I was on a A4e program 3 months later and i was kicked out for apparently refusing to due what i was told all they told me to do was check websites for work and that's what i did i must have made them look bad because i was there 3 months and they didnt like that.

At present I am on a work programme, it's a complete waste of tax payers money, There no more than paper shufflers, There doing what originally the Jobcentre did, NEXT TO NOTHING. All they want to know is what you have done off your own back to find work. Assistance is in the form of help with CV's and numeracy and literacy. I appreciate that there is a large proportion of people that need this help, EXPECT MORE RIOTS THIS SUMMER....AND THE JOB CENTRES ARE DOING NOTHING TO PREVENT IT

My local A4e office (Keighley, West Yorks) is now banning its own trainees from entering if they are late for a session!!! - Last week I was sent down by jobcentre for what i thought was a 30 min CV evaluation - but because I was ten minutes late the trainer wouldn't let me into the building! - Anybody else had an experience like this? I've put in complaint of course - if Emma Harrison is reading this, get your legal team ready...
Back at Ingues for 2 years on the new programme, it didn't work on the new deal but anyway back again. The usual rubbish ex double glazing sales people who are employed by Ingues trying to flogg 20 unrealistic unsuitable jobs at you as they need a sales pitch as that is all you are to them now. Its not just Ingues I found out someone is back at A4E for 2 years, that will be hell.

The government is designed to waste money thats what it does, thats why it costs 400 to change a lightbulb in the HoP. They give cushy contracts to their friends. Everything is this way for a reason thats why nothing ever gets any better.

In addition to this, last year she and her husband received an another £462,000 from A4e for the company's use of her home for conferences and administrative work! Her husband received an additional £626,856 for the lease of another property to A4e.

i did a similar scheme with Reed in partnership. it was so depressing and i lost all my convfidence from them. so many of the people there didn't want to be there and many of them felt hopeles
I got a sanction because I couldn't stomach these terrible bastards. after 2 weeks of staring at a wall, I'd had enough, my benefits were stopped for a month, I ate alot of noodle in that miserable 4 weeks.

THis falls under the category of you could'nt make it up! Amongst other things, I do voluntary work, here in Leeds. At the organisation I volunteer for, a chap who started around 9 months ago doing graphic and web design has recently been sent to BEST (A4E lite).
Facing the prospect of 13 weeks doing sod all, he told them he wanted to continue his voluntary work. BEST agreed. BEST is now claiming credit for something he was doing in the first place AND getting paid for it!

people they are dealing with.Although they do treat you like a human being which is more than the staff at A4E do.I think the new government are going to abolish the New deal scheme and replace with a scheme similar to workfare in the U.S.A

A4e is bad but in York the rival to this company set up called Working Links is no better, they just don't seem that interested in helping you find a job. I phone them and they never get back to me, yet they boast that they are better than A4e.

Whats weird is Working links has recently been set up here in York yet some of the staff are the ones who worked at A4e, they keep saying it is better and that they don't treat you like a number, yet they do!

For example I initially contacted the Donal McIntyre Radio 5 live prog about A4e and was on a R5L show where I was told a pack of lies by Tony McNulty. Thanks Harry, I always wanted to know if the same thing that happens in the UK was happening overseas. I know in Australia a lot of not-for-profit orgnisations lost out when the Australian government awarded the contracts to private overseas companies like A4e. It's outrageous
Yes, many high performing local non-profit organisations were replaced by multi-national corporations earlier in 2009. Previous performance was NOT a consideration in the new arrangements - being a large company was the only requirement. This simplified the government's role in liaison, but did nothing to assist the unemployed. It is already proving to be a significantly less helpful to the unemployed in Australia, not to mention VERY expensive for us poor taxpayers.

More to the point, perhaps you were one of the better A4e staff members. There were a couple at the branch I attended. However, the biggest problem with A4e is not so much individual staff members, but the whole structure of the company. It is patently corrupt!

Some angry peeps out there - A4E's job is thankless but DOES GET RESULTS.. I know I worked in Leeds for A4E I still av thank you letters from clients who had never worked, I got them jobs, often busting my b*lls often to be let down by them, but not all clients were benefit cheats, druggies and winjers, some used A4E as platform and have gone on to rewarding careers, help they needed - I'd bin benefits as it fosters a different form of addiction and replace it with work based benefits/training

If this sort of thing happened 20 years ago under the conservative government the Labour party would have kicked up a big stink about it & there would have been riots. 2 recruiters at A4e falsified the signatures on forms meant for employers who agreed to take on workers. On recruiter entered into a fraudulant deal with a local temp agency. In Jan, the recruiter was fired and the other resigned. Someone close to A4e said it had the "smell of conspiracy". A4e cliamed that there had only been 20 claims of fraud. It's unclear why DWP investigations lasted 13months when A4e was STILL bidding for contracts.

