  • Yo got to love julia!

  • i loved this woman.she is truly a legend.

  • what a mockery, she's a legend

  • Class act!

  • Legendary woman

  • I don't mind a bit of raw beef here and there. I don't mind the taste and raw meat (just on the very odd occasion) can be good for you. David... You're a wimp!

  • Omfg, she made Dave an E. coli cheese burger.

  • I hate how Food Network doesn't promote her much. They do realize their whole existence came from Julia right..? :)

  • Wait a second: this woman was joking, right?

  • I love Dave, but he was a prick in this video. Who would spit out a Julia Child dish? Hell, if she had offered it to me on the sole of her shoe, I would have gratefully eaten it. This was JULIA F'ing Child!

  • EAT THE BEEF DAVE! STOP BEING SUCH A WIMP!

  • she is wonderful. That it was i call HUMOUR! I think he learned a lot from her.. look at him now...

  • LOL. no but seriously, couldn't they have died eating raw hamburger meat???

  • @warmestglow you have to know what your doing with regards to any raw meat, including a hygenic kitchen etc.

when its done properly theres nothing wrong iwth it and it wont kill you.. best solution is - reading reading reading.

expand your palat and " bon appetit"

  • GreAT JOB jULIA,,

  • I love that I can't tell if she's serious about the final product or not. Love that she upstages Letterman.

  • Beef tartare au gratin! I'm impressed!

  • She is just brilliant. We miss you, Julia.

  • She upstages David Letterman with her quick wit. She is so funny.

  • ♥ Julia ♥

  • HiLARious!!!!!

  • They don't make 'em like Julia anymore.....

  • the queen; in her original show in the 50's and 60's the blow torches were huge; it is funny to watch her with it.

  • God bless her :)

  • I love Julia Child

  • She's awesome.

  • kathy, you're a babe. a row bow babe! thanks!

  • This was a great episode of the Letterman show. I have tears on my face from laughing.

  • It looks like she was actually acting at all times, whereas who needs Meryl Streep in her part? She should have been doing actings while cooking for an entire movie.

  • @nyelkenci Well you gotta remember Julia Child is unfortunately dead.

  • It looks like she was actually acting at all times, whereas who needs Meryl Streep in her part? She should have been doing actings while cooking for an entire movie.

  • I'm coming to You Tube soon! Sub now!

  • -"Wh-what is that?"

    -"It's a blow torch."

So interesting hearing Julia Child say blow torch. Haha!

  • lol She was so funny!

  • And THAT'S how you do it, folks! What a pro!

  • Julia is boss!

  • dave needs to quit talkin SHIT on julias food

  • I am a nobody. But when I called that number during the 70's and 80's for cooking help, I got Julia Child on the phone or her husband Paul, who called out "Julia, some needs help with cooking".

  • Sans ALL the cruel and nasty comments about this video, and all Julia Child videos on YouTube, I beg leave. Her ORIGINAL kitchen in Cambridge, Massachusetts of over 45 years now resides at the the Smithsonian Instituite.I lived in Downtown Boston for almost 30 years. Paul & Julia Child were listed in the Boston /Cambridge exchange phone book at 103 Irving Street .

  • I actually knew of an old operatic tenor many years ago who loved eating raw hamburger with onions for lunch. He swore that it helped his voice. Of course, you didn't want to stand within breathing distance from him afterward -- LOL!

  • oh yeah, that's right, Dave's old now. .. ;-)

  • @sugarobyn Yes, she was 6' 2". Her sister was actually taller believe it or not, at 6'4".

  • Lol ! She was so awesome. I saw the skit on snl too funny . I use to watch her on tv as a kid and didn't think anything of it now that I'm older I know she was so great.

  • shes funny....

  • he seems like such a douche

  • @MegaLuke01 You are either an imbecile or doing "schtick" I would guess you're probably a little of both.

  • Damn, I love Julia Child! "Beef tartare au gratin"--fabulous! He is giving her way too much shit, especially since HIS hot plate didn't work and she had less than five minutes to pinch-hit on national television. Can you imagine any of those Food Network goons trying to handle this? Nobody does it better than Julia.

  • @1214gaia yeah, it was a bad habit of Letterman's back in the day of not knowing when to butt out---but Julia graciously rolled with it........she certainly seemed to be enjoying herself and was aware of the laughs she was getting!!......

  • Damn, she is genius. Most would have just laughed and gone to the chairs

  • david keep your hands off the cooking for crying out loud

  • They're hilarious together =D

  • I love Letterman...and so does Julia!

  • The 5 people who dislike this video are idiots who wouldn't know a good hamburger if it bit them on the ass.

  • What pricks disliked this video?? Julia is a legend in the U.S. She deserves the respect of every patriot of the country. Without her, Food Network wouldn't exist.

  • ...and he didnt think he would eat raw beef from Bruce Willis´ head in the future

  • 1:37 Hahahaha. My mom does the same thing to my dad....

