Sure the Beatles covered some Chuck Berry and other black artists, but they did so with the utmost respect and it was a necessary tactic to draw attention to themselves in the era of the early 60's. To hate one generation of musicians for building on what the last has done is a bit extreme. It's like being angry at the person who designed the Sistine Chapel because he didn't build the first house.

I love Berry's voice but Lennon is good too. I wouldn't say there's a better version, Chucks is laid back and the Beatles version is more jumpy like a lot of their earlier stuff.
