@TheiShockwaves i wrote loads of stuff down, linked quetion 6 to... Big Brother, jamie Oliver and Louise Redknap's Size 0 campaign. And some others which i dont actually remmeber now xD haha i enjoyed the exam.
I love this song, they should have used the Billy Joel original, I hate cover versions. Did you spot the politically correct bit in the commercial? :-)
Why does have the world have to psycho analyse everything these days? It's depressing! The song says what all men know we can't live with them but we cannot live without them. It's a love song for goodness sake now get over it and go and mow the grass or something....strewth!!!!
Fyfe Dangerfield shouldn't have touched this song. He doesn't add anything to the original and he sings it like he doesn't understand what he is singing. As for the 'new market' argument: People that don't want to see (or listen to music) beyond their own noses, don't deserve to know the songs outside of the mainstream. Let oldies be oldies, let musicians flaunt with their own plumes.
Singers today are so lazy. If Fyfe Dangerfield had written and sung this song I would have total respect for him. All he has done is something a million other people on the planet can do, he copied a classic song from the 70s or 80s. Listen to the original version of this classic song sang by Billy Joel in 1977. Billy Joels version is far superior then Fyfe's COPY.
Yet another well-manufactured ad that attempts to subvert the general populous into spending 80% of their hard-earned income at Lewis's on stuff they will never actually need.
Yes she's obviously middle class ! She grows up, goes to school ! Wait for the shocking part ! "she gets married" has a family (not in the wrong order I assure you) retires, for the people that are unsure of retirement, its some you do after you have worked all your life. Come on people it's an advert, and if it doesn't make you shop at john lewis, just enjoy the song! As the avert puts into perspective life is to short
@giddeo too far lol. your making a big deal because there's a white woman in an advert? i think the fact that your complaining is slightly more racist than not using someone of another ethnicity. and what working class person would shop in john lewis :L it's as dear as fuck lol. so yea, i can't see your problem
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Blehhhh!!!! This is the smuggest thing I've seen in my life. What the hell is wrong with you people? Crying over this? It's bloody awful. It's not even original. UP did the same thing, but tastefully. I'm boycotting John Lewis! Smugfaces.
the fat evil bitch just looks like her mother, and it turns out she even had sex with her brother,so you spend all your days doing drugs and heavy drinking ..cos when you get home you know she will just kick your head in..and you wonder how long you will get for her murder....she,s always a woman to me la laa la la laa.......
The lyrics describe a cold loveless bitch, whose happy moments in life can be distilled into 90 seconds. The real life message of John Lewis, is hate her, but don't divorce her. You'll have to buy seperate sofas, water jugs, kitchen sets, for two seperate homes. And that means your going to have to economise and buy your goods from Argos or some other shit place for Proles. The quality of John Lewis is all that holds the fragile marriage together in the modern era. IN UNITY WE BUY QUALITY.
Nicely shot video but totally inappropriate use of this beautiful song and lyric. Billy Joel wrote this song after the break up of his first marriage as a damning indictment of her duplicity. In fact Billy Joel now refuses to perform this song. People oftem claim to love this song without realising what it is saying, I think John Lewis fall in to this category. Billy Joel told USA Today in JUne 2008 "To me it's a very simple understandable lyric, 'She may be that to you, but she's this to me"
they should of made it a bit more realistic, i.e sniffing solvents, failing exams, a few months on the dole, getting a crap job in the office, both the man and women cheating on each other, bringing up a couple of spoilt moaning kids, then getting mugged as they walk through the park
This is a rip-off of a television ad created for FastWeb (Italian internet provider) made in the 90's- It's the exact same but goes through a mans life and uses a GreenDay song- COPYCATS!
She has a job, she is "nobody's fool" and can "wound with her eyes". Really, the ad doesn't make any sort of anti-feminist statement. Just because she gets married in no way implies that any man has control over her or her actions. Besides, look how happy she is!
@Techgril thats true, some men control the women when married some women control the men! and some couples still lead separate lives but are happily married, everyones different its as long as your happy that counts.
@Techgril SO agreed. Anyone who says women who choose- CHOOSE- to get married and raise children are anti feminist are being anti femninist themselves, it's just another way to limit women.
joel wrote it for his then wife, who cleared up all his finaces and stuff after he'd been having trouble. people called her a ruthless business woman. because of the fact she seemed as tough as nails, many people called her unfemine, but to billy she was always a woman.
basically, he loves her despite all her exterior coldness/hardness.
its a pretty beautiful ballad when you actually listen to it properly.
@T800System mundane yes, but their model of business is very interesting.
Every sales assistant, clerk, etc. gets a share of the business so when JL does well, they do well. Have you ever noticed how friendly the assistants are? It's because they get paid more if more people return to the shop, giving it better profits. It's working too. Communism within capitalism
@AndrewerdnAndrew Actually I notice they can't be bothered to serve you at all or display even common curtsey and politeness in the branches I go to - they are 'in charge' not one can reprimand them and they are going to let you know.
Great advert, good products but soviet style consumer care.
I always buy most of my tech stuff, such as tv's from john Lewis and have used the under sale guarantee before and it works, got a £800 TV for £500 with no hassle once they checked the other sellers price was valid.
Also there warrantees are good and they even swapped my dads old 32" crt for a HD lcd panel when no other replacement was available.
@ChibiCandi I agree, anything which looks like someone is ageing quickly is very depressing! Like that guy who took a picture of himself every day for 6 years
I wonder how much the actual advert cost to make... obviously it's quoted for the campaign as being £6 mill but that's probably more for ad slots than the advert itself!...?
Its try, when you buy a john lewis product you are more or less hooked.
