This is an excellent idea. The afghans farm this stuff to survive, and their only buyers are illegal traffickers. If we got pharmaceuticals to buy from these afghan farmers, not only would it eliminate the need for them to sell to traffickers, it would end alot of trafficking in the world, and would feed these farmers better than they are getting paid by drug lords.
WOW we already went there for their oil. (number 1 money maker) Now were going in for drugs?!?! what a fuckin coincidense. Pharmacutecal companies are evil. we dont need poppy we need weed.
The marines don't seem to mind the poppies, I don't mind the poppies, the Afghan people live off poppies, heroin addicts love poppies, and those guys with sticks get steady jobs smacking poppies. Status quo looks good to me. Lets focus on shooting talibanis.
the plant is not the problem, its the way humans choose to use it.the use of opium is not all bad, its the abuse that brings problems.where does the abuse start?greedy people wanting to make money.if it can legaly be prescribed & sold,&its a natural plant, why is it illegal.even marijuana isn't legal, so it makes a lil more since why people would be against its farming(i'm not 1 of those people).but this is like rich people who only want it to benefit themselves, don't let poor people benefit!
sounds like a way for some people to do what they're already doing&make more money doing it.phamasutical companies already use opium for medication.people in pain would be seriously hurtin if not for this god given plant.i, who cares about humanity, in a compassionate way&favor natural health, say,we need to regulate opium intake in a way that provides comfort w/o such harsh come down so people who need or choose to use it, can still be productive members of society&have a future to hope for.
Karzai better not buckle under pressure. The afghan farmers don't grow poppy to fuck us over, they do it because they need food, and right now only poppy grows well.
It's not easy to grow wheat and otehr crops with no irrigation, poppy grows well with low levels of water. They would gladly growe other crops but they can't.
The US feels sorry for the poor Afghan opium farmers trying to feed their families, but if this were the same situation only with american farmers trying to do the same thing they would send your ass to prison for a very very long time.
The government makes no sense what so ever once again. Retarded morons!

this is great for afghans but not for big pharma- a flood of cheap opium on the market would cause opiate prices to plummet - they(big pharma) can produce their own opium and sell it for what ever price they want- cause they control the supply- the US drug industry will lobby heavily against this in the form of higher tariiffs on foreign opium
@mrtampenski Exactly, the CIA has been caught more than once bring drugs into the US under front companies, but the agents were all fall guys and they made it look like they were operating outside of the CIA... bullshit
The opiates are among the most vital medicines of the last 200 years or so. But I guess the poppy is a double-edged sword. It has saved numerous lives and has taken numerous lives.

oh so they want to own all those poppys for there self simply so they can make the drug money open your eyes the pharmacies are nothing but other drug dealers the money is not in the cure they just want the patinets to come back
what in the name of (choose your deity) give anybody other than the afghan government the right to say that these people can't grow poppies. Who the fuck died and made nato and america god?

It's a very good idea to buy opium to make opiate based medicine. But instead of just making morphine, one has think more economically and make diacetylmorphine (heroin) out of it, as the latter compound is about 2.5x more potent than plain morphine and therefore you'll only need roughly half of it per patient.
Speaking of "us" Americans, unfortunately it is a misconception. Like the Chinese, it is our greedy "corporation" of a government that makes the U.S. citizens look bad, we think of the Chinese as being a corrupt people, IMO- Not true, it is their government the very people who represent them that is giving them a bad name, just as ours does the same for us abroad.

How the F__K do you think they make a living!? Chemical spraying? Who do you think you are?!! Is it a wonder why there is animosity towards us Americans???

