  • circa 1947...

  • Roy Browns version is WAY better

  • Where did rock and roll really start, everyone says elvis, but as ive learned, whatever you think is the first, has been done long long before.

  • @Ruutu321 But who can deliver it.... HMMM....

  • @Ruutu321 "Where did rock and roll really start" Basically at a Wild Bill Moore session ten days before this one. (If the listed recording dates are right.) Hits Wynonie and Bill had in '48 and similar '48 stuff like Singer's "Corn Bread" and McNeely's "Man Eater" created the '49 fad for "rockers." Almost nobody was using backbeat through most of the tune before '47, and the few who were (L. Hampton, Buddy Johnson, Milt Buckner) didn't release records then with lyrics about rocking.

  • this is my great grandfathers music :)

  • Crowd pleaser in my day,This is what music is all about.

  • This is the birth of R&B

  • This is better than most, if not all, of the mass produced, vocal tuned music of the 21st century. Give me the old time rock and roll over any stupid Bieber or Gomez.

  • This is the first rock 'n roll song ever, but not the last by any means. I just ordered this for my daughter at a record store. The Word will be passed on to the next generation! Say Amen!

  • I got to say this outclasses Roy Brown's version as far as I'm concerned nothing against Roy but this swings!!!!!!!!!!! Oh yeah Elvis' version was great too!!!!11

  • Can't keep no butts in no seats with music like this... This is the real deal! Just fantastic!!

  • UN MONSTRUO!!!!!

  • @annon003 lol and it's just as crazy

  • Sorry for my stupid English.

  • @Luu96s , your English is just fine. We understand everything you're talking about.

  • That song is originally from Roy brown, who origined it in the year 1947, and it's an blues song. A lot of rhythm and blues composers edited it, The first version in Rock & Roll of this song is from Wynonie Harris, then appeared The Bealtes, Elvis Presley, and other rock & roll groups, singing the same song =) Good Luck from Argentina.

  • Now I actually like music from every decade from 1940 - 2010 !! ! ! ! !

  • @Cactaceae33 check out the 30s and 20s...the farther back u go the more hardcore it gets.

  • @hep2jive yes of course, tin pan alley makes death metal look like baby lullabies

  • Yes. Cannot think of earlier rock and roll.

  • Is this the original? See, people didn't listen to this stuff back then too much, and look what we all missed! I wasn't born yet, but I just enjoy this stuff so much.

  • isso nao é rock and roll

  • mas isso ai nao é rock and roll nao, o rock verdadeiro só veio depois.

  • I love that sound of the ridecymbal! keep on rocking!

  • @Greenbaron1918 I wish today's blues drummers had a clue about this persistent swing effect. Between that and the piano comping you have the essence of jump blues.

  • Is this the first rock 'n roll song ever? Does anyone know of anything earlier? This song is cool, it really rocks.

  • With this one of the top hits (maybe the #1 song) of 1948, it's amazing how long the myth that Rock n' Roll was born circa 1955 persisted.

  • The first rock and roll song ever. Fun to listen to as well. Despite what some say, rock and roll was born in the late 40s (and some elements of it can be seen in the mid 40s). Glad to see the myth of perfectly formed rock and roll coming out of nowhere in 1955 has bit the dust.

  • The foundation of rock !!! To night she will know i'am a mighty man.

  • Damn....this is music friends!

  • Yes, the birth of Rock 'n" Roll, long before Presley, Lil Richard, and Bill Haley! It'll take Johnny Otis to set the record straight. These were the day of the old 45's!

  • backbeat

  • @bubnjarovski - yes, it's one of the first song which have swing pulse and strong backbeat on drums

    absolutelly brilliant

  • THE BIRTH OF ROCK AND ROLL

  • @POPACHELLI Gotta love that backbeat! That was one of the biggest factors that made rock and roll what it was.