Many traditional Labour party members, sickened by the way Blair and Brown have moved the party to the right, and the increasing privataisation of the public sector have been leaving the party in droves in recent years. Chiggy, everything you have said I know already. I have worked along side A4e and have friends who work for A4e. Everything you have posted maybe true, but to say I know nothing about it is a pile of shit. What I am standing up for are the things that I have seen, been apart of, like having A4e provide and pay for training to members of my staff, seeing clients get into work and gain qualifications. You cant change this. Maybe this didn't happen where you worked? maybe you sucked at your job?
What annoys me the most is colleges are downsizing e.g the number of courses they provide, at a time when they should have even more students. They have the facility to provide real training which is valuable at work. A4e on the other hand is expanding yet the training it provides is total tosh! A4e is expanding on Government money that should be with the colleges. Politicians dont know or dont care whats going on, its time to end the stupidity of New Deal.
There are some very good training providers out there.....they are called local colleges. Where those on New Deal can learn valuable skills. The problem is Jobcentre Plus assumes the worst from all its clients, admittedly some are ex cons but that is no excuse. They receive a massive budget from the Government and those people with special needs should be identified and given what they need as an INDIVIDUAL to help them back into work. Herding everyone and anyone into A4e is not the answer.

I have worked for A4e which allows me to take that liberty. I followed Emma Harrisons mantra to the letter "if you dont like, it you can fook off".....so I did. Yes, the work placements do not sound ideal. I would not like to work at a charity shop. Just out of interest, what kind of work are you looking for? I know everyone on here hates me but I am always keen on giving people any help they might need (if they want it). This can be form a look at your CV, or, if you happen to live locally, (slim chance I know) I might know some companies that are currently recruiting.
What A4e should be doing is building up contacts with local businesses instead of slagging off the clients e.g. referring to them as 'lazy' on Radio 5. What employer in their right mind is going to employ a lazy person, especially if that misconception is coming from your mouth? It seams to me that YOU are the one that needs to knuckle down and do your job which you are paid to do instead of blaming clients for your piss poor 20 percent success rate as outlined in the Ofsted reports.

So whats your answer? The government have made it far too easy for people to sign on for the rest of their life. Do you really think its right that people are better off for being unemployed? Some people go through life without ever working as they get so many benefits, free houses, child support etc. Maybe these are the smartest people, but I am still a firm believer that you should work for your money instead of sponging off others. Why am I worse off for having a job?
If you think it is so easy to to sign on you should take a look at the 30 page form to claim JSA. No, people shouldn't be better off unemployed than working, equally wages shouldn't be so low either. Poverty pay is the biggest barrier to employment. I never said you were worse off working. I said that there aren't many full-time jobs in some parts of the UK , and many of those are low paid and only suitable for people living at home..
I've only attended A4e, so I don't know anything about Working Links or any others. Perhaps you could enlighten us as to whether any of the others have a good reputation?

I have Attended Latitude and City Centre Training before i went to A4e and found that they helped me specially Latitude with the (ECDL) and City Centre Training with the Engineering & Coach Building skills i gained, i have no Problems with A4e, just the work Placements as they ask you were you would like to be placed and you tell them and end up @ some charity shop, i do want a job just there ain't many full time employment jobs and then going through the daft group interviews.

Someone mentioned giving incentives to motivate clients. Is a job not a big enough incentive for anyone? When I visited the Reading office clients were given incentives/bribes, whatever, for job outcomes. No I cannot say that this is the same in all offices as I have not visited all of them, although if its ok in one office then it should be ok in another, correct?
A job itself may not be a big enough incentive if the client will be worse off working than on benefits. And in places like Hull, Leeds and Glasgow there aren't many full-time jobs and what is available is so low paid it is only suitable for someone living at home with their parents.
I agree incentives and bribes are not a good idea which is why A4e should not get a bounty for finding people agency work. Why should you be rewarded for finding them a job that will probably see them back on the dole a fortnight later? That makes no sense to me.

