If we are closer to discovering how Higgs particles are relevant to particle physics I think thats wonderful. The things we find in looking closer at the Higgs field may yeild even greater discoveries. We of course only scratching the surface. There is some much more to understand about our universes secrets.
Physicist have not yet discovered the Higgs particle, but found Higgs candidates in 3 different decay chains. More data needs to be taken to make these candidates statistically significant. It is a very existing in terms of physics, because the existence of Higgs particle mean the Higgs field exist which gives mass to matter. FYI. physicist already know the standard model is wrong for several reasons most notably it doesn't include gravity.
@TheZachary86 There are more than one theory that has a Higgs boson. There is a region where a standard model Higgs can exist, and I don't think it's completely excluded.
Even though I am short of credentials in physics, I like to be made aware of discoveries like that. We found something that might contribute to a greater understanding of our physical world.... fuck yeah I wanna know! ;-)
Its just inappropriate to call it the "God Particle", even in quotes. Its the Higgs Boson. Or if you really need something more, its the last brick needed to complete the standard model. The biggest prediction that one of the most fundamental theories in physics makes. Its discovery will cause some more speculative theories to fall and others to raise.
But it has nothing to do with god, belief, or religion.
Your video is good, but you called it the "god particle". I hate it when people do that, its a name that couldnt be further from the truth and calls for misunderstanding and confusion. Mass media slapped this incorrect label onto the Higgs Boson, scientists avoid this term and many openly reject it by calling it the goddamn particle instead.
So i have to give it as thumbs down for now. (i can revise that later if you at least fix the title, and remove meaningless references to god).
in German television, in the news show that most germans watch, the head of CERN said that they are now 99% certain that they got the Higgs, but that 99% just isnt good enough, and that that figure will improve in 2012, hopefully to the point that they can announce it with certainty beyond reasonable doubt.
I am a little bit confused, mostly because I have almost no knowledge in the area of physics. So all of this talk about forces goes way over my head. However, does this "god" particle work as further evidence for confirming the big bang and therefore further provide evidence that there is no god?
It fits the big bang model. as such it helps building a model explaining the origin of space, time and NRG/mater without the need of any creator. But evidence for the non existence of any god in neither possible nor required. the non-existence of any god is the nullhypothesis when it comes to the question of the existence of gods. it is veryfyd by lack of evidence FOR the existence of any gods.
I know nothing of particle physics. What does this all mean for anything? I mean, it seems cool as shit but what does it mean to a curious layman... really?

Yes and no.

but still it's a cool thing.
may the FSM be with you

by the way.
Sorry 4 my bad English. it's ,,, not exactly my mother tongue...

@HDaviator "god particle" is short for "goddamn particle", because it is so elusive. It has nothing at all to do with any deity or religion. Nothing.
In fact, dwelling on the "god particle" term makes one appear rather ignorant.
