledge base behind it is huge (better than Siri) and the voice recognition works better with all accents. Work is going on to add integrated functionality that Siri offers, but for now, it’s a great app that knows details on the strangest of subjects. Get it at voiceask.com.
Tellme got killed but it looks like he was using a UK version of Siri that recognized UK pronunciations. Look Siri would win either way but I think it would be closer if Tellme had localized voice recognition the way Siri does.
@wensou are you dumb, or do you genuinely think australians and britons sound the same? it's also pretty obvious when someone says perth they mean the one in australia
@notrickroll You know what really would be nice is if you people actually contributed something to society except complain all the time. We're in the the middle of the greatest advancement in technology since the industrial revolution and you people haven't contributed anything. You might as well not even exist.
I barely use my phone to talk to people. When I'm in my lab I have to be quiet. When I'm at my house I have music playing. When I'm in my car I don't use my phone. When I'm walking I don't want to look like a crazy person talking to no one. Basically, Siri would be useless to me anyway. Microsoft Tellme is pretty awful but, thankfully, I don't need to use it at all while I'm using my WP7 phone :D
this comparison is well known for being not fair at all, for example if you want to text someone you can't say send text to ... you have to say "text ..."
You know that the MS speech functionality doesn't include all OS functions yet right?..so this video is kinda pointless. The listed functionality of MS Speech is
- Call contact 'NAME'
- Call Phone Number 'NUMBER'
- Redial
- Text Contact 'NAME'
- Call Voicemail
- Open or Start 'APPLICATION'
- Find 'SEARCH TERM'
- Text 'NAME' then 'MESSAGE'
Really really pointless trying to compare the two because they are different programs with different levels of integration, development and direction.
@wehatemacs I must say that I am very impressed with your ability to determine someone's level of ignorance from just two words and a smiley!
But how could you miss the extreme relevance of this comparison? I can't be objective about myself and can not know if I'm biased or not (though I can very objectively conclude that I do not own a single Apple product and am very close to buying a Lumia), but to me this video clearly shows how Apple's solution just works while microsoft's is pathetic.
@raspabas Microsoft's solution isn't trying to be siri. As I said, it isn't designed to make an appointment so it clearly never will. The comparison isn't relevant unless Microsoft decide that they want to make it as over-arching as siri.
I can tell your level of ignorance by not even attempting to make a decent argument or structure a better comment than "u mad". Your most recent comment is far better. But still ignores the fact these two softwares don't do the same things.
@wehatemacs Isn't trying to be Siri? Than what's it trying to be; "Teen Anal"? Microsoft's solution to whatever it is you think they're trying to do, which is to develop something like Siri, is failing. The results shown in the video were so far off from what was voice commanded that to even want to purchase that product is ludacris.
@Kohrnbread I've already listed the actual functionality of TellMe, What more do you want? It's clearly trying to be what it wants to be and not follow apple's reckoning. THIS SOFTWARE DOES NOT DO APPOINTMENTS, it would be like asking siri to paint you a picture in MS paint, it doesn't do it.
btw, Tellme was out before siri, so clearly it's own software
@wehatemacs Who the * cares what software got inspired by what? Every company has stolen concepts and improved them throughout history. The point here is, Microsofts solution doesn't do ANYTHING right, at all. Not even the stuff it's supposed to do. True, this software doesn't do appointments, like he demonstrated. What is wrong with demonstrating how Siri is clearly better?
Both is pointless. No matter how well integrated a speech recognition feature is, it will never become more than a gimmick
@raspabas I never said either were worthwhile. I don't use TellMe or Siri, I use my fingers. BUT, TellMe does work. My point was that that comparing the two IS pointless because they aren't the same thing. Yes you use your voice, but that hardly makes them the same thing. Yes show how great the person thinks siri is, but there is no need to undermine Microsoft's software when it isn't even trying to compete directly.
@wehatemacs I never said you said that, I just pointed it out :)
Alright, you deny looking at this video as a comparison between which does its job best because you think their purpose is too different from each other? Try looking at this video like a comparison between which is better at voice-recognition, and tell me again that TellMe works.
Get it at voiceask.com
@Supsy0 I know right ! fucking Microsoft ! I love WP7 but I do love Siri, Just hope in future update (Apollo) they improve the voice functionality. hate sending SMS when driving because it says all this other irrelevant bs LOL
@Supsy0 TellMe understands certain types of commands and Siri understands other types. If you can't drive stick shift (manual), you can't call automatic better.
i still like windows phone better. I wouldn't use siri anyway lol

@raspabas Again, I don't deny that the voice control may be better, the problem I have is that they aren't comparable past that fact.

Get it at voiceask.com

@Supsy0 TellMe understands certain types of commands and Siri understands other types. If you can't drive stick shift (manual), you can't call automatic better.