I have also witnessed an unbelievable amount of lazy clients at A4e. Tell me, what would you do to motivate someone who doesn't want to be their in the first place? How would you deal with a 62 year old man being on the course? How would you motivate him?
You motivate him using the skills and knowledge gained from the study of C&G 7303 Preparing To Teach In The Lifelong Learning Sector. Oh I forgot.....many A4e Trainers are only working towards a teaching qualification....which by the way makes it ILLEGAL for them to even be taking classes. Very few even have a teaching qualification at all so no wonder your finding it difficult to motivate clients.

Why would I say I work for a company I dont work for? Theres no point. Your the one that created the video which means your the one that said that guy is unemployed, not me! And be realistic, you wouldn't give that guy an interview.

The guy WAS unemployed at the time, but not now. And being at A4e didn't help at all.
I'd motivate clients by giving them an incentive. Not easy especially if the client also has financial and other problems. As I said I would give the guy an interview, everyone deserves a chance.

In the video you created, at 1.17 (the picture of a man sticking his fingers up and drinking alcohol) Now he is obviously not a real A4e client but I see why you have used his picture. You are right in the fact that he does represent a typical A4e client. Why hasnt he got a job? ...look at the state of him! Would you employ him? Hardly the fault of A4e when there are clients like that. I admit there are some exceptions, like the ones I employed. I understand why advisers abuse them, I would.
It is the fault of A4e if they can't cope with a few difficult clients they shouldn't have bid for the contract in the first place. How do you know he hasn't got a job? You don't even know anything about him but based on his appearance you make a lot of negative assumptions. I would certainly give him an interview for a job. If I had to choose between your attitude and his appearance - he'd get the job!

No I dont work for A4e, I work in recruitment and have worked along side A4e. On occasions they have been very helpful. Some of the clients I have recruited from them have been a complete let down.

I am not trying to defend A4e nationally, I am giving an example how not all A4e's are a complete waste of time like everyone keeps claiming. I expect they have got other outcomes but to be honest, I am only commenting on what I have seen. The clients in the basic skills programme are unemployable, no wonder they are only getting satisfactory. results when they have clients who dont even have a full set of teeth.

I was on a A4e program 3 months later and i was kicked out for apparently refusing to due what i was told all they told me to do was check websites for work and that's what i did i must have made them look bad because i was there 3 months and they didnt like that.

At present I am on a work programme, it's a complete waste of tax payers money, There no more than paper shufflers, There doing what originally the Jobcentre did, NEXT TO NOTHING. All they want to know is what you have done off your own back to find work. Assistance is in the form of help with CV's and numeracy and literacy. Very interesting stuff..but I think maybe I can go one better. My local A4e office (Keighley, West Yorks) is now banning its own trainees from entering if they are late for a session!!! - Last week I was sent down by jobcentre for what i thought was a 30 min CV evaluation - but because I was ten minutes late the trainer wouldn't let me into the building! - Anybody else had an experience like this? I've put in complaint of course - if Emma Harrison is reading this, get your legal team ready...

Back at Ingues for 2 years on the new programme, it didn't work on the new deal but anyway back again. The usual rubbish ex double glazing sales people who are employed by Ingues trying to flogg 20 unrealistic unsuitable jobs at you as they need a sales pitch as that is all you are to them now. Its not just Ingues I found out someone is back at A4E for 2 years, that will be hell.

Emma Harrison pays herself a salary of £365,000 a year! In addition to this, last year she and her husband received an another £462,000 from A4e for the company's use of her home for conferences and administrative work! Her husband received an additional £626,856 for the lease of another property to A4e.
Now I'd have little problem with this myself. Except that A4e gets the bulk of its earnings from the taxpayer! High time the govt forced such companies to be more open about how they operate!

THis falls under the category of you could'nt make it up! Amongst other things, I do voluntary work, here in Leeds. At the organisation I volunteer for, a chap who started around 9 months ago doing graphic and web design has recently been sent to BEST (A4E lite).
Facing the prospect of 13 weeks doing sod all, he told them he wanted to continue his voluntary work. BEST agreed. BEST is now claiming credit for something he was doing in the first place AND getting paid for it!

are no better than the staff at A4E.A lot of them seem to be dis-interested in the
people they are dealing with.Although they do treat you like a human being which is more than the staff at A4E do.I think the new government are going to abolish the New deal scheme and replace with a scheme similar to workfare in the U.S.A

Whats weird is Working links has recently been set up here in York yet some of the staff are the ones who worked at A4e, they keep saying it is better and that they don't treat you like a number, yet they do!

Also, get in touch with the media. Try to get onto local and nat radio whenever there are phone ins regarding training, unemployment and so on. For example I initially contacted the Donal McIntyre Radio 5 live prog about A4e and was on a R5L show where I was told a pack of lies by Tony McNulty. Other blogs and sites other than YT are good too. Watching A4e is a great site to start with. good luck!

