It's said that Gable didn't wanted George Cukor (who was openly homosexual) as director for the film (for he was suppossed to know Gable's past). It's curious Gable's face while this costume testing...
No one could ever come close to playing Scarlett and Vivien did. It makes me angry that they could consider anybody else. Did anyone else notice they spelled her name wrong on the cards?
This is beautiful. I hope you can find also the scenes edited out from GWTW particularly the scene before the end credits. There were close ups. I know they're just lying around somewere, waiting to be found.
I don't know about you, but Vivien really did perfectionate that snobbing raised eye brow look. At 58 she looks just creepy, but still pretty. Wouldn't ever want to met Scarlett in one of her p*ssed of moods.
Will someone please send me the information regarding the music for this video? Who is this piece done by and is it on a cd??? This music is as awesome as the music in the movie Gone With The Wind itself. I am posting this to my facebook page just because the music is slamming! Please someone help me find out who it is by and the cd it is on...it will be my next cd purchase once I get that information, and ahead of time I thank YOU the individual that brings about this resolution for me!!!!
This is fantastic! I've only seen bits of these but not all. Vivien is truly the fairest of them all. I have never seen a face more beautiful...more fluid...with such repose and grace, yet fire. God's perfection.
Vivien Leigh was really Perfect for the role Scarlett O'Hara because it adds so much empathy in her Personality and I noticed that she doesn't give so much Effort but she really great and she gave her very best... And she wouldn't get an Oscars if she doesn't???
I just read today in a Bio of hers that her name was originally spelled Vivian until it was changed by her agent when she was just getting into acting. So, I guess technically it is misspelled and technically it's not. haha :)
I get such mixed feelings from Leslie and Clark..I know Leslie's "ashley"/"the kind one", but I feel like he had more chemistry with Vivien. And Clark and Vivien had this very "professional" feeling between them. And all those stories about Vivien not wanting to kiss him kinda ruins the moment.
However, I loved the crescendo of the music when it showed Clark and Vivien testing together. So dark and dynamic!!
@stitchgrl777 i had the same sensation, actually Vivien's first husband looked like him. Clark was good on the movie but they didn't have that chemistry...
Some of this was in the documentary "Making of a Legend". I feel so sad that some of the gorgeous costumes were NOT included in the film..they must have spent half the fortune on making so many costumes..also I suspect many scenes originally intended to be in the movie were cut out...who will ever know what these scenes included...
Yes I know, it makes me mad too, thinking of all the material unused and kept in some lost vault. Heard the Selznick's heirs were against the exploitation of this material. I would have loved a reissue of the movie with all the cutted scenes. Or those costumes and make ups tests in a Bonus for a dvd to come... Please !!!
There are rumors of which, Warner bros, is preparing for the anniversary number 70 of the premiere of the movie, a golden throwing in format BLUE-RAY, with a disc with material NEVER seen. It will be true? PLEASE!!!
If they had known in these very moments of casting what their film would become. Again one can see in the casting what a genius Selznick was. Everything fits. Thank you for this fine movie, as always!
Yes I suppose Selznick drowned the whole staff of the screen tests with piles and piles of Memoes !!! It's interesting to see that George Cukor directed himself most of the screen tests... I thought that kind of stuff was let to some assistant ...
Yes I think that's the point, nothing was taken in the hands of fate, everything was well calculated even though there was lots of chaos. But the interesting thing to me is the discharge of cukor, I think Selznick has done the absolutely right thing. But more astonishing to me is that Cukor after watching the final movie agreed to that. Obviously cukor realized and could accept good work!

@Kenandave
This music is from the ballet "Spartacus" by A. Katchaturian, a russian composer.
This part is a "duo", when Spartacus is dancing with his girl.
Is an Adagio and you can find a lot of versions here on YouTube, in ballet (with dancers) or just the orquestal part :)
If you want to buy a CD you can look just like that: "Spartaco" A. Katchaturian played by an orchestra.

I think Vivien didn't really want to kiss Rhett. (see their kissing scenes, and Vivien's responses... :p)
Leslie Howard's adorable. I didn't notice it immediately when I first saw him as Ashley Wilkes.
