@Katt560 You have no argument from me there! (Well i am a McCoy fan,) But i do like Stone. He took it to the heart. All his cases. As for Logan, he's my favorite cop on the whole show. I do think the best detective was Goren, but I got use to watching Logan on CI. That's who i saw as Harry Bosch when i read Echo Park.
And the thing that's really funny is that police have really done stuff like this. It's hilarious ( and I'd laughed many times) when I saw police do this type of phony thing. Yes, some criminals are just not too smart.
Why don't they do this anymore?! Dude I'd kill to turn on the news and this idiot believed a copier was a lie detector. Where's the awesome creativity to gain information?
somebody knows were i can find subtitles in spanish for this serie? i can`t find it ! or a translator for the subtitles in english, i really need it! thanks, greetings from argentina!
This is in the opening of the Season 5 of 'The Wire', except Bunk keeps it simpler. Still works like a gem. Who really is stupid enough not to realise it is just a photocopier?!
@nyvbyay Whoooooaaaaaa. Only a racist redneck prick could turn an opinion of preference into a racist matter. Congratulations, you are a dickhead. Now go kill yourself. No, seriously, kill yourself.
@obscure323 Racist? they "investigated" like sloppy niggers. its not racist when the wire, or snoop dogg says it? This gets amazing by season 3 by the way, I just want you to know that.
@nyvbyay Again, if you have to resort to calling people "niggers", and you and I both know the malicious intent you use it with (so don't waste your time trying to proveotherwise), then you are a freaking racist. Face it. Accept it. Be true to yourself.
@nyvbyay You never called the predominately black police task unit a bunch of "sloppy niggers"? Really? Look at your comments. You said it twice. In two different comments. The point has nothing to do with the word in itself, it is the INTENT, and MOTIVE behind the person saying it. You cannot compare yourself to Tupac when he said "I love my niggas" to you saying "Sloppy niggers". These are two different things. Know the culture before you try to justify you racism.
@nyvbyay No, you ruined it by calling people "sloppy niggers". If I anything I aimed at bringing it back to the point: (and I repeat what I said to you in my first post, you fucking racist prick) "The Wire was waaaayyy better than this bullshit."
The series was based on the same book that The Wire was based on. And the guy who produced The Wire wrote the book. So if there's an "authentic" version, it's The Wire. But this is all meaningless - both are great shows, and each has its own particular strengths.
To all who complain why this has been repeated in The Wire: imho this real-life inspired story is so good that it can be told twice, esp. as well-executed as these two renderings.
There is some dispute as to whether it acutally happened, but there is a story out there about a rural police force in Pennsylvania doing something along these lines in the 1970s. They convinced a suspect they had a machine that could tell if he was lying, and it spit out copies from a Xerox every time the officers thought he wasn't telling the truth.
The Wire is the best of all time but Homicide was when it was on in the late 90s the best show at the time, great acting and told it like it was and how it still is!
yeah but on this video the situation was terrible. you don't recognize a copy machine and then get tricked into thinking it's something else. if it happened exactly that way in the 'true story' then that's really sad
@flufffdaddy THat is an actual trick the Baltimore Homicide Unit uses or at least Used to do, because let's face it, how many thugs really knew what a copy machine was back then? I saw this trick being used again on THe Unusuals, a short lived cop show on ABC. It was ok. The cops caught a "cat" killer and did this trick with little effect.
If you watched Detroit 187 last year, you'd have noticed "the board." I think "the board" was also in THe Wire and a couple other cop shows.
if you havent yet, check out "The Wire". i havent seen this series, but the wire is one of the best tevelevision shows ever made. its written by the same guy as this show.
I like the wire alot better because it doesn't follow the classic Hollywood method of making a show. It shows things directly how they would go down in west baltimore and the dialogues in the wire sound more like recordings from real life conversations than written scripts from a hollywood drama.
One of the best things i like about this show is the " Camera work ", truly awesome and interesting. They used to do it on the law and order shows, but for some reason they don't do anymore, and i think they need to start back doing it.
In my opinion Homicide Life on the Street was the best cop show. Even better than Blue. I liked how Homicide was filmed entirely in the mean streets of Baltimore. I like the characters, the stories. It was real. It was gritty. It was awesome.
What about the original Law and Order? I'm not saying you're wrong, I LOVE Homicide (and any show with Munch), but Lennie Briscoe and Jack McCoy are definitely two of the greatest characters in this genre of show ever created. Just wanna know your stance on the show.
@EnviousWorm Briscoe I'll give you Jack McCoy. I can't think of any other DA that is more famous or more loved, but Andre Braugher's Frank Pembleton and Kyle Secor's Tim Bayliss are by far the very best police characters ever depicted on TV. There's a reason why TV Guide and critics across the board were asking the Emmy's why they haven't awarded Braugher best actor yet. He finally got it in 1998.
@spirittammyk I think that the best detective on TV was Robert Goren. He had the interrogation techniques as Pembleton with a psychological twist and as once Eames had said "is a required taste." DOnt get me wrong, Andre Braugher is a terrific actor and most deserving of his reward. he was very good on last weeks SVU. As for McCoy, it was great that he was part of a show that didn't make a prosecuter a cinical character. Just a person picking up where the cops left off.
@codename617 Never heard of him. I'm just biased on Homicide and Law&Order because, while most 13 year old girls were watching Beverly Hills 90210, Homicide and L&O were MY shows! And I loved it that I was the only one among my peers at the time that knew it existed. Stupid kids, didn't know what they were missing.
@spirittammyk Really? Check him out soemtimes. Look up Best Moments of Law & Order Criminal Intent season 1 to get an idea of his tecniques and characteristics. How old are you now? I myself am 22 and i got into Law & Order in high school and i saw SVU and eventually Criminal Intent. But when i saw the Wire i saw what any TV should be like. On HBO. I know how you feel. I hate going to facebook and reading about how the stupid fans "want eliot back." I mean, i dont wanna see that kind of drama.
@codename617 I'm 33 now. I wasn't into Homicide right from the start. It was when the Sniper episode was being advertised, my mom wanted to check it out, and I stayed up to watch it with her. It was also, during the Homicide/L&O Crossover I became a fan of that show (Jack McCoy in particular.) When Homicide was off the air, I followed Munch onto L&O SVU, and the rest is history!
@spirittammyk Wow. BUt that's the cool thing about it you know? COnnecting the shows. Munch used to be on Homicide, Logan who was in L&O:CI for three seasons was in L&O, Cragen was in L&O, Jerry Orbach, Jesse L Martin, Fred THompson, Carolynn McCormick and Leslie Hendrix were the only ones to be in all four L&Os. Not counting LA. I haven;t seen many Homicide eps, but the few i've seen and the clips i've seen look awesome. I have the book i still haven;t read it yet.
@codename617 Did you ever see The X-Files episode where John Munch was on that? And, if you were to watch the Homicide episode "A Doll's Eyes", there is a cameo of Mandy Patinken and Chicago Hope. Homicide is one of the rare shows that has crossed to other network shows. Special indeed!