Yes, many high performing local non-profit organisations were replaced by multi-national corporations earlier in 2009. Previous performance was NOT a consideration in the new arrangements - being a large company was the only requirement. This simplified the government's role in liaison, but did nothing to assist the unemployed. It is already proving to be a significantly less helpful to the unemployed in Australia, not to mention VERY expensive for us poor taxpayers.

There always has to be someone in the spot light for people to have a moan at, what exactly are the other 100 odd Provider's across the country doing to help the situation of unemployment?Because from my point of view many of them are in the same boat due to the current climate/funding lack of jobs, lack of job placements

But I think the government should give the money to colleges to run bona fide training courses which offer recognized qualifications instead of giving it to private companies like A4e. More to the point, perhaps you were one of the better A4e staff members. There were a couple at the branch I attended. However, the biggest problem with A4e is not so much individual staff members, but the whole structure of the company. It is patently corrupt!

Some angry peeps out there - A4E's job is thankless but DOES GET RESULTS.. I know I worked in Leeds for A4E I still av thank you letters from clients who had never worked, I got them jobs, often busting my b*lls often to be let down by them, but not all clients were benefit cheats, druggies and winjers, some used A4E as platform and have gone on to rewarding careers, help they needed - I'd bin benefits as it fosters a different form of addiction and replace it with work based benefits/training

Well, the basics of what happened at Hull:
2 recruiters at A4e falsified the signatures on forms meant for employers who agreed to take on workers. On recruiter entered into a fraudulant deal with a local temp agency. In Jan, the recruiter was fired and the other resigned. Someone close to A4e said it had the "smell of conspiracy". A4e cliamed that there had only been 20 claims of fraud. It's unclear why DWP investigations lasted 13months when A4e was STILL bidding for contracts.

Check out 'Common Purpose' they too have taxpayers money given to them through the backdoor. Labour must have a policy of giving independent companies taxpayers money to indoctrinate the general public. I haven't been on A4e yet but I have to start New Deal soon so hopefully they'll send me there to investigate them for myself

Jimladx23: You might be interested to know that A4e was the subject of a recent Radio 5 Donal McIntyre Investigates programme.
Many traditional Labour party members, sickened by the way Blair and Brown have moved the party to the right, and the increasing privataisation of the public sector have been leaving the party in droves in recent years. The New Labour experiment is finished as I'm sure they will find out when they kicked out at the next general election

sorry am now in trainspotter mode!!!!!!!!!!!!!.an a4 was in edinborough at the weekend and came down here to york on tuesday.the guy who owns it is a scottish sheep farmer.he got off the train and was black bright.he then went into the toilets,got changed and cleaned off and then got an express train back to scotland.that is some toy to own for one man

Chiggy, everything you have said I know already. I have worked along side A4e and have friends who work for A4e. Everything you have posted maybe true, but to say I know nothing about it is a pile of shit. What I am standing up for are the things that I have seen, been apart of, like having A4e provide and pay for training to members of my staff, seeing clients get into work and gain qualifications. You cant change this. Maybe this didn't happen where you worked? maybe you sucked at your job?

What annoys me the most is colleges are downsizing e.g the number of courses they provide, at a time when they should have even more students. They have the facility to provide real training which is valuable at work. A4e on the other hand is expanding yet the training it provides is total tosh! A4e is expanding on Government money that should be with the colleges. Politicians dont know or dont care whats going on, its time to end the stupidity of New Deal.

There are some very good training providers out there.....they are called local colleges. Where those on New Deal can learn valuable skills. The problem is Jobcentre Plus assumes the worst from all its clients, admittedly some are ex cons but that is no excuse. They receive a massive budget from the Government and those people with special needs should be identified and given what they need as an INDIVIDUAL to help them back into work. Herding everyone and anyone into A4e is not the answer.

I have worked for A4e which allows me to take that liberty. I followed Emma Harrisons mantra to the letter "if you dont like, it you can fook off".....so I did. On the most part the majority of A4e staff are pissed off with the managers, crap wages and lack of resources which is why they move to other training providers.

Yes, the work placements do not sound ideal. I would not like to work at a charity shop. Just out of interest, what kind of work are you looking for? I know everyone on here hates me but I am always keen on giving people any help they might need (if they want it). This can be form a look at your CV, or, if you happen to live locally, (slim chance I know) I might know some companies that are currently recruiting.