  • I hate that she is trying so hard and he keeps making fun of it, I'd eat it

  • It can only be the 70s, no-one had ever heard of pitta bread in America then :O) She's lovely.

  • Dave sucks

  • @poondoonproductions on....your mama he does!!!

  • I <3 her.

  • There used to be a video of Julia and Dave drinking rum or cognac or sherry or something together, straight from the bottle, during one of her cooking segments. It was hilarious. I remember seeing it first-run some time in the early 90s, I believe.

  • oh my god, she pinned him at the end " oh well, next time please bring something that works

  • She is AWESOME , Real and very funny !!

  • This is TV GOLD!!! Julia was hillarious!

  • Good morning you all, now I am hungry~ looked good!

  • Thanks, Kathy, for posting this. It is hilarious!!

  • She's a freakin genius. Best cook EVER

  • sophomoric then and now... goofy howdy doody looking jerk...

  • @irish89055 Let me guess...Jay Leno is high-brow?

  • @mjbab73 no mjbab, I was a Nightline viewer before it became a platform for the PR industry, hmmm like most other shows now that i think of it.. I just had Leno on, but he has gotten so lame, think I will head over to Charlie Rose show... high brow enough?? 11:43pm

  • There's a reason her kitchen is in the Smithsonian: it's not only because she was sweet and a good cook, it's because she had such a great sense of humor to make fun of herself; this clip just proves it. Even David Letterman was on his best behavior for her. She's not an American icon for no reason.

  • wow first time I've seen Dave with a full head of hair and without glasses

  • "I give it to my husband" haha lol

  • Wow, Dave was actually funny then.

  • @iOnlySignIn

Dave was actually *amused* back then. This vid shows how clearly jaded he's become in the past 20 years.

  • @MyLatestEscape yeah, now he's a grumpy, old, far left leaning codger. put him out to pasture and be done with it already

  • @ultrakool it seems like judging from your comment anything is far left. are you by chance a Neo Nazi or a tea bagger or a Michelle Bachmann Supporter?

    HONK! HONK!

You freaks need to be kicked out of America the same way you were kicked out of Europe, by the way spending 3.7 trillion US tax payers dollars on illegal unfounded war is more "socialist" than spendingAmerican tax dollars on Americans in the name of HEALTH CARE, idiot

  • @poosaypirate don't try and dazzle me with bullshit...stick to the facts. your line of reasoning is obfuscated. just what is your point exactly, btw??

  • @ultrakool- o k. so basically all you have just done is stand on the top of the table rip off your shirt and scream:

" I HAVE NOTHING TO SAY!!!!!!!!!!!"

  • Julia Child Cooks For David Letterman! Well almost cooks! Funny !

  • LetterMan is still alive he's like 67

  • @27CMiller 63 Miller.

  • just saw the movie,Julia and Julie

  • Her voice... haha

  • beef tartare is delish. If you like rare beef, it's that x4 in flavor.

  • ha! mooo! ! so cool:) she seems like such a saint!

  • I can't believe they're eating raw ground beef. Beef tar tar my ass! It won't be so 'chic' when you're dehydrated from e-coli.

  • @SUPERDOOPERTUBER

Julia Child used to eat raw beef and rinse her poultry in hot water. She also lived into her 90's.

  • She's wonderful! Meryl Streep's portrayal of Child is so close to the real Child. Every time I watch that movie I get a big grin on my face. I love her personality so much! It's nice to finally see a video of Child herself in action. My name is Julia as well and I am nothing like her! :D

  • Oh my god! She's as tall as he is! Awesome!

  • America couldn;t cook until this ladsy taught them.

  • you have to be great at improv to be a spy for the OSS

  • she's a charming lady but she sounds like kermit the frog's aunt lol

  • this is so charming! there can never be another julia child!

  • This bit was so funny- she had a way to make good out of a hopeless situation.

  • God I miss her!!! You'd never catch Martha Stewart, the Queen of Anal, doing anything like this!

  • LOL!!!!!! shes sooo funny

  • She is absolutely CHARMING! I love this clip!

  • Fantastic! Thanks for posting. "Well, I like you anyway"

  • This shows why she's one of those special people everyone seems to love. We can make fun of her (as SNL did and which she reportedly found hilarious), but she's so sweet and has such a great sense of humor that we can't not like her.

  • She's just absolutely lovely!

  • she's really tall!

  • Damn she's good at improvising!

  • She is completely adorable!

  • David Letterman was young once?!?!?!?!

  • @Davrodeo She must have been pretty tall.

  • @sugarobyn 6'2"

  • @Davrodeo no no don't be ridiculous, they're merely using cgi graphics to make him appear younger.

  • @Davrodeo and he used to be funny as well, apparently.

  • She truly was a wonderful lady.

  • she is great!

  • That was hilarious...

  • This is so funny! Julia Child rocks! Thanks for posting :)

  • everybody knows she died in 2004 ...right ?