THEIRS A BETTER CHANCE OF HITLER COMING BACK TO LIFE AND TURN INTO A JEW.
no he didn't watch it, people with closed minds never see or hear anything that goes against their brainwashed mindset, they are too scared that they might learn something.
They should ReLegalize all drugs, Keeping them illegal is just making criminals and foreigners richer and more powerful. Unrefined Plant based drugs are safer than all these pharmacueticals available. The war on drugs itself seems to be addictive to the people profiting from it. It is the most unamerican thing i can think of to imagine the DEA trying to protect us from drugs. I personally dont only want legalization, hell, i think we need reparations.try lobbying for that!
the U.S. government has absolutely no right to destroy their crops it's not their fucking country pretty soon the Afgans will start leaving I.E.D.s in their fields and I'll be glad to read about it
@024reredrum I agree, and I'm American. Destroying these poor farmers poppies away is like stealing food from them, because w/out the opium they will have no way to sustain themselves economically.
@024reredrum um, ya they kinda do have a right you fucking idiot. where do you think afghan sells the drugs to? america. if you want to kill the problem, you cut off the head. i'm sure that asking afghan to get another customer won't work, so this is the alternative.
@aeropostalbaby1 your an idiot America does not rule the world, and should never have that power they already rule us enough, they might as well shove a leash up everybody's ass. Those are their crops not ours and anybody should have the right to grow a plant and do what ever they wish with it. These laws are ridiculous and uncalled for. Nobody deserves to lose their freedom over bullshit they say you can't do, many people can use things very responsibly and everyone else shouldn't be punished
Do more research than just watch a video- this isn't feasible for many reasons. Where is this market for legal opium? Other nations currently grow legal opium and it is barely profitable. What makes you think that flooding the legal market, and increasing global supply, far exceeding demand will magically disovle the illegal one, which pays farmers much more than a legal one ever could. This is another ad hoc soultion that doesn't partake in the real world doesn't understand the core of the prob
Fuck the religious nuts that force those drug polices! All they are interested in is meddling in other people's business. With all their superstitions and mysticism and voodoo politics, they will never let this take place. Making medicine out of poppies is logical, reasonable and rational, the complete opposite of religion.
Right on brother, they in government are fucking hippocrites, they store 2.3 million worth of morphine at Fort Knox so that shows how important opioids are.
indeed sir, these people that want to "legalize" it or give permits, to simply gain a profit from the farmers. as for the farmers in the midlle east... they are screwed sad to say. either the U.S or the taliban will have them by the balls. as for poppies... they are great! gotta love ebay! (here in the U.S) floural and baking purposes only right? HAHHAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!! persian whites are by far my favorite, but also the tazi's for large output.
Actually, Ebay is coming under fire for allowing vendors to sell decorative pods and what you said will not be the case very much longer.
Sadly, thegrandmoosie, it does not help at all that people like you openly advertise online the illegal use of such pods.
Keep that stuff to yourself, because the DEA has issued a warning to Ebay... they are aware and more and more people continue to talk so casually about it and give them more ammunition on the Web.
@laetrille i agree and i disagree. It would be productive to use it to create pharmicuticals, but it is not our place to tell these people what they can do with their opium. for thousands of years people have been growing opium. If the Afghan government wants to stop it then they need to do it themselves.
So the corporate drug dealers AMA. Pharmaceutical industry said: WHAT? You want to destroy all that perfectly good poppy. Call the PR department and put a spin on this so we can have it!!
The poor Afghan farmers will still not have choice or U.S. army will rape your daughters (after they've been declared terrorist.
umm unless you buy a couple of ounces or are traffiking marijuana(they find scale, many plastic bags etc) you wont and cant go to jail for simple posession. idiot.
It's possible - rather than let Afghan opium end up on the black market, our goverment could buy it. They have the labor and land for it so there wouldn't be any morphine shortage.
Less illict drugs would end up on the black market too.
my moyher has a terminal illness. she takes narcodic painkillers to help her extreame pain. i think its a good idea to help the farmers do things lagit. people who bash painkillers don't understand that all people differ on how they can tollerate pain. some people can break a leg and not need them for a long period of time. other people cant. just like advil helps one guys headache, and tylonol helps someone else. its up to the person to use painkillers responsibly.
Seems you have no idea how much we use poppy derivatives; even in the US, where because of big pharma/insurance lobbying we reward synthetics. Synthetics=CHEMICALS. Do you want your parents or children taking chemicals if it's not needed? Someone has to grow the poppies. Let the Afghanis have a legal venue for their produce. Or, instead, let's go force someone else into the arms of the Taliban; which means teacher. Get over the politics, do what makes sense. GEESH.
She says "If anyone in a village does not produce the right Kg's of Opium toward the licensing project, the entire village would lose the license". What effect do you think that will have on individuals in the village?
Who cares if the farmers become poor? The drugs from poppy have destroyed thousands of lives and families across the world. I think it's time the farmers grew actual food for their own people instead of poison.
Thats right let the US contracters and government take control over drugs in not only the US but all around the world. ... does this mean that the US government is the biggest drug dealers in the world .. with their own milliary and a nation under its belt.... Wow
The world's narcotic (opioid) supply is limited by an international convention dating from early last century - there are vested interests against this sensible scheme as the profit rate from legal morphine would tend to fall - drug companies must be looking forward to exploiting the sufferings of the aging baby boom .
Brilliant plan. How long will it take the Bush Admin. to destroy it? This is something that is a positive step toward helping Afghanistan move forward. And because of that, I wonder if it will be able to proceed without resistance from the U.S. government...
It was mentioned that one of the Afghan officials in charge of Opium eforcement had been arrested for Drug traficking, how ridiculous can it get? Is the CIA getting a cut(Air America) or did organized crime push for the invasion of Afghanistan after Taliban had banned opium in 2000 or what???(look up the Opium Wars in China the British government went to war to allow drug traficking East India Company to deal drugs)
Its a great idea and third world countries probably have shortages of morphine in hospitals, I just hope their research included a detailed analysis of the various networks and interests that currently benefits from Opium Trade.
The Northern Alliance (of ruthless drug lords) will be able to get away with anything as long as they agree to protect the proposed pipeline route. The Taliban were our mostness bestness friends until negotiations broke down over how much they were going to be paid for protecting it.
Good I say let them Grow Poppies And America Has to Make sure it's Good Then we will buy it From The Farmers.. Also we will Protect the Farmers who Grow it. no he didn't watch it, people with closed minds never see or hear anything that goes against their brainwashed mindset, they are too scared that they might learn something.

