I would guess that it's because when the tables are turned like that there's more room for the DJ to operate without the needle/arm getting in the way. Seems more relevant to DJs who scratch heavily though but I guess it's a standard. I've only spun with CDs so I can't really say for sure.

Remarkable selection and cross-genre mixing. Big fan of the Janelle Monae, Capitol A and Future Paradis tracks. Clever mix out of "Lettin' Go" into "Let It Go".