How old is this show? They use video clipping techniques like they were using a hand-held camera. You can't tell me that's amazing acting either... No wonder I've never heard of this show.
You don't need to convince me it's a great show. It was one of my all time favorite shows ever. I have seasons 1 thru 5 and will get the rest of them soon.
A little trivia regarding HLOTS: A real criminal, on the run from the real Baltimore PD, once ran into some of the "Homicide" cast and crew filming a scene. Thinking he'd been cornered by real cops, he surrendered immediately.
I read it in the book "Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets" - the book upon which the movie was based - and it wasn't very clear on the details. However, here, you see that the detective are using the technique simply to get information - the Detroit detectives, however, used them to get confessions.
Taking into account the era, the channel and the extent they could deal with adult issues, it's without doubt the biggest leap forward in cop shows. Feels really frustrating with people I know asking 'have you seen The Wire yet?'. Have I seen The Wire.....if you are a Homicide nut, you know what I mean...
Cheers, and long live Munch, Pembleton, Bayliss, Crosetti, Lewis, Gee, Howard and Bolander.
if you like homicide, watch the wire on hbo january 6th 2008, it has munch and clark johnson from this show. it is a very good show. it's even better than homicide!!!
I dissagree. I would say that Homocide and OZ in their prime were every bit as brilliant as The Wire. Of the 3 OZ is my favourite followed by Homocide and then The Wire, which lacks the charisma of the other 2. All 3 are awsome though.
Yes I am very serious, Oz IMO is the greatest show ever, It was the equal to The Wire in terms of acting, writting & direction but unlike The Wire it never forgot to be entertaining. As brilliant as it is at times when I am watching the The Wire I get bored, that as far as I am concerned is a fault on its part. It dosent take as many risks as Oz did either it is to hung up on being authentic& cool, take the risks somtimes they will work somtimes fail but at least like Oz have the balls to try.
the wire took so many fuckin risks! first the storyline switched from the great drug storyline all the way to the docks, then d' angelo was killed in the 6th episode of a 12 episode second season! the third season saw not only the end of stringer bell and avon barksdale(two of the biggest characters on the show) but made mcnulty become sober at the end of the season, in the fourth season they got rid of bodie. i'm sorry but the wire takes many risks too.
IMO Oz also has better charachters Adebisis, O'Reily, Keller, Shilinger, Alvarez, Said, Poet, Beecher, Cain, Ortaloni... I could sit here all day and list them.
All 3 shows are incredible. But have to agree with you on The Sopranos I have never liked it. dosent come close to The Wire, Oz or Homocide.
In your opinion, someone has seen all 3 shows and dissagrees with you, deal with it;-) Those werent the kind of risks I was talking about. Basing a show in a high security prison were most of the main charchters were amongst other things ruthless cold blooded murderers, nazis, paedophiles, rapist and canabils, now that is what I call taking a risk. I only find a handful of The Wire charchters facinating, which is admitadley above average, whilst on Oz the ones I named were just the begining.
This is the greatest TV series- I lived in Baltimore, and watching every episode makes brings back such nostalgia. Truly a work of art. Unfortunately, the gritty side of the show is all too real. Baltimore does have a serious narcotics and homicide epidemic. Almost 300 murders every year....
Not Chicago -- Baltimore. The show is set in Baltimore and was filmed in Baltimore, and was based on David Simon's book, "Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets."
The show was set in Baltimore and the book was about the Homicide cops in Baltimore but I think that in the book Simon mentions that cops in Chicago used this technique.