People here is a NEWS for u.
President Karzai's brother is the biggest DRUG LORD in Kandahar and probably the 2nd or 3rd in the Country.
it is said the farmers get $300 US per kilo of Opium.. WRONGGGGGGG.. they get way way less.
The Afghan Opium is already bought by the PHARMACEUTICAL INDUSTRIES for way way cheaper price than if they would legalize it.
I've family back in Kandahar & they r sick of this bullshit and wants nothing but to live without the fear of loosing their kids to bombs.
k4ndarai 3 years ago 2
the U.S. government has absolutely no right to destroy their crops it's not their fucking country pretty soon the Afgans will start leaving I.E.D.s in their fields and I'll be glad to read about it
024reredrum 3 years ago 5
@024reredrum I agree, and I'm American. Destroying these poor farmers poppies away is like stealing food from them, because w/out the opium they will have no way to sustain themselves economically.
purpledrohaze777 1 year ago
@024reredrum um, ya they kinda do have a right you fucking idiot. where do you think afghan sells the drugs to? america. if you want to kill the problem, you cut off the head. i'm sure that asking afghan to get another customer won't work, so this is the alternative.
aeropostalbaby1 1 year ago 13
@aeropostalbaby1 your an idiot America does not rule the world, and should never have that power they already rule us enough, they might as well shove a leash up everybody's ass. Those are their crops not ours and anybody should have the right to grow a plant and do what ever they wish with it. These laws are ridiculous and uncalled for. Nobody deserves to lose their freedom over bullshit they say you can't do, many people can use things very responsibly and everyone else shouldn't be punished
capone6080 1 year ago
Do more research than just watch a video- this isn't feasible for many reasons. Where is this market for legal opium? Other nations currently grow legal opium and it is barely profitable. What makes you think that flooding the legal market, and increasing global supply, far exceeding demand will magically disovle the illegal one, which pays farmers much more than a legal one ever could. This is another ad hoc soultion that doesn't partake in the real world doesn't understand the core of the prob