What A4e should be doing is building up contacts with local businesses instead of slagging off the clients e.g. referring to them as 'lazy' on Radio 5. What employer in their right mind is going to employ a lazy person, especially if that misconception is coming from your mouth? It seams to me that YOU are the one that needs to knuckle down and do your job which you are paid to do instead of blaming clients for your piss poor 20 percent success rate as outlined in the Ofsted reports.

So whats your answer? The government have made it far too easy for people to sign on for the rest of their life. Do you really think its right that people are better off for being unemployed? Some people go through life without ever working as they get so many benefits, free houses, child support etc. Maybe these are the smartest people, but I am still a firm believer that you should work for your money instead of sponging off others. Why am I worse off for having a job?

If you think it is so easy to to sign on you should take a look at the 30 page form to claim JSA. No, people shouldn't be better off unemployed than working, equally wages shouldn't be so low either. Poverty pay is the biggest barrier to employment. I never said you were worse off working. I said that there aren't many full-time jobs in some parts of the UK , and many of those are low paid and only suitable for people living at home..

I have Attended Latitude and City Centre Training before i went to A4e and found that they helped me specially Latitude with the (ECDL) and City Centre Training with the Engineering & Coach Building skills i gained, i have no Problems with A4e, just the work Placements as they ask you were you would like to be placed and you tell them and end up @ some charity shop, i do want a job just there ain't many full time employment jobs and then going through the daft group interviews.

Someone mentioned giving incentives to motivate clients. Is a job not a big enough incentive for anyone? When I visited the Reading office clients were given incentives/bribes, whatever, for job outcomes. No I cannot say that this is the same in all offices as I have not visited all of them, although if its ok in one office then it should be ok in another, correct?

A job itself may not be a big enough incentive if the client will be worse off working than on benefits. And in places like Hull, Leeds and Glasgow there aren't many full-time jobs and what is available is so low paid it is only suitable for someone living at home with their parents.

I agree incentives and bribes are not a good idea which is why A4e should not get a bounty for finding people agency work. Why should you be rewarded for finding them a job that will probably see them back on the dole a fortnight later? That makes no sense to me.

I am telling you that your basic arguiment, what ever it is apart from knocking easy targets, is based on being an A4e apologist, plain and simple.
You said earlier that you'd prefer A4e to get taxpayers cash rather than their clients. As A4e commit fraud on a nationwide scale, your're condoning fraud.
And if A4e do such great work, why do you claim dislike the company? Yours is a nonsensical argument as it it full of holes and inconsistencies. Even you should be able to see this.

I have also witnessed an unbelievable amount of lazy clients at A4e. Tell me, what would you do to motivate someone who doesn't want to be their in the first place? How would you deal with a 62 year old man being on the course? How would you motivate him?

You motivate him using the skills and knowledge gained from the study of C&G 7303 Preparing To Teach In The Lifelong Learning Sector. Oh I forgot.....many A4e Trainers are only working towards a teaching qualification....which by the way makes it ILLEGAL for them to even be taking classes. Very few even have a teaching qualification at all so no wonder your finding it difficult to motivate clients.

The guy WAS unemployed at the time, but not now. And being at A4e didn't help at all.
I'd motivate clients by giving them an incentive. Not easy especially if the client also has financial and other problems. As I said I would give the guy an interview, everyone deserves a chance.

In the video you created, at 1.17 (the picture of a man sticking his fingers up and drinking alcohol) Now he is obviously not a real A4e client but I see why you have used his picture. You are right in the fact that he does represent a typical A4e client. Why hasnt he got a job? ...look at the state of him! Would you employ him? Hardly the fault of A4e when there are clients like that. I admit there are some exceptions, like the ones I employed. I understand why advisers abuse them, I would.

It is the fault of A4e if they can't cope with a few difficult clients they shouldn't have bid for the contract in the first place. How do you know he hasn't got a job? You don't even know anything about him but based on his appearance you make a lot of negative assumptions. I would certainly give him an interview for a job. If I had to choose between your attitude and his appearance - he'd get the job!

No I dont work for A4e, I work in recruitment and have worked along side A4e. On occasions they have been very helpful. Some of the clients I have recruited from them have been a complete let down.

I am not trying to defend A4e nationally, I am giving an example how not all A4e's are a complete waste of time like everyone keeps claiming. I expect they have got other outcomes but to be honest, I am only commenting on what I have seen. The clients in the basic skills programme are unemployable, no wonder they are only getting satisfactory. results when they have clients who dont even have a full set of teeth.