theprofessor172 3 years ago
Indicted? "allegedly"? What was the charge? How was the case resolved?
kolst8406 3 years ago
I read it in the book "Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets" - the book upon which the movie was based - and it wasn't very clear on the details. However, here, you see that the detective are using the technique simply to get information - the Detroit detectives, however, used them to get confessions.

Yep.

Isn't this based on something two cops did to a suspect?

I love this show. The original cast was the best. never should have gottein rid of Det crasetti. the best Italian cop in the show.

The wire did the same scene but they played it a bit different. Believe it or not, some criminals ARE that stupid.

I believe it. >_>V

wire and homicide was created by the same writer with most of the staff writing for it. the wire is homicide uncensored.

i heard they are redoing this scene in the opening scene of the first episode of the fifth season on january 6th.
aznativethug 4 years ago 5
if you like homicide, watch the wire on hbo january 6th 2008, it has munch and clark johnson from this show. it is a very good show. it's even better than homicide!!!
aznativethug 4 years ago 3
I dissagree. I would say that Homocide and OZ in their prime were every bit as brilliant as The Wire. Of the 3 OZ is my favourite followed by Homocide and then The Wire, which lacks the charisma of the other 2. All 3 are awsome though.
senga1886 3 years ago
are you serious? the wire is the best show ever! homicide comes second and oz comes third. p.s. the sopranos sucks balls!

It dosent take as many risks as Oz did either it is to hung up on being authentic& cool, take the risks somtimes they will work somtimes fail but at least like Oz have the balls to try.
senga1886 3 years ago
the wire took so many fuckin risks! first the storyline switched from the great drug storyline all the way to the docks, then d' angelo was killed in the 6th episode of a 12 episode second season! the third season saw not only the end of stringer bell and avon barksdale(two of the biggest characters on the show) but made mcnulty become sober at the end of the season, in the fourth season they got rid of bodie. i'm sorry but the wire takes many risks too.
aznativethug 3 years ago
IMO Oz also has better charachters Adebisis, O'Reily, Keller, Shilinger, Alvarez, Said, Poet, Beecher, Cain, Ortaloni... I could sit here all day and list them.
All 3 shows are incredible. But have to agree with you on The Sopranos I have never liked it. dosent come close to The Wire, Oz or Homocide.
senga1886 3 years ago
the wire has better characters! omar, snoop, chris, marlo, michael, dukie, randy, namond, cutty, mcnult, prop joe, stringer, wee-bay, cheese, d'angelo, bubbles, bunk, wallace, avon, carver and many others!
aznativethug 3 years ago
In your opinion, someone has seen all 3 shows and dissagrees with you, deal with it;-) Those werent the kind of risks I was talking about. Basing a show in a high security prison were most of the main charchters were amongst other things ruthless cold blooded murderers, nazis, paedophiles, rapist and canabils, now that is what I call taking a risk. I only find a handful of The Wire charchters facinating, which is admitadley above average, whilst on Oz the ones I named were just the begining.
senga1886 3 years ago
you put up a good argument but the point is that all three shows are amazing but the wire is just a better show. thats all i'm saying.
aznativethug 3 years ago
And all I am saying that all 3 shows are amzing but for mr Oz is the better show. I think we will have to agree to disagree.

I really like this show, too. My favorite scene is one in which Frank muses about the power of coffee. Any have that clip to upload?

This is the greatest TV series- I lived in Baltimore, and watching every episode makes brings back such nostalgia. Truly a work of art. Unfortunately, the gritty side of the show is all too real. Baltimore does have a serious narcotics and homicide epidemic. Almost 300 murders every year....

I love it! The two will do whatever it takes to close the case :)

Best. Show. Ever.

Not Chicago -- Baltimore. The show is set in Baltimore and was filmed in Baltimore, and was based on David Simon's book, "Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets."
Littlefinger 4 years ago
The show was set in Baltimore and the book was about the Homicide cops in Baltimore but I think that in the book Simon mentions that cops in Chicago used this technique.

Based on something that REALLY happened. In Chicago I think. Most of the stuff on Homicide was based on real life stuff, crazy as it was.