That is a exelent idea!!! This will solve many problems. FUCK THE U.S. DURG POLICY!!!
laetrille 3 years ago 18
Fuck the religious nuts that force those drug polices! All they are interested in is meddling in other people's business. With all their superstitions and mysticism and voodoo politics, they will never let this take place. Making medicine out of poppies is logical, reasonable and rational, the complete opposite of religion.
ReligionIsSophistry 2 years ago 2
Right on brother, they in government are fucking hippocrites, they store 2.3 million worth of morphine at Fort Knox so that shows how important opioids are.
laetrille 2 years ago 4
indeed sir, these people that want to "legalize" it or give permits, to simply gain a profit from the farmers. as for the farmers in the midlle east... they are screwed sad to say. either the U.S or the taliban will have them by the balls. as for poppies... they are great! gotta love ebay! (here in the U.S) floural and baking purposes only right? HAHHAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!! persian whites are by far my favorite, but also the tazi's for large output.
thegrandmoosie 2 years ago
Actually, Ebay is coming under fire for allowing vendors to sell decorative pods and what you said will not be the case very much longer.
Sadly, thegrandmoosie, it does not help at all that people like you openly advertise online the illegal use of such pods.
Keep that stuff to yourself, because the DEA has issued a warning to Ebay... they are aware and more and more people continue to talk so casually about it and give them more ammunition on the Web.
bobshenix 2 years ago
@laetrille i agree and i disagree. It would be productive to use it to create pharmicuticals, but it is not our place to tell these people what they can do with their opium. for thousands of years people have been growing opium. If the Afghan government wants to stop it then they need to do it themselves.

So the corporate drug dealers AMA. Pharmaceutical industry said: WHAT? You want to destroy all that perfectly good poppy. Call the PR department and put a spin on this so we can have it!!
The poor Afghan farmers will still not have choice or U.S. army will rape your daughters (after they've been declared terrorist.

umm unless you buy a couple of ounces or are traffiking marijuana(they find scale, many plastic bags etc) you wont and cant go to jail for simple posession. idiot.

unless you're black
mryellow123 3 years ago 2
It's possible - rather than let Afghan opium end up on the black market, our goverment could buy it. They have the labor and land for it so there wouldn't be any morphine shortage.
Less illict drugs would end up on the black market too.
Reknaw133 3 years ago
my moyher has a terminal illness. she takes narcodic painkillers to help her extreame pain. i think its a good idea to help the farmers do things lagit. people who bash painkillers don't understand that all people differ on how they can tollerate pain. some people can break a leg and not need them for a long period of time. other people cant. just like advil helps one guys headache, and tylonol helps someone else. its up to the person to use painkillers responsibly.

GEESH.
marytnurse 4 years ago 2
She says "If anyone in a village does not produce the right Kg's of Opium toward the licensing project, the entire village would lose the license". What effect do you think that will have on individuals in the village?
odestiny 4 years ago
Who cares if the farmers become poor? The drugs from poppy have destroyed thousands of lives and families across the world. I think it's time the farmers grew actual food for their own people instead of poison.
JackKovack 4 years ago
The alkaloids from the poppy have also saved many thousands of lives. Also, growing food crops does not pay much in Afghanistan's current economy.

Interesting story. I hope it works.

Thats right let the US contracters and government take control over drugs in not only the US but all around the world. ... does this mean that the US government is the biggest drug dealers in the world .. with their own milliary and a nation under its belt.... Wow
frankscola 4 years ago
The world's narcotic (opioid) supply is limited by an international convention dating from early last century - there are vested interests against this sensible scheme as the profit rate from legal morphine would tend to fall - drug companies must be looking forward to exploiting the sufferings of the aging baby boom .

Brilliant plan. How long will it take the Bush Admin. to destroy it? This is something that is a positive step toward helping Afghanistan move forward. And because of that, I wonder if it will be able to proceed without resistance from the U.S. government...

Where is all that opium going to?
Who are the various players envolved?
It was mentioned that one of the Afghan officials in charge of Opium eforcement had been arrested for Drug traficking, how ridiculous can it get? Is the CIA getting a cut(Air America) or did organized crime push for the invasion of Afghanistan after Taliban had banned opium in 2000 or what???(look up the Opium Wars in China the British government went to war to allow drug traficking East India Company to deal drugs)

If we are occupying Afghanistan, how they hell are these villagers getting these poppies out of the country?
It isn't leaving without US help.

Its a great idea and third world countries probably have shortages of morphine in hospitals, I just hope their research included a detailed analysis of the various networks and interests that currently benefits from Opium Trade.
Rickdeckard2020 4 years ago
The Northern Alliance (of ruthless drug lords) will be able to get away with anything as long as they agree to protect the proposed pipeline route. The Taliban were our mostness bestness friends until negotiations broke down over how much they were going to be paid for protecting it.