  • She is from my hometown of Pasadena, Ca. Yeh!!!

  • Oh, so cute! Wow!

  • wow david letterman is so young here!

  • Does anyone know what year this is? Its got to be the early 80's, maybe late 70's?

  • @SMyD77777 As I mentioned in the video description, it's from 1987

  • @SMyD77777 You stupid imbecile, Letterman did not have his show in the 70's

  • @SMyD77777 Late Seventies! LOL.... Depeche Mode had Music for the Masses the year this came out, you are suggesting Bee Gees!

  • @SMyD77777 "The Letterrman Show" was "80-82"

"Late Night with David Letterman" was "82-93"

  • lol

  • David: "Julia have you ever cooked anything that just tasted awful?"

Julia: "oh yes lots of times."

David: "So what do you do with it then?"

Julia: "oh I give it to my husband" I love this woman!!!

  • it's Howdy Doody time...

  • It's Howdy Doody time... Julia is much funnier..

  • Hi domdoot, I just literally got done watching Julie & Julia on netflix. Darn, I wanted the real girl to be a nice girl in real life. No matter, NOW I am into JuliA again!! I read where Julia was offended by julie's blog. Have not read it. But, gosh, LOVED the movie! Good ole Nora Ehpron, I guess lol! Oh, and of course Amy Adams. And dang Meryl is a Goddess! :-)

  • Soooo hilarious!

  • Saw the movie and it was fabulous, no doubt due to Meryl Streep and Stanley Tucci. The greatest. The girl that played Julie, Amy Adams was great as well. Meryl truly, truly deserved the Oscar this year. God bless that woman, she can do any movie role and make gold. She is the Godess of films. Meryl, hands down you get my vote!!!

  • Julia Child brings back wonderful memories growing up. My mom and I loved watching her on Saturday afternoon. She was such a slop in the kitchen you couldn't help but laugh and love her

  • It'sa pitty that Child didn't have a good word for Julie Powel....

  • i know, if i were her i would be very disappointed because i did not know about julia until i saw the movie and the movie happened beczu of julie. so in a way julie made julia famous again. but julia is gone so may be she dosent care . ha!

  • julia rocks

  • Meryl streep si que la imita super bien

  • Moooooo! nothing more can be said

  • She was certainly a great entertainer but nothing that I have seen of her cooking could be called 'French cooking'. I think, perhaps, she was fortunate in coming at the beginning of her country's interest in foreign cuisine, when nobody might have challenged her rather strange concoctions. But a sweet, charming person she certainly appears to be!

  • This is a wonderful clip

  • Great clip!

  • this made me laugh! i loved when julia pulled out the blowtorch!

  • God, I love that woman!

In tribute to Julia's signature sign-off:

    Bon Appétit!

  • So glad I got to see that before it gets pulled. Thx!

  • Enjoy this video while you can......I just received a 2nd 'copyright' warning from youtube :( (and deleted the offending video)

As long as the Letterman clips are acceptable, I should be ok......

  • @KathysFlopsweat god this was funny, thank you for uploading this. I just downloaded it so I'll have it in case I want to see it again.

  • @KathysFlopsweat Just change the name of the video, and the tags

  • In 1967 I went to the Montreal Expo, where one restaurant's menu offered "Steak Tartare," which it described as including spices, egg, and raw beef. Apparently many of the patrons either could not read or didn't believe what they read, because in addition to this printed description, each menu also included a hand written note, "It's really raw"!

  • haha that was so good! she's funny.

  • True story, when I was a kid I used to eat raw ground beef.

  • Julia Child was amazing! She is on of the reasons why I love to cook so much.... I wanted to be a Police Officer until seeing the movie Julie and Julia! May I be as great as she was! Julia Rest In Peace... You will be forever missed.

  • I'm a chef, that woman was an exceptionnal boost to the culinary establishment. But this ain't beef tartare.

  • dave seemed on his best behavior...usually only reserved for those he truly holds in high regard.

  • Julia Childs was Great RIP, Love to Nana Tony

  • I see that he referenced the SNL "cut thumb" parody a decade later.

  • She was great, and Dave has always been a GoofBall!LOL!

  • i love how she can hold her own with Dave!

  • XD SHE PUT BUTTER ON THAT DAMN THING XD lOL XD LOVE her so XD

  • she give inspiration to other people :)

  • What a classy lady. She was a great person.

  • did she ever appear on GMA? Maybe then a cooked meal would come out

  • She did segments for GMA regularly back in the late 80's.

  • julia child is proof that you can subsist on a diet of only butter.

  • lol!

  • She's having a ball!

  • Such a class act. She was awesome!!!

  • Absolutely classic!

  • I just adore Julia. She loved what she did and had such enthusiasm and feeling it was a pleasure to watch her. And yeah, she could give it back to Dave just as he gave it!

Rest in peace, Julia! We miss you!

  • Julia so rocked.

  • letterman was trying too hard. Poor Julia
