All in all, I sure like the song that goes with this. And it sure fits all this, because for some reason, the song also sounds like something about the government.

Well, I mean the government-government (NSA), according to what other people thought the song was about. Course, I hear this song is about jealousy.

I agree, it's uncanny how some parts of the song are quite fitting of the NSA.

From the viewpoint of a person in love, though, it sounds like the song is about a guy that yearns for the girl, and he's sad without her.

I had always thought the song was about what it meant to be someone's guardian angel (figurativly), until I heard on the radio that they explained it was about jealousy. What do you think?

Yes, it also makes sense when seen from that perspective. However, the meaning of the words isn't confined to just that one emotion; the song can have a more ample meaning because the lyrics also make sense when applied to other situations that don't involve jealousy, like the one you mentioned (a guardian).
